Try creating a new profile that has the clocks that you want, and set Nvidia to enable that profile when Starcraft.exe (or whichever game you want) and see if this works. If not, you'll have to use another tool like MSI Afterburner and see if it works.

What is its model number and capacity? Is it 56WHr or 47WHr? If it's either then it's probably safe to use, if not then all bets are off. If the size and shape are correct, it will probably be compatible.

I have a question, is the N43Jf the same size as the N43SL/SN? And like is the keyboard the same size? And could I please bother you as to measure how big the keyboard is? The width and height? Greatly appreciated.

Yes it supports it. You have to enter the driver configuration page, enable it and configure it to your liking, then you're good to go.

    Hello, friends!

I'm thinking about to buy a N43SL and change its HDD for a SSD.

I have looked for information about motherboard mounted on N43SL to know if it supports SATA3, but I don't find anything.

Can you help me? Do you know which motherboard is mounted or if laptop supports SATA3 devices?

    And TRIM? Is supported too?

    Thank you

The motherboard supports SATA II only, but SATA III is backward compatible so it will work if you buy a SATA III SSD as well. As for TRIM, it does not matter which hardware is used, the command is only supported by Windows 7 and several Linux builds, so if you want TRIM then you will need to have Windows 7 installed.

    Thanks for aswering!

Then, the only question now is "which SSD to buy". I was looking 120GB SSD's and I don't know if take a Vertex 2 or Vertex 3 or Vertex Agility o Crucial Serie 3... uf, I'm confused :S

It depends, I would get a SATA III SSD for future proofing (and also because it will almost definitely saturate the SATA II bandwidth), but I will not get a top-of-the-line SSD as it's overkill for SATA II.

Ok, I finally buyed a Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD.

I'm thinking to make 3 partitions:

    1) 65GB to OS and programs
    2) 25GB to data (only will use it if it's necessary, when I wnat to have some files in SSD).
    3) Rest for Temporarily files.

I ordered this configuration, so I will use the HDD with external case by USB 3.0, to make the downloads and keep SSD only to execute installed programs.

    1x ASUS N43SL-V2G-VX177V -€ 676-
    1x Crucial DDR3 SO-DIMM 4GBnts -€ 25,89-
    1x LogiLink UA0106 Alu schwarz -€ 14,90-
    1x Corsair Force 3 Series 120GB - € 140,90-
    1x Dicota CasualStyle schwarz -€ 29,50-

    Product Value € 887,19
    plus Shipping/Handling
    € 31,-
    Total Value (incl. 19%VAT): -€ 918,19- (1,228.08 USD)

I know it has QWERTZ keyboard, so when I'm sure all is working fine maybe i buy this item to complete the laptop.

    What do you think?

I think for temporary files Windows will automatically put them into the Windows partition so I don't think it is necessary to make 3 partitions, just 2 will do. Other than that, I think your configuration is fine :)

About temp, there is no problem to have it on windows partition?

I know that with SSD defrag is not necessary, but I thinked to separate because temps normally are being removed, appear new files, remove again...

Maybe will be better to have all temps in same partition, appart OS.

    I don't know...

The temporary files will be placed in the same partition as Windows, this is built in and you cannot change that.

Okay, you got me :) but I still don't see the benefit of changing the temporary file location, if only for fast deletion since the disk cleanup tool does the same :)

Hi, I tried to activate the pinch zoom function by going to the touchpad configuration page from the control panel. I can find all other functions offered by the touchpad, but I could not find the pinch zoom function in the configuration page. Can anyone help? Thanks alot.

With HDD, it's reasonable to move the TEMP folder to separate partition as it would clutter the partition, where system and program files in it are rarely changed. It would then minimize files fragmentation and result in a high-performance partition for Windows to run. However, I'm not sure if files fragmentation could result in a performance loss with SSD. I think if you really want to know about it, you should try both configurations and observe yourself how it could affect so.

I would also like to add that (Windows) TEMP folder is not the only source of files fragmentation. It's usually used by app installers. Other temporary folder can include browsers cache, like Internet Explorer in "%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files", or other browsers in their own cache/temp folders.

Has anyone tried to play Call of Duty World at War on the N43SN? I am finding it difficult to get the graphics to run smoothly, and when I try to use a better screen resolution than 1024x768 it freezes up and stop reacting... kinda annoying playing like that on a widescreen laptop.

The game is almost three years old, so I would assume my laptop should run it smoothly.

Try right clicking the executable, select "run with graphics processor" and choose "high-performance NVIDIA processor" and see if it works.

Its an interesting question if N43sn can handle games properly. Here is my problem:

whenever I play games for 5 minutes or longer, the FPS drops to an unplayable level. One of CPU cores gets overloaded with so called hardware interrupts. This contonues even when I quit game and sometime a reboot does not even help. Using Latency Monitor I was able to see that the reason of hardware interrupts is ACPI.sys - which may be assosiated with power management features (I am not sure though). Interesting, that the problem only triggers by gaming as if it is heat or video driver related. The temperature of CPU is never above 75 and GPU never above 65, so I think heat should not be the problem. I have updated Nvidia drivers and all sort of drivers on my machine, even the BIOS. Nothing helps. I am getting desperate about this and think it is either this model's problem (Asus would then need to confess) or a Windows 7 x64 issue. Might also be that I am not lucky with any piece of hardware. Does anybody have the same or similar problem?

Maybe ACPI BIOS is configured to down system performance when determinated temps are present.

Check it and inform us, please. Luck

The thing is that my BIOS is by AMI (American Megatrends) and it does not seem to have any option on ACPI or even a Chipset! Chipset tab is not there. To be honest - I never before have seen such an optionless (nothing to adjust) BIOS where even a power management option is missing. AT first I thought that I should update it and it will look better. Well I did upgraded to the latest version 412, but nothing changed and hardware interrupts are still there

    ANy other suggestions or experiences?

I didn't know of that function thanks... the menu of the game was actually a lot easier to navigate, but the game itself wasn't changed much. When there's a lot of people in action it's like playing in slow motion.

What games do you play Andreyash?

I play Call of Duty 2, which is quite old, runs like a dream. CIV 5 runs smoothly, as well as Football Manager 2011, but they're not really that heavy. But then again, Call of Duty World at War doesn't seem to work properly.

I am a big fan of STALKER, and as you know this game is not new either, so it should run on maximum with ease. Actually it does, but as I said for 5-20 minutes of play, then hardware interrupts begin using about 100% of a sinngle core of dubole core processor. Because STALKER is old game, it seems to use just one core - primary. ANd exactly this core gets loaded by interrupts and the game is slow like hell. I just noticed that going to hybernation and back does help to realese the CPU from hardware interrupts. There must be some copnnection with power management or heat issue

Try uninstalling Power4Gear Hybrid, restart and see if there's anything effect.

And if you want, you can uninstall Video Magic, AsusVibe, LifeFrame and Splendid Utility, since they are pretty useless imo. In fact, the only Asus utilities I have installed are Wireless Console and Virtual Camera. I uninstalled everything else since they didn't seem to do anything.

WHat is interesting though - when I play on integrated Intel video card - the problem does not happen! So, the source of hardware interrupts is Nvidia's GT550m or the way it is talking to motherboard or CPU. Perhaps it is because of Optimus? I am lost

I reread your previous post about hardware interrupts, if one core is screwed from too many interrupts, set whatever game you're playing (for example STALKER) to run on another core other than the one overloaded. Right click the game executable, set affinity and choose just one core that isnt being overloaded, and see if it helps.

    I've got this Nvidia driver:

    Nvidia 03.08.2011
    driver version 8.17.12.8026

Windows update have found a later version, published 27th September, but released in August, it doesn't say anything else about the version, should I trust that WinUpdate actually finds the right stuff?

It has also found: Intel - Other hardware - Intel(R) Management Engine Interface Download size: 54 KB

In general, is it a good idea to update drivers with WinUpdate?

You can get the latest Nvidia driver from here. Normally I update with the manufacturer since they usually have the latest updates as compared to Microsoft Update, but it seems this time Microsoft Update suggested the latest version for your GPU.

Hi guys, I just received my N43SL Jay Chou Edition today. I have bought a faster hard drive to replace the one provided. However, there are some special features included such as a special startup and others. What I want to do is to replace my hard drive and do an installation of Windows Ultimate, however, I do not want to lose those special features such as the start up. What is the best way to proceed? Upgrade into the Ultimate then make a complete back up? Install the new hard drive and restore the back up? Please help!

Hmm..well..it's best if you see for yourself...as I have no idea where to get this downloaded or functioning. And I don't think it's Fancy Start as well.... Here's the link.

ASUS N43SL JAY Start Windows Music - YouTube

Look really carefully and you may see its an animation of several icons scrolling before the J appears with the melody. This happens before "Windows is Loading"

If it happens before Windows starts loading, it is part of the bios and should not be affected by a reinstallation of Windows. This is only a guess, since my N43SL is a non-Jay Chou version and I cannot verify this.

I've got one last problem with my n43sn now, at random times when I watch movies with VLC/Mediaplayer Classic the picture and sound freeze. The sound goes AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR (quite loud) for a random amount of time. Once it never stopped and I had to turn the computer off using the on/off button, it didn't respond at all when trying ctrl+alt-del. I think this also happened with Windows Media Player, and sometimes with Winamp. I have these sound drivers:

Intel Display Audio: version 6.14.0.3074 date 15.10.2010
    Realtek: version 6.0.1.6449 date 30.08.2011
There's also a Bluetooth audio device, but I guess that's not relevant.

What's even the point of having the Intel Display Audio one? Could there be a compitability problem, interference or something?

After many research, I am going to replace my keyboard with the chiclet keyboard from the U80... I will post photos when it will be done.

In case it is working, i was wondering if we can do the backlit mod... but I am not ready to solder my MOBO yet :s !

Good luck with changing the keyboard, make sure the dimensions are the same :)
As for backlit keyboard, I have no idea where to find a +5v connector on the mobo, never having searched for it. The disassembly is the same, but you'll have to search for a +5v connector.

I now have dark fantasies about getting a back-lit mod, looks amazing, would def. improve the look of the laptop loads. (But I think it's pretty nice looking already).
