I don't know. But I suggest you to open a support ticket to ASUS. That way, you could have a first-hand answer from ASUS directly, suggest it as a new feature to be implemented if not yet supported, and share it back here :)

    EDIT:
BTW, after Googling, I found something relevant (however I didn't test it, it might or not work):

    Hi.
Does our USB 3.0 works fine?

I need to buy one USB drive and I
Don't know if it's worth to buy one 3.0.

8 GB USB 3 is the same price as 16 GB USB 2.0

hello everyone... im kungfupanda from indonesia...

im thinking of buying asus low-end laptop... either n43sl or ux31...

im in love with the ux31 actually... but, since it's ultraportable laptop...

i'd like to ask... how is the heat generates from it? is the temp high? how about the palmrest? is it warmish/hot?

    i wanna use it for
    firefox multitab browsing
    itunes
    skype
    ms office
    scan with KIS

thats it. no game no nothing. probably at the same time.

is i3 enough to run smoothly on this? or should i get i5...?

    *since i3 is cheaper...*

    2) 2) Im not intending to buy the AMD NVIDIA videocard, i think i'd settle with the VGA intel shared.
Does it create a bottleneck on the i5 performance...?

will it fare differently in everyday use performance between i3-2350m and i5-2430m if i only use vga intel shared...?

also last question, how's n43sl compare to this...? esp. the heat part...

so sorry and many thank yous......

    I didn't consider N43SL as low end laptop. :D

N43SL weigh twice as UX31E, and it's also twice as thick, so if portability is your main concern, go get UX31E.
For everyday usage, there's minimal heat generated, you probably almost can't feel that the fan is spinning at all. When for gaming, etc. there will lots of heat exhausted by the fan, it's normal and it's what the fan supposed to do afterall. The palmrest and almost all of the body is relatively cool, even when used for folding 24/7.

Well, if you not buying nVIDIA, then don't buy N43S*. I don't recall any N43S* variant without discrete GPU. It's either GT540M or GT550M.
Unless you going heavy games, CAD/CAM, etc. Intel graphics probably enough for you. Intel's GPU for N43S* all is same at 650MHz, whether it i7, i5 or i3; and Intel's GPU for UX31E is all 350MHz.

    I didn't have or ever handle U31, so i can't compare it.

Did you touch anything else when you added the RAM? Also, are you sure you inserted the RAM correctly?

Try running Memtest to test the RAM after trying the above. It may be a case of faulty RAM.

i did memtest for 20m and no error
i did aida64 strest test for 15m and its stable

reconfigure power plan in windows setting
    still cant resume from sleep
    hibernate is okay

rollback RAM to original then problem cured
    is it compatibility issue?

Possibly. The bios may not support the JEDEC profiles for 1600mhz RAM.

    Hello.

    Just ended formatting my n43SL.

From all of the asus junk which one do you recommend me for installing?

What do I have to install to make the FN keys work properly?

I have the i7 2630QM processor working at 2 GHz. Wasn't there a way to put it working at 2.6?

    Thanks

For me, I only installed ATK Package, Wireless Console and KB Filter, along with the necessary hardware drivers.

As for the 2630QM, it can turbo boost up to 2.9GHz. You don't need to do anything since it's done automatically.

It enables the shortcuts and some other functions iirc.

As for turbo boost, you could use this. However it only goes to 2.9GHz when you're taxing the system on a single core, if you're doing CPU-intensive work on multiple cores, the maximum the processor will go is 2.5 or 2.6GHz. Otherwise, the processor will throttle to save power.

I don't have pictures, but here's what you'll need to do.

With the front of the laptop facing you (battery on the far side of the laptop), remove the battery. At the lower rigth corner, there are two rubber feet, one long one and a circular one. Remove both feet and unscrew the screws hidden underneath. Pull the cover towards you and it will slide off. Next, unscrew the 4 screws holding the HDD case to the laptop and push the HDD to the right. It should disengage from the SATA slot. You can then use the black piece of plastic to remove the HDD. Unscrew the 4 screws holding the case to the HDD, two on the left side of the HDD and 2 on the right. Now replace the HDD and do everything in reverse. The rubber feet can be put back so long as you don't let it gather too much dust.

According to the video description it's because the computer is overheating or it is not properly grounded. You'll need to repaste the laptop and/or ground the laptop by getting a compatible power cable that is grounded.

Look at the AC power brick that came with your laptop. It should state a input voltage and ampere (mine is 100-240V ~ 2.0A). I'm no physics student, but I don't think you should exceed the input voltage/ampere by too much just to be safe.

    i think so ...

brick info of mine is same as you (100-240 V ~ 2.0A ) , maybe it's risky that using 13A cable instead of orginal cable.

Hi guys, I just have a question about the performance of this laptop. When I have the laptop plugged in without a battery, I can play all my games with no drops in performance. However, using the battery, the performance drops to unplayable even though I set my power plan to High Performance. I've checked my power plan advanced settings, everything is set to max performance, but it just doesn't deliver it. Any ideas? Does the GPU go on a battery mode? I have no idea how to view those settings. Thanks guys.

I think it's because of the bios. There's a noticeable drop in performance if I run my laptop on battery. Bootup takes longer than usual, starting programs takes longer, you get the idea. I haven't found a way to combat that so I guess you'll have to live with it or try to overclock the Nvidia GPU and see if it helps.

    Hey Too

    I have some problems again.

I just looked at my DXDIAG and it doesnt display my 540M and some games run at integrade graphics -.- Don you know how to fix them?

Also I updated the new drives of the Realtek HD Audio, and now I start to get a crackling/wave/interference sound, I checked for solution and they told me to change back to a previous version, in your opinion what should I do, its really annoying after 2 hours of play.

    cheers

If it doesn't display the dedicated GPU it's perfectly normal. As for games running using integrated graphics, right click the game shortcut/executable, select run with graphics processor, select change default graphics processor and change it as you please.

As for audio, I'm having no such problems. If you can't stand it, try the ones from here, else install an old version.

    hi all,

    Just recently got my N43SL i7 2630QM GT540M 4G ram.

I would like to up the RAM to 8G, looking at
Kingston HyperX PnP 8GB kit KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G.
    Or
    Samsung 2x4GB DDR3 Laptop SDRAM (1600MHz PC3-12800) Kit MV-3T4G3D

    some question on these ram.
1)can the kingston with the heat sink fit in the N43?
2)can N43 bios read the PnP and run it in 1866mhz?
3)can N43 bios read the Samsung and run it in 1600mhz?
(cant determine if the Samsung is PNP however review by MAC user claim their sandy bridge i5-7 can read n run @1600 no issue)

I would prefer the samsung as it is running on 1.36V and the form factor is 2/3 of the kingston.....

any advise please or alternative ram option?

The i7-2630QM supports RAM of maximum 1333MHz frequency. Any RAM of higher frequencies will be downclocked. I would not get performance RAM since it's a waste of money. All you would get is lower latencies which is pretty insignificant.

    hi too456,

    may i clarify
    for the nvidia driver

    290.10 is dated 13/03
    290.17 is dated 7/03

so latetest is 290.10 and not 290.17 right?

sorry want to confirm before i update...

    also when i run CPU-z,
my ram is running @ 665.3 MHZ and not 666.5mhz like other 1333 ram (in max performace setting)
is this a concern ? faulty ram ?

You cannot overclock the CPU. You can overclock the GPU through Nvidia System Tools or MSI AFterburner.

296.17 is the later version but it only updates the display driver. 296.10 is the full package and updates everything to 296.10, then you can install 296.17 to update the display driver to a even later version. Generally the later the version number, the newer the driver.

As for RAM, it's perfectly normal. It reads the RAM at DDR2 speeds rather than DDR3 speeds, so when you read 665MHz in CPU-Z, multiply that number by 2 to get your DDR3 speeds.

I remember it was posted some time back, but here it is again:

    1. Remove the battery or any other power source
    2. On the underside of the laptop with the front of it facing you, there are two rubber feet attached on the hard drive cover. Peel them off using a spudger and remove the screws underneath.
    3. Unscrew the HDD (4 screws iirc), remove the HDD.
    4. Remove the casing from the HDD (another 4 screws I think).

Done! Now just do everything in reverse to get everything back together.

Hi N43SL user here I just want to ask if the wifi icon under the touchpad beside the hdd icon isn't blinking or doesnt have lights? I'm connected to a wifi but it doesn't blink or have lights? Only the bulb thingy, battery and hdd have lights. I installed drivers from the CD that comes to the laptop but I didn't install other bloatware software and already check on the device manager and see if I missed anything or did I missed anything? Also the gpu indictaor on the upper of esc button doesn't have also lights. Thanks in advance.

For my computer the GPU light never turns on. For the wifi light I think you need to have Wireless Console installed. I have upgraded my wifi card yet it still works, so it should work for yours too.

Anybody know how to reflash a standard bios?

I managed to flash a bios but now the laptop will not POST (no screen, lights on for 1-2 seconds)

Howdy folks! I wonder if it's possible to upgrade N43SN with say GTX 560m or better? And does it support IB CPU's as well?

The GTX 560M is a MXM Type 3.0-B card, the ASUS N43 doesn't have the necessary power/cooling and an MXM slot.

The GT 540M/GT 630M is soldered directly onto the motherboard.

As of the IVB CPU's, I'm not sure that the HM65 chipset will support it (the socket is the same though)

Maybe someone else can shed some info on this.

A bios update is needed. Whether Asus will provide it is another matter entirely.

Hey, I am going to buy an OCZ Agility 3 Series SSD of 120Gb to install on my notebook.
Does it achieve Sata 3 speeds? I saw that the HM65 motherboard is supposed to accept SATA 3.
What's the size of the HDD slot in the notebook? If I buy a 2,5'' SSD will it fit perfectly in the slot or will it be too small?

    I wish :(

    A 3610QM would be a nice upgrade from a 2450M

Ok I've had overheating and Hardware Interrupts (which in turn causes overheat issues from 20-30% usage alone) so no game seems to be playable unless I use IGP. And this applies to both old and new games, so what's the catch? I've tried ME/2, D3 and Dolphin emulator, and while everything runs smooth the CPU will just overheat spiking 95c...

I had to uninstall realtek drivers since it gave me audio stuttering that also made the game lag for no apparent reason and removing battery seems to have solved the Hardware Interrupts and DCP issues. So my question is... is my CPU not powerful enough? Should I get the 2670qm? Will it solve the problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

I always use High Performance when playing games and I've tried Balanced as well. Everything is up to date (drivers/win7).
