Nonsense. You have the same thing in Linux, plus HP dv7 doesn't have this problem in Windows.

So, basically, you've got: We don't know what it is and didn't bother to investigate. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding! :D

No surprise here, this is the second response from ASUS re: my memory slot question, as you can see she has no idea in hell what she is talking about nor what is the location of the memory slot or how to get at them!!

    """"

    Dear valued customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

    Sorry for the late reply.

There are 2 different colour for 4 memory slots. Each colour for each channel. Please distinguish whether the 2 slot are for one channel according to the colour of slot.
If you would like to use dual channel, we suggest to use same memory for each channel (same brand, same model, same memory chip) for best stability and compatibility.
Besides, due to this the laptop support 4 memory slots, 2 slots at the bottom side, another 2 slot at the top side and behind the keyboard.
You must remove the keyboard, if you would like to change it. It is hard for end users, so we suggest to take the laptop to service centre to change or add memory."""""

Great product/ but customer service is beyond lacking!!!

I just got my N53-SN, and i'm assuming that there's a ton of bloatware to get rid of. Which ones are they, and how do I uninstall them? Right now, when i start up the comp, there's windows live essentials, asus live update, intel turboboost, etc. And here's my list of installed programs:

    http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/6620/installedprograms.png

Also I live in Canada, and the keyboard seems to be messed up. I'm using the US settings, because the sorbian standard switches the y and z keys and the Canadian Multilingual standard gives me "è" instead of an apostrophe. Should I just stick to the US version?

Has anyone noticed this: Chrome kills two finger touchpad scrolling in Windows Explorer.

When I install Chrome and run it after a while I can no longer scroll IN WINDOWS EXPLORER using two fingers on the touch pad. Scrolling works just fine in Chrome however.....

When I shut down Chrome the problem goes away and scrolling works again. I had a quick search and i t seems this has come up before but was reported fixed at some stage. BTW, this is a standard Win7 64 bit installation with the Asus DVD/drivers/utilities on top.

I'm a noob. "install some drivers from [insert vague link]" won't help me, lol. At any rate, the computer automatically restarted after i postponed it about 10 times, and ran 28377 updates, and now i have the keypad functions back. don't know what other things happened to my comp with all those updates tho...

i just bought 8GB of ram (2x4gb). Is that all the SN-XV1 can handle, or can I go up to 16gb? The specs say 4 slots of sth, but only max 8gb ram... do people ever buy 4 sticks of 2gb ram??

In Windows Explorer? Keep running chrome for a while and let me know. I spoke to someone just last night and confirmed the problem (two finger scroll dies) but didn't know what was causing it.

It seems that the latest intel vga driver at asus's site is buggy, at least for me.
When I connected the VGA to the tv I got BSOD. Didn't know first what to do, but found out the problem was an intel file. So tried to downgrade driver and no BSOD since.
    Just a heads up...

    p.s
If you wish to know, problem was with file 'igdkmd64.sys'.

I got my N53SN last week. Have been spending time setting it up. Hit a bit of a brick wall with one issue regarding USB 3.0, it just won't work with my USB 3.0 hard drive.

Has anyone managed to get USB 3.0 working on their machines? If so, on the device manager, is the host controller "Fresco Logic"? Also if I click on properties through device manager, when I have something plugged in, the location spits out some weird thing with hashes in it, although I guess it's not an issue as it still works with anything USB 2.0 that I've plugged in and it still says that.

I'm trying to identify if its the laptop or my hard drive that's the issue. So if anyone's gotten their USB 3.0 to work with the same host controller and weird location thing, maybe it's not the laptop.

    FRESCO LOGIC
Installed and working on USB 2 for me.

Thanks, startrooper. I already updated the host controller driver from the official Asus page, and it didn't help. The port reads USB 2.0s absolutely fine, but it won't even let my USB 3.0 drive work as a USB 2.0 let alone in hi speed mode.

Can you stick a USB 2 into your slot and bring up properties through device manager and see what the "location" bit reads?

This driver is much newer and not from Asus's site, give it a try.

    Which "location" are you reffering?

if you hit up device manager, and then the bottom where all the USBs are, right click >> properties, its on the bottom of the pop-up box.

    Did you try the driver?

hmm I think it says: Port_#0002.Hub_#0001
but under Fresco Controller it says: PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 4, device 0, function 0)

ok, it spits out that weird thing as well for me. I'm gonna try that driver when I get home, followed by updating the bios. Then I guess, try and buy/find another usb 3.0 device to see if its the laptop or my hard drive. Surely someone's got a USB 3.0 working on it?

I tried updating bios and updating the host controller driver. Both didn't solve it, hopefully someone with a USB 3 drive can help me verify a few things.

I have linux, so I don't know if that helps:

    lspci | grep USB
00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 05)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 05)
04:00.0 USB Controller: Fresco Logic FL1000G USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 04)

So it is recognized as Fresco. I have SATA HDD(Momentus) in external enclosure with usb 3.0. When I connect it to my 3.0 port speed is max 80MB/s.
