What's the stop code? Any error logs?
Also, what version is your Nvidia driver?

I had a dump file, but it seems to have been lost, does windows delete these files?

My Nvidia driver is 8.17.12.8026, from August it seems.

The dump file should be stored in C:\Windows\Minidump. If you have enabled memory dump, search for .dmp files in your hard drive.

As for the driver, try updating to the latest 285.62 Verde driver by Nvidia. You might also want to update the Intel driver. Both can be found in the first post.

Hehe I know there are "fantastic temps" but one month ago temps were 8ºup.

Maybe is the winter or last BIOS update. I will know when spring arrives again :D

I found it there the first time, but it seems to hav been deleted now. Anyway, I'll try to install the latest drivers.

The Intel link is dead btw, and it seems like they've released a new version this month. :)

I recently purchased an N43SL, the Jay Chou special edition (altho' I didn't mean to order that specific model, that's what I got from Amazon.) I wonder if there's a way to eliminate the special splash thing that comes up when you start the computer or wake it from hibernation. Just a time waster as far as I'm concerned.

The Intel link has been removed, so for now the link won't work. I'll upload it asap from my collection, give me a few hours to do so since my upload speed sucks :)

EDIT: My connection was faster than expected :p so here's the link for v8.15.10.2559 of the Intel HD Graphics drivers. The link on the first post has also been updated with this temporary link.

Experienced another unexpected bluescreen just now:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1044

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: a
    BCP1: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFDB
    BCP2: 0000000000000002
    BCP3: 0000000000000000
    BCP4: FFFFF80002ECDF4B
    OS Version: 6_1_7601
    Service Pack: 1_0
    Product: 768_1

I have attached the dump file in a .zip to this post.

It happened when I was trying to open a mail in hotmail (firefox), the only other program running was iTunes, first I heard a lag in the sound (rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr like sound) and then the screen went black, then bluescreen.

I managed to open the dmp file, the BSOD said this:
    problem caused by: ntoskrnl.exe
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    STOP: 0x0000000a (0xffffffffffffffdb, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000,
    0xfffff80002ecdf4b)

If it's not a hardware problem I'm thinking of maybe doing a Windows partition recovery with my backup through Macrimum Reflect, these issues started after I updated drivers (earlier post).

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is one of the most useless error codes ever because it means that something is conflicting with the IRQ addresses and that itself can be caused by plenty of things, or that some driver is malfunctioning or some such stuff. Either way, try testing memory, verifying the drivers are installed correctly etc etc. Also, if there have been any hardware changes in recent times then reverse the changes and see if that does anything.

Ok, thanks, I'll try to run a memory test now and see what happens. The only thing I've changed recently is the drivers (updated: GPUs, WLan, touchpad, AHCI, Realtek Audio). The problems with bluescreens appeared after this. I'll try and reinstall those four latest). No hardware changes.

Hi everyone. The latest version of Intel HD Graphics driver has been updated to v8.15.10.2598. However, installation is not as straightforward as the previous drivers because Intel seems to have purposely excluded our GPUs in this driver, so it will not install on our systems. However, I have found a way to force it to install. Instructions are as follows:

    1. Download this .inf file here and save it somewhere.
    2. Download the latest driver from here, extract it somewhere.
    3. Copy the .inf file you downloaded in Step 1 to %extracted folder%/Graphics, overwriting the one already there.
    4. Run the setup, when it asks you if you want to install unverified driver software, click yes/allow.
    5. Done.

I would call this a stopgap measure if you really want the latest version on your computer. If possible, update to the latest, supported version once it is released. Everything is working and stable with this driver so I think there shouldn't be any problems with this small modification. If you're risk-averse, don't try this. Else, do a backup/restore point before proceeding just to be absolutely sure.

Thanks for the info. I noticed WinUpdate offered the newest driver, which I thought I had installed, but when I checked the system info I noticed it hadn't and didn't bother telling me. I'll go for the previous version.

    Hello Too456

If possible I would like your help to solve some issues with my Asus N43SL.

I bought my Asus couple of months ago, in precise was on August, I have changed between a MAC bookpro simple fact because I couldn't do more with it on 3DSMAX.

Due to my lack of experience with PC since 5 years using a MAC I came in with a problem on my ASUS N43SL which i never had in the beginning.

    So the problems are these:
    - I can't use UDK on Nvidia Graphic cards, don't know why but it just works if i use Integrated Graphics, which is very strange. Shouldn't be a Graphic Card problem because I can play Skyrim in Medium with a good frame rate. Although it might be a Software problem but maybe it isn't.

    - When I use 3DSMAX about 20 min using it the frame rate drops and the laptop can't handle it. It is not only with 3DSMAX but also Photoshop, Premiere and some games like Terraria, Minecraft and now even Skyrim does that. Don't know what is the cause of it. But I know that the CPU using CPUID Monitor shows that my Temps are all 90+ Celcius. Which concerns me.

    - Another thing that happens often is that that Windows just freezes leaving an ZZZRRRRRRRR and then starts working again normally. Happens when I watch on Youtube or when I'm editing any video for exemple.

    - I use ASUS as a station, so I have a HDMI cable connected to a external monitor which then I turn off the Laptop one, also a keyboard a mouse. I don't know if the problems comes most from being and external Monitor, but even without it, I have the issues as well.

I apolagize for my 1st post and for being large, but I just want to know what is happening with my laptop so I could fix is and be happy again. Cause I'm almost unable to WORK or to PLAY games at all....

    Cheers

Try installing the latest Nvidia and Intel drivers, as well as all available Windows updates. Also, for overheating you might have to repaste the computer, if not at least raise the back of the laptop so that there is a few cm of space between the table and the laptop so that there is sufficient ventilation to cool the laptop.

    Hi

Thank you for the quick reply.

I have updated all the drivers, and windows is fully updated.
Windows 7 Home Premium... but well. xD

Anyway I donnu how to repaste, so I just added a thick book at the bottom of the laptop making that the ventilation a bit higher than the table, as well open wide.

    Cheers
If i still get the problems I will post here, soon. :D

    hi!

i've been using the N43SL i3 (yes the low one) for approx 4.5 mths now, now complaint what so ever for daily use, though i think i need more RAM, so, any good recommendations on one?

    btw,

my laptop have this weird 'perk' that annoys me to no end, i like to play games in it but sometimes the game took a steep performance hit (no, the laptop didnt switch to the intel graphic)

    im sorry if i sound confusing, here's an example;

i have COD MW3 installed on here, on first playthrough (1 hour or so) the fps is smooth enough on native res and a bit of AA going on..

the the next day, i played it and suddenly the game stutters and become choppy, so, any idea? (the problem did not appear on older games, i tested playing unreal 2004 and CnC generals, both runs smoothly, even for many hours)

btw my OS is win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, thank you..

I don't know, never bothered installing express gate. Useless IMO. The easier way would be to simply dual boot Chrome OS and Windows.

Well, but if we have a dedicated buttom why don't use it....to load a real Linux or Mac-Os. So the question still valid. This is the magic of the forums, we can ask and get creative solutions.

Is there any way to use this dedicated buttom to load Xp, Linux or Mac-Os?

I don't get it... why not just use the main power button and be presented with multiple options as to what OS you want to boot into? It would be far easier than modifying ExpressGate, which from my own preliminary inspection isn't something that's very easy considering I'm not very well-versed with this sort of thing. Also, do consider that dual- or triple-booting is much simpler and has much less risk since there's no need to test and possibly brick anything. Furthermore, you have the option of triple-booting (or quad-booting etc) your laptop if you don't use ExpressGate.

Does this release install fine out-of-the-box? Or do I still need to do the .ini mod?

Also, the link to the Elantech Touchpad on the first post is dead. Instead I downloaded the driver from here: Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire S3-951

Is it safe to install it?

Am I the only one experiencing a problem with the new touchpad driver? It can not detect three-finger taps on my notebook.

Reverting to an older driver at the moment to have it work.

I love my Asus N43SN, but there are two things I would like to change about my laptop.

    1) Remove the on-screen notifications that pop up when I change the volume, disconnect the charger or turn off the wi-fi. Here's what it looks like now

    2) Make the play/stop/next/previous buttons work for other programs than Windows Media Player. I am talking about the functions on the arrow keys on my keyboard.

Any help on how I can fix this?

    Thanks in advance :)

You'll have to ask Asus, all these are controlled by the Asus applications (ATKPackage, Wireless Console) and I'm not sure how you would go about modifying these applications.

What's the key combination to pick the DVD or USB at boot?

F2 is for bios and F4 for easy flash but I cant find the way to popup the boot options.

You have two options available to boot from another device:

Press Esc at boot and you'll be presented with a menu allowing to select the boot device of your choice.

Change the boot order in the bios and restart, a bit more time consuming, but it works.

You'll have to get a wifi adapter with bluetooth built in, such as the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG (1x1) adapter or the Intel Centrino 1030 (1x1) or the Intel Centrino 6230 (2x2) adapters.

You can use the card with 2 antennas but then you might as well get an Intel 6205... or you could buy an antenna and install it manually. This requires a bit of skill though since there are no available service manuals for this laptop and I have never disassembled the screen before. All I can say is that it's a pain to take this laptop apart because of the sheer number of screws Asus stuffed in it. If I recall correctly it was 50+ screws to disassemble the laptop and remove the mainboard.

So what you'd recommend is the 6230 (since the 6205 doesn't have bluetooth).
Is this board (6230) plug-n-play? Just need to remove the old card and put the new one?

You'll have to remove the previous wifi card's drivers and install Intel's. Also, the wifi card is a pain to remove, you'll have to remove the whole motherboard from the chassis just to remove the wifi card. Make sure you're confident with doing this before you buy the card.

All you have to do is install the 6230, install the wifi and bluetooth driver, both of which can be found in my driver list and you're good to go.

    Sure, no problem :).

What's interesting to me, after I installed it, my WEI subscores turn from 5.4 to 6.7 (for graphics) and from 6.6 to 6.7 (for gaming graphics). It seems there are some improvements in it. Nice to have!
