Protos, just wondering. What power adapter did you buy? ASUS only supplies 90W adapters for N43Sx models

it's strange because in Poland, N43SN with i7-2630QM were coming with 120W adapters as well (and the same thing with N43JQ earlier). I bought a replacement adapter 19V/6.3A. I could try 90W again but I'm a bit afraid of a possible failure and damage to the motherboard in case it's not enough.

There were guys here who bought their N43SN with 2670QM, I would need a confirmation about what power supply they are using. Anyone?

BIOS= idk, since I'm not running windows 8

I disable sound on fancystart using a blank MP3, but it's designed to have a small volume so that you don't wake your family when turning on the laptop :p

Hey everyone, count me on the number of N43 owners that put an SSD in it and the HDD in the DVD drive caddy. :)
I also increased the RAM to 8Gb since it doesn't take more than 8.

The difference in responsiveness is notorious and the WEI jumped through the roof. I already added a chiclet keyboard to the notebook and a matte display protector.

I already have the notebook since June 2011 and never gave me any type of problems.

Hey Kodiak, I bought a Crucial m4 128Gb in Amazon.co.uk 3 or 4 months ago - it was cheaper than getting it in Portugal. But only had the time to install it and clone the OS in the last week. First time doing it, so I had to troubleshoot a lot.
Nowadays you can get a 256gb Crucial m4 for 200€ in Pixmania. Not sure about other stores.
The 4Gbs of RAM I just went to a Chip7 store in Oeiras Park. I could've probably have gotten it cheaper in another place. It's a Kingston 1333Mhz 4Gb stick.
The HDD caddy I ordered it from eBay.

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure that it supports up to 16 gb ram, but it just isn't specified anywhere. For example, see this: Memory Modules and Upgrades N Serie N43SN 16GB (2x 8GB), 8GB (1x 8GB), 4GB (1x 4GB) and 2GB (1x 2GB) Notebook - Asus - RAM
They offer 16gb ram upgrade and claim that all upgrades are checked and proved to be working.

I have 8gb ram and I'm considering giving a try at 16.. I'm using few virtual machines and planning to use more, so it should be quite useful.

It is suppose to indicate when the GPU is used like in the N53SL. Problem is Asus never activated it... (maybe custom BIOS?)

it was supposed to be on when geforce card is in use. somehow, it never worked and I don't know anyone who got it to work. pretty much useless to me.

also I ordered 2x8GB of RAM, I'll tell you whether it works with N43SN or not :p in a day or two

EDIT: yeah, it works. BIOS as well as win7 shows 16gb of RAM. it could probably even take more as i7 support up to 32gb but well... 16 gb is already an overkill.

also I installed 7.2Ah (larger) battery. dunno how long it allows to work, I'll post when I test it a bit. the minor drawback is that it blocks display at around 120-125 degrees (normally it can be opened up to 135) so if you upgrade it, you have to be a bit careful not to damage your display.

I'll provide photos and some additional info if you need, so just ask.

    Hello guys

I was wondering, I'm having problems with my 540M I can't seem to make it choose nvidia instead of integrated graphics. I already unistalled drives and then installed intel first and then nvidia ones. Still same problem even when I choose by left clicking it just goes to integrated graphics it doesnt even go to nvidia.

I saw somewhere it was because Nvidia Optimus is not working properly. I also saw that each manufactor has a different way to work with nvidia optimus and that sometimes in order to remove you need to reinstall windows using a different copy than the manufacter although same serial works.

Now I was wondering do I realhy need to unistall it? or is it a way to disable Optimus completly, it realhy annoys me, cant play games at all.

Is it an OEM windows 7 or a retail?

Just wondering if you've bought this battery yet? I've found it on ebay but I see it's not the original battery, any risks involved in this? I really need a replacement now, but if I can save $100 that's pretty tempting.

no risks, really. it lasts between 5 and 8 hours for my configuration, depending on usage

the only problem I encountered so far was that sometimes it would stop recharging at <100%. I don't know what's an issue really, as I changed power supply from 90W to 120W also. the solution was to leave it to recharge while laptop was off, then it would recharge to 100% without problems. might be a problem caused by software (OS or w/e), I have no idea.

other than that, it works fine.

btw after you buy and install it, be careful with opening the lid to it's maximum angle. the battery blocks it a bit at something like angle of 125-130 degrees and I think that it's possible to damage the lid and maybe the screen if you try to force it beyond that.

Thanks for the input mate. I opted for the same battery as I currently have because of tax issues, the price doubles when you reach a certain sum because of various import issues here in Norway. I also did a little research on these kinda batteries, and my impression is that these replacement batteries are actually produced at the same factories that makes the original, the difference is the freaking sticker. I also read that some people get better batteries with better capacity because of newer technology, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I found a reputable guy on ebay, it should arrive in 2-3 weeks. Thanks for your help pointing me in the right direction.

I have a N43SL which updated to 414 BIOS (supports i7-2670QM), but when I try to boot from the i7, the system hangs at the Asus Logo and no answer from keyboard (cap locks doesn't work), anyone has any ideas why it doesn't run?

    As of now i'm running i3-2310M & 8GB 1333Mhz Ram

One of the internal components of my charger burned out, so I ran and bought a new toshiba 90w power adapter. Works welll :)

@Composer.Nhan, try external keyboard and press F2. Mess with the CPU settings in the BIOS.
Btw running a modded bios or a vanilla bios?

The external keyboard doesn't work, here's the situation:
When I change from i3-2310M to i7-2670QM, the bios boots, press F2 to access bios, the bios reads the cpu as i7-2670QM, because there's nothing else to change so I save settings and exit, that's when the system starts to hang, it hangs at the logo or sometimes nothing shows on the screen.
Do you think i need to change the power adapter from 90W to something else to handle the 45W CPU?

I don't think so, but the BIOS settings may stick to the i3 because it's not an unlocked (modded BIOS)

.414 (SL) Modded BIOS .rom image: N43SLAS.414.rom

Change CPU settings to match the i7 (TDP/power limit/etc etc), there is also a reset button (safe boot/?) i believe, using one of the function keys

Match it with the settings: W110ER/NP6110 | Prema Mod of this W110ER, although it's not the same i7 it the settings would mostly be the same.

But if somebody with a default i7 on their N43 can post the settings that'd be great.

finally got external support for my N43SL
i got high cpu usage, it can reach 40%. When I use high cpu (like gaming), system and system interupts will consume about 10-20%cpu usage. And I have to restart (sometime about 2-3 times) my notebook to make it normal again.
I google it to find what's going on, I use windows perform toolkit (analyzer) and found the culprit. It's acpi.sys that use high cpu.
I dont know what to do to fix it, my bios version is 414.
Now I use Windows 8, I try to back to 7 before and do without install any program(just nvidia driver to play game) and the result is same.
Anyone can help me? Just wanna try little bit more before send it to Asus service center

Use Asus Power4gear high performance profile when playing game then switch back to Energy Saving (or Battery) when you do normal things, it would be fine

@wafflepancake Use this .bat file (first run the basefilter then the ipreset). Disable LAN networking via network and sharing center if you're not using it.

Go to Easily explore your PC and scan for drivers

DO NOT update graphic drivers from that site: use this ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...pdate-nvidia-drivers-any-windows-version.html)
    Driver sweeper: http://kat.ph/driver-sweeper-v3-2-0-portable-adhderby-t6108221.html

Most likely a DPC latency error, but if the above steps does not fix it reinstall windows (sorry).

    @composer.nhan

I modded the BIOS myself, so far about 27 people (from another forum) have successfully modded their BIOS

This is one of the result

I'm still doing research for other terms, thanks for the long term turbo limit.
As of now I can get stable bios reset (which means it goes pass POST) but still can't load into windows.

Could you provide me more info on other settings? Like Short Term Power, EC Power, C States - P States (Ratio too)..

    -----

I can now boot into windows with your bios mobius, all settings default except for CPU lock settings, I disabled all the lock but have to remove graphics drivers to boot properly, HWInfo read the graphics 65MB memory. Still finding the problem, do you have any ideas?

    I really need help.

I own a Asus N43SL Jay Chou edition. I almost have it a year now.
Lately I am getting lots of issues regarding overheating while gaming. After 30min playing a certain game. I see my FPS ingame go down from 80fps ticking down to 10fps within a 30sec. Then my game lags hardcore of course. Then my fan starts spinning up (it's being around 100 degrees celcius (GPU). It cools down in like 1min. I can play again. After 5-10min it starts again, and again and again.

I tried different Nvidia drivers, but it doesn't help. Is there any fix. I downloaded MSI Afterburner and assumed I could force the fanspeed to be 100% all the time, but my Fanspeed is greyed out. Is there any other way I can force my fanspeed to be 100% all the time. This is driving me nuts.

I am about too throw this garbage laptop out of the door.

I checked my BIOS and this is most useless BIOS I ever seen. I cannot adjust anything.

    Please help me

    Hello TrlpMo

It seems pretty obvious that your laptop overheats to temps higher than 90 Celsius, as it is when throttling occurs.
What you need to do first is to use compressed air (if you haven't done it yet) inside to remove all the dust from inside. Also is your laptop being used on desk? you should avoid using it on bed/carpet/whatever that blocks air vents.

If it still doesn't help, try repasting CPU and GPU. when I upgraded processor to i7-2670QM i used IC Diamond paste and now even when playing for a longer time, the highest temperaturę that occurs is at about 80 C. there is a disassembling guide in this thread so if you have basic manual skills and some patience you can do it yourself.

    Hello Protoss,

Thanks for the reply. Oke I know how to repaste my CPU and GPU. Worked as desktop / laptop engineer for 10 years. So that is not an issue.
I only wonder tho. If I would open my laptop will I void my warranty. My Laptop has 2 years hardware warranty.
And I don't have my laptop 2 years yet, and an overheating issue is hardware related. Should I go back to the shop were I bought my laptop? Or just do it myself?

Also if the CPU and GPU are repasted, should I get a laptop cooler with it. This is the first time I use a laptop for gaming. I always had desktops so I never had silly overheating issues.

I kinda find a trick to keep my GPU temp at 80 degrees, but it's a work around (and maybe the problem comes back).
I read on some forums that the overheating issue with an I5 and GT540M can be fixed if you go into control panel -> hardware and sound -> power options -> advanced power settings -> processor power management -> change minimum and maximum processor state from 100% too 80%.
This will disable the turbo boost function. So my processor will run slower. This way it seems the GPU will remain around 80 degrees celcius (but the processor is not being used to it's full use).

Also I rather want it just fixed, and that I can use my turbo boost to the maximum without having troubles of overheating.

I hope to hear soon from you.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,

    The choice is yours:
    a) void warranty but being sure that repasting was done properly (buy a decent paste like IC diamond for this),
    or
    b) trust service center that they will repaste it..

I would do that myself. I bought my N43SN in 05'2011 so by the time I changed it's drives and keyboard it was 02'2012. In 11'2012 or 12'2012 I've changed CPU, RAM, battery... literally upgraded whatever I could and never cared much about my 2-year warranty. Of course you might care more about warranty so maybe (depending on how much is left of that) you will return it to your shop. But be aware that they won't make any magic there, if anything, they will just repaste it with some average paste and send it back to you.

    Hope it helps

    RW - Read & Write

Trigger absolute max fanspeed, highest speed which cannot be triggered using normal usage methods.
