    Hello there!
Have anyone tried BF3 on this comp with gt550? :)

And also a question to Too456: How does n43 compare to you 3820tg? Heatdifference under full load, noiselevel under full load etc? :)

    /Vileplume :p

Never tried BF3 on my N43SL, haven't bought it yet :p but Crysis 2 on high, DX11 enabled and high res textures enabled on a GT540 gets about 30fps, which drops to about 25fps during firefights. My 3820TG on the other hand on high without DX11 or high res textures gets 25fps on high, dropping to about 20fps during firefights.

As for heat, the 3820TG goes to 85 degs max on full load, while my N43SL gets to 90 or so. Both have IC Diamond, and with stock paste the temps are in excess of 100 degrees max.

Both make a little noise when stressed, but not enough to really distract you.

BF3 is running 30 fps when detail are in high and only 20fps when ultra + AA2X. I OC the GPU to 820ghz in order to see how much i can gain but only few fps more (4 fps better).

For my N43SL (GT540m), on medium it gets about 25fps, so I usually play at GT550m clocks (740/900/1480) which gets about 30fps. Temperatures go up to about 90 degs max on CPU and 75 degs max on GPU, both with IC Diamond.

Please find below the N43 with chiclet keyboard!

Nevertheless, I think it could be better with black frame... but wasnt available for french layout... So dont hesitate to order one keyboard and if someone is ready to make the backlit mod : Post photo!!!!

I think all you need to do is:
    1. Buy a replacement keyboard that fits the dimensions of the original keyboard.
    2. Remove the original keyboard by lifting the 4 tabs above the keyboard and remove the cable.
    3. Insert the cable of the replacement keyboard into the same slot.
    4. Push the keyboard down onto the chassis to lock it nicely.

As I see it, the hardest part is getting the keyboard :D

What 4 tabs above the keyboard?

And he could mention what keyboard is that, that he got. :)
It's the only other change I would like to do in this laptop.

Does the keyboard works as well as the original one?
Do you see any flex with that chiclet keyboard?

Already found a keyboard with the portuguese version.
I'll maybe look into the backlit keyboard before deciding which one to get, but I think I'll go for the regular one.
After this, the next step will be to upgrade the RAM to 8Gbs and the disk to an SSD. :)

EDIT. Already bought the Keyboard by 15€ in ebay. Silver version as well. Even if a backlit keyboard would've been nicer the fact is that there is too much tinkering involved that I don't feel confortable with doing.

    Hi!

I have a N43SL, and I think the windows 7 score is lower than expected. For example my lowest score is 4.9! What is your scores? Thanks.

Which category did you get the lowest score in? Graphics, RAM, HDD etc? Anyway, my lowest score is 5.9 because of my HDD, although I wouldn't use WEI as a reliable gauge of a computer's performance as there are other benchmark tools that do a much more comprehensive job of testing your system.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. I get 4.9 in the AERO graphics... I know that the windows index is not very reliable, but i thought it was strange to get such a low mark in it. Any ideia how i can improve it? Can it be because i´m running W7 x86?

I think you got 4.9 in Aero graphics because the integrated Intel GPU controls the Aero display. Nothing to be worried about imo.

Hmmm, it should probably be that! This thing with 2 graphic units is just so confuse =P. If I bought a notebook with a GT540 is because I want to use it, right? Lol. Just saying. Thanks for the reply btw =). Another thing, what do you have installed that comes pre-installed? I did a clean a install and besides graphic and USB3 drivers i dont have anything installed. Is any of that original stuff good? Thanks

PS- My second worst windows performance index is 5.5 in RAM, but thats probably because I have a x86 software, and it just uses 2.4Gb instead of the 4 i have installed.

I would recommend installing the drivers that I listed on the first page since those either affect performance or functionality. Also, I would recommend installing 64bit Windows instead of 32bit Windows since there are very little application compatibility problems and it allows your system to address the full 4GB of RAM.

Hey! I have a N43SN laptop and is pretty happy with it. But I do get a weird lag in most games, it comes and goes and seems to be the same even if I lower the graphics. I have the newest graphics drivers. I get this in heavy games like BF3 and less heavy games like Arkham Asylim.

    Any ideas?

I do use a external screen(22") that I have connected to the laptop, may this be a problem?

Does anyone know how to edit the fn functions? I would like to edit the button which opens iexplorer to make it open firefox, or even disable it since it's more of a nuance than a benefit. I always accidentally use it instead of turning down the brightness of the screen.

    Hello to everybody!

I received my N43SL one month ago and yesterday I had to send it to repair.

When I connect my Sony TV 32" with VGA, I see continuous refresh lines. there are so much that when I finish I still see colours and strange things, even if I'm not using the laptop :D

So I decide to use HDMI, but it seems like if I connect TV by HDMI it only uses Intel HD card.

I played Starcraft 2, and with VGA it seems to run OK, but with HDMI always have 75fps. I think laptop is using IntelHD and Nvidia with Pshyx like a support.

Finally, when audio outline stops to work I decide ton send it to repair.

    *Snif* 1 month and problems...

Just got my new keyboard and replaced the old one with it. The procedure was actually really simple to do!! And the new keyboard is much better than the old one.

Considering that was one of the main gripes I had with the laptop this was a very welcome change!
The procedure to change the keyboard was absurdly simple also. :p

I recommend anyone who is unhappy with th keyboard to change as well since the procedure is a piece of cake even for non-technical people such as me.
Just keep the old keyboard at hand to change it when sending the laptop to the warranty.

    Hi guys

I have this graphics problem with my N43sn, the graphic card doesn't seem to perform the way it should be. I can find the graphic card 550m gt in the device manager just fine( so its not that the gfx isn't recognized) but i'm getting really bad frame rates for games such as Dawn of War 2( or similar games released a few years ago) on medium settings. Also i just ran 3dmark and my score is only 1200. Any ideas of what i can do to? I'll send it back to the service center if i have to, but that will be the last resort....Anyways thanks for you help and great thread!

Hey guys. Just wanted to comment on your framerate issues. I'm 99% sure that it's the common Intel SB issue. Basically if the CPU reaches a certain temperature, it will attempt to clock itself down to keep a limit of 75 degrees celsius (i think it was). You can google this as sandy bridge throttling or heat issue. Many other laptops have it. There is a software, which name I cannot remember at the moment, that you can download, that effectively disables temperature limits and downclocks.

My laptop remains pretty cold, though it could be because of a downclock cuz its always cold even when i try to run graphic intensive software. That is why it gives me the feeling that the gfx is not pulling its weight.

hi guys just got my Asus N43S Jay Chou edition yesterday, do you also experience the screen blackout when you are on the battery saving mode when you unplugeed your laptop after charging? mine blacks out for a bit then it changes the wallpaper it so annoying my friend who also got the same laptop experiences it too so just want to ask if you encounter it too. and does the laptop have a manual switch for the GPU because i ran the DXDIAG and it shows that it is using the Intel and not Nvidia i want to use the dedicated GPU but i don't know how to make it work some says it automatically turns on if your task needs it but what,s the use of getting this model if i can't use the nvidia all the time. i tried playing a blu-ray video but it still uses the intel graphics :( help would be much appreciated.

The black out is probably power4gear changing power profiles. P4G is set to change the wallpaper by default between quiet office/power saving and entertainment/high perf. Those settings can be tweaked so that the wallpaper won't change.

Optimus will switch to the GPU when it detects an app requiring more oomph.

Intel HD Graphics is more than enough to watch HD movies, the Nvidia card is more for gaming than anything. You can set which application uses which graphics card in the Nvidia control panel.

I know that but when i connect with HDMI my Asus N43SL I think it is always using IntelHD and Nvida only like a support.

Connecting by VGA playing Star Craft 2 HQ is giving 30-40FPS. Same configuratoin with HDMI 75 FPS and with very lower graphics.

I think PshyX is using Nvidia like a support not like the main adapter. Clicking the image can see it bigger.

    EDIT:

Well, finally I was right and in Asus Members I can see they are waiting for a motherboard spare.

Maybe i could have it repaired and returned next monday.

I already changed my keyboard for one similar to yours and I must say that the difference is huge in terms of quality.
I mistype a lot less often than with the original keyboard of this laptop, the difference is like night and day!! The original keyboard is really ty and I recommend to everyone to change it to notice the difference.
Thanks for showing me how to do this because right now this laptop is almost perfect for me.

Now it just needs a SSD and a bit more RAM. :D

By the way, could any of the users try to get the maximum amount of battery life possible? I'm just curious, if i buy this one with a dual core system running on intel hd chipset, how much should i expect at BEST in work mode?

    Settings to try:

    - power saver setting
    - around 40 % brightness
    - no wifi
    - cpu state set to maximum 25%
    - no screensaver
    - set to hibernate at 5%
    - turn off screen in 1 min and HDD after the shortest available setting.
    - windows Aero disabled, solid color background (e.g not a high contrast background)
    - some word editing, some browsing, without any flash.

Thanx a lot! Let's make history with this laptop :p

At best I got 5 hours, wifi off, 30% brightness while doing some paperwork on balanced power profile. However YMMV since my battery is the larger capacity 56WHr 6 cell battery.

Backlit would be hard since I did not notice any spare power connectors on the motherboard. A different keyboard would be fine, but I think backlit would require some chassis mods if you want a switch, and also trying to find extra power connectors on the motherboard itself.

Great. No one answered me about my problem, but I reported the news.

Asus now tells me I can be waiting up to 30 days the spare and, if it does not replace, the workshop would offer me "a solution".

Let's see, the solution is clear: if they can't give me a spare then must send me another laptop, that is:

    1) Give me my N43SL repaired
    2) If is not possible, then give me another new N43SL
    3) Or if there are no more stock, then send me a N43SN

If they are thinking to offer a 15.6 "I will not accept it.

    grrrrrr

N43SN is exactly the same as an N43SL except for a GT550m instead of a GT540m (which can be a GT550m very easily).

Wow thanks for this quick answer!

Not really sure but this mod is maybe only useful for offline activation for Windows 7 and vista...

I was looking for a Bios mod in order to configure ram CAS and frequency like on G series... but seems to be hopeless... :s

    Hi,

Do you know why Speccy shows 4 memory slots when N43SL just have 2?

Is this an error or am I missing something here?
