Mega update bonanza!
Almost every driver updated, even found newer versions of ATKACPI utility and Wireless Console 3 (the two out of three pieces of Asus apps that are not bloatware or useless, last one is KBFilter which has no updates). Go to first post, expand the drivers list and use the drivers as you please. List updated today, so it's pretty much the latest stuff there is out there

Hi, I have a question on pricing
Aside from the sounds, I wonder why N43SL is much expensive than almost the same almost specs K-series notebook (that has larger screen, newer processor) by quite a huge margin. -
Which K series notebook?
-
Can you help me? Thanks -
See here.
-
I still don't find how to do that
EDIT: OK, I had to accept license, now I can to modify it -
I tried with and without battery, no way it died.
I recommend do not use this Bios update or maybe your laptop will die like mine. And now to call SAT again -
-
I've got the replacement yesterday, everything works beautifully BUT, the camera shows up-side down, so I had to take it back to get a new replacement, again.
I wonder what happens to Quality Control guys? Are they too lazy to check everything?
Since there are no other ready stock, I have to wait another week. Hopefully this last one replacement would have a happy ending.
TO ASUS GUYS: PLEASE CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU PACK. RUN A WORST-CASE SCENARIOS. -

An upside down webcam can either be adjusted via software or tweaked in the registry. I tweaked some setting in the registry for mine (can't remember which one) and it was all fine.
-
The difference is that N43 has GT550, Windows 7, additional 2GB RAM, a better audio, and a better cam, but that should cancel out from the K series notebook that has a newer processor, 2 GB graphics card, 750 GB, 5.6 inch monitor -
It's up to you, really. And the amount of VRAM doesn't matter, 1GB in a GT540 or 550m is more than enough, both cards do not have enough power to fully utilise 2GB of VRAM.

Here is the photo about the case for the DVD housing
Transforming the internal DVD drive into external doesnt change anything to the drive. Still burning CD and DVD at good speed and the drive is still bootable! Moreover, it doesnt need the second alimentation cable, the Usb cable alone is providing the power needed.
In order to remove the DVD drive you need to remove two screws :
the first one is reachable when you remove the battery:
The second one is reachable when you remove the lid to reach the ram :
Here is the photo for the caddy mounted with the asus cover originally taken from the DVD drive :
To conclude, it is a very good purchase that i dont regret!Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
Thanks for the explanation and the photos. I'm considering to do this change to my Asus too...
I still have some questions:
1- The second hard drive shakes?
2- I saw that you used the side of the DVD drive. How is it assembled? Does LED blink when the hard drive is being accessed? -
Well, I opent a RMA case and will send it to Asus, I hope thy fix it. -
Did you use a different medium? A differently formatted thumbdrive or an external hard drive formatted as NTFS? A NTFS formatted drive will brick your laptop if you use it during EasyFlash.
-
2- You can detach the side of the DVD drive easily by releasing 4 clips and put it on the caddy. no cutting no glue! But no more Led blinking on the side, the led was on the dvd drive. -
I've asked about the blinking, because I saw a video where that is shown...just one last question, when the change is made, the new hard drive is automatically detected?

Well, I'm convinced. Thanks for your help skrilin5. If you have more enhancement proposals I'm glad to hear them.
-
can an external subwoofer work in our n43sl? just like the n45sf?
has anyone tried it? -
I don't know what the subwoofer for the N45SF looks like, neither do I know what connector it uses. If the connector is a standard 3.5mm jack then it will work without a problem.

I flashed to 414 using the same thumbdrive I use everytime and it went without a hitch, so I hope that was an isolated, one-off incident
-
Hi,
I'm a new user for N43SL. My spec:
Core i7 2630QM
8 GB DDR3
640Gb Hitachi
DVD-RW
SLIC 2.1 BIOS v414
Is it possible to use more than 8GB of RAM into this laptop? -
It depends on whether the bios supports more than 8GB. No one has tried that for this laptop as far as I know.
-
Well, Asus received my laptop 2 days ago and today is in "final testing". Maybe I'm lucky and it's returning next monday
-
Under the driver link for HD Audio manager, there's multiple option to download, maybe i know which to download ?
-
Do you mean my driver list or Realtek's driver list? There's only one option for mine, it's here.
-
Well, Asus tech have been very fast. Laptop was taken on Monday and Friday has come to me repaired.
I was able to put the latest BIOS from a USB stick, but both before and after wearing them, I've noticed that now the VGA gets hotter than before. Ugh, what a hell ...
They have also done something wrong, Asus have placed seals blocking the compartments of the RAM and HD. Do not assume that I can extend it if I please, without affecting the warranty? -
-
Sorry, that link was broken. Try this one.

Hi, this is my first time posting.
I have a N43S with i7-2630QM, 4Gb of RAM and GT 540m and I really like it.
However I'm a little worried about how it heats while gaming. While playing Mass Effect 2 for exemple, I get the temperatures shown on the picture, it seems to be pretty hot. Is this normal?
I was thinking of opening it and trying to clean the dust, but don't know how to open it. Are there any videos explaining how to do this procedure?Attached Files:

Actually, your temperatures are very good. Did you play for 30 minutes or is that temperature from when the game just starts? After playing for hours, the maximum temps for CPU and GPU for my computer are 90 degs and 78 degs respectively.
-
Hi, first post here.
Got a N43SL i7-2630QM / 8GB / 1GB GT540m / 500GB Travelstar 7K500 7200rpm.
Great machine, although had to reinstall everything form a Windows 7 DVD instead the ASUS restore, because all of the bloatware... Clean install with only the software that matters is way better!!
But then... when updating to BIOS414 with easyflash, everything went ok, everything verified, the computer shuts down after update... and never got up again .
Went to ASUS support, they even tried to recover the BIOS, but no success, got to have a new MB. Damn...
Now I'm waiting for the repair...
Although I'm very satisfied with the machine, they have to make the BIOS upgrades way better. Had HP for years and the upgrades always went smooth, with 0 problems.
Rgds -
When using Easyflash, you have to load the bios file from a thumbdrive or external HDD formatted with fat32. Flashing the bios from any device formatted as NTFS will brick the computer. See here for details.
-
Yeah, I read it but, completely distracted, updated from the internal hard drive.
My fault...
Funny thing, already did the upgrade to 413 with winflash, and went perfect... Damn easyflash...
One thing that intrigues me about this NB is the GPU led... never saw it light up . Maybe it's like this... -
I have never seen it light up either. If you can, drop an email or call Asus and ask why. I don't know why no one's GPU light never seems to light up at all.
-
Asus fix it, but I had to send laptop to repair. -
-
So I never updated my BIOS since I got the laptop. Why is it necessary to do that kind of update?
Does it speed up the boot-up process or something? -
Look at the changelog. Usually it fixes a problem that Asus deems serious enough to fix, or it updates some things to improve performance and/or stability.
-
My ASUS came back all perfect... with a bonus
The new MB is a 2GB nVidia GT540m instead of the 1GB.
That's quite strange... or not, I guess!! Perhaps they stopped doing the 1Gb MB.
Other than that, everything is the same, and yes, the BIOS is updated already . -
That's good

Since nobody wanted to run some Linpack tests for me I'll post some results for a N43SL using i5-2410M, hope they might be useful to someone.
First the processor.
First run with Linpack sees some throttling where the multi can be seen to drop from 27 to 26 then 25.
Some adjustments to power levels using TS from 35W to 45W. Very generous for Asus to set Icc to 97A but I really wouldn't want to see half that flowing through the CPU.
Okay, results without throttling.
If the quad uses the same cooler I would think it might hit the 95C throttle temperature. Ambient temperature here is quite high so that doesn't help much.
HT can cause high degradation with Linpack but it doesn't seem too bad on the dual core.
Results of running 2 threads on separate cores. Core temperature hitting 86C
Furmark temperatures seem quite acceptable for stock. Note the CPU temps, this is usually indicative of shared cooling for the GPU and CPU.
A quick SuperPi run (not optimized), almost as fast as my P8600
And at least Asus has enabled AES-NI on this laptop. HT gives ~20% boost over no HT, 1GB/s vs 1.2GB/s
Well that's enough of the N43SL, back it goes to the owner who seems content with it. -
Anyone know where to get my N43SL keyboard fix or any online shop to buy it from? My Tab button won't work, I tried cleaning it and still nothing. It works sometimes but it undergoes an endless amount of repitition.
-
I think the 'throttling' seen by Dufus is just the processor following what it's supposed to do with turbo. It can only stay at x27 for a set amount of time and x26 for another period of time, then x25 all the way until there is no demand for the power.
-
Intel core i CPUs will throttle down until they reach the base multiplier if they exceed their TDP. SNB is allowed to go over the TDP for a brief period of time though contrarily to arrandale/clarksfield. I did not notice that on my SNB dektop because my i7-2600K never goes over 50C, but i did see this happen on my 920xm. As soon as the 55W TDP is exceeded uner prime 95/8 threads, it will clock back from x17 until it either goes back into spec or to x15 which is the base multiplier for 4 cores. If i set the maximum heat output at something like 75W, it will stay at x17, pretty sure the same applies to SNB CPUs aside from the allowance to go over TDP for a small amount of time.
