BIOS update (latest) fixes the win8 brightness problem

I can also mod it to view the advanced menu (CPU/cooling etc).

Tell me if you want it, I can do all the SN/SL/SM version.

Recently I've had problems with my laptop shutting down completely when the battery runs out instead of turning on hibernation when it reaches 6-7%. Before I also would get a warning saying 10% left to give me time to connect the power. Now it shuts down and I have to chose how to start windows, normal, safe mode etc. Any suggestions on what might fix this?

It started happening without any particular explanation a while ago, I don't think it had anything to do with driver updates eg,, I tend to notice that kinda thing after updates. Might be some crappy windows update i guess... I've got Win7.

My Asus N43SN is not handling well my country ambient temps :(

    http://i.imgur.com/R6csZ.png

It is screaming even without any CPU intense tasks.. All I did is watch YouTube videos and compile a couple tex files and the "Interrupts" process showed up using 100% of one physical core - This increases my temps considerable :(

Ps.: I have a Zalman Notebook Cooler ZM-NC2000 (it is awesome, right?) Oh yeah, also using ThrottleStop to disable Turbo Mode =/ ohh and, using a compressed gas can to dust off the vents is not helping T___T I'm hoping my PC survives until I buy my next one =/

    Hi there, guys

I read this thread since a long time, it's really helpful.
I've already changed keyboard to chiclet in my N43SN, put optical drive in an external case, bought Samsung 830 SSD, placed it as primary, while the existing one 640GB HDD to the optical drive bay.

I was wondering if any of you tried upgrading CPU to i7-2720QM ? I've been searching for some info here and there but I was unable to find the confirmation that it works with the latest 414 BIOS version I upgraded it to.

I know that it works with i7-2670QM, so what about i7-2720QM? I'd go for 2670QM but I can't find it anywhere, while some people sell their 2630QM and 2720QM CPUs.

At the moment I've got i5-2410M and the temperatures are pretty low (below while browsing web, several applications opened, Diablo3 running in background):

Can be a bad paste job too, but maybe if you ask "hopelesslyfaithful" you can get some "heat-spring" TIMs which works better than ICD7

I will work on modding the v414 BIOS, the CPU is upgradable and compatible with the 1st/2nd line of SB Core-i's
Be sure to sell the old CPU back at ebay or something to not waste it.

    1. Is N43sl supports instant on
    2. Is N43sl supports super hybrid engine
    3. I did not find in Power4Gear Turbo mode or power saving mode.
Thank you in advance ... please reply :)

First two are complete BS and is not recommended to be used.

Uninstall and reinstall the P4G utility. It should have 4 modes. Also "Turbo" can mean "High performance" mode, different name, same settings.

There's no way that Win7 would startup in less than 5s except from sleep mode.

For the extended sleep (standby) mode, you can always use hibernation.

For some it might be useful, but I personally can't find an effective way to use it.

    Just my opinion though :)

Both are included in the audio driver and is a part of the realtek control panel.

Supplied with driver CD, but is recommended that you download the newest from the ASUS website.

Google your model and go to asus's website

Under downloads you select your OS

Then proceed to download the audio driver labelled under "audio"

First of all I would like to apolozige for my bad english :p

Hey guys, I was searching for solutions to my problem but couldn't find the answer...

I have an ASUS43SN but when I game for more than 15m or even 10m my laptop begins to lag and it goes like this till I restart. The i7 gets 100% percent usage at the core 1 and I must restart the laptop to use again. I don't know if this is an overheating problem or the i7 is somehow "broke"...

Has anyone faced something similar to this?

Yes, same problem I have with my Asus N43SN, but mine don't even need a game to overheat and turn the CPU 100%. I "solved" it by using the software "Process Lasso" to disable the first core for all applications. This first core will still run at 100% all the f**** time, and it will heat a lot your system even when idle, but the applications will not lag as much...

That is my "solution", if anyone have a better one, pls share :3

    Throttling

    -Unpark CPU core [ http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility]
    -Change P4G to High performance
-make sure min CPU usage is 100% and cooling mode is active
-Download [ http://rweverything.myweb.hinet.net/] on embedded controller table column 01 row 90 change value to 01
-Remove keyboard, exposing fan hole, blow out vents (this way the dust will come out of the hole and not recirculate into the laptop)
-Download throttlestop, CPU freq= turbo, disable BD prochot
-Remove RAM cover (i always have mine off anyway) + Elevate laptop

    Opt
    -Repaste with ICD 7
-Drill hole in bottom cover for the fan intake

Btw, SirHase. Maybe the 100% usage is caused by a virus? It's impossible for win7 to use 100% cpu.

Thank you Moebis for the more detailed explanation. I did most of what you said, and now will try removing the Keyboard to blow some air and remove RAM cover..

and, ops, sorry, missed information :)
It's 100% on just the first physical core. The same thing can happen on Linux if I stress the hardware enough...

    Hi.

Flashed to the latest BIOS update (N43SLAS.414) and the brightness problem still persists. Did not flash the bios you posted since it is for the SM edition. Will it work on the N43SL?

Strange, I got mine from station-drivers. It works fine.

Try this: How to download WD SES Device USB driver - Western Digital Community

DO NOT crossflash BIOSes from different Sx models to another.

The brightness fix in .213 was for the SM, not the SL/SN. Try contacting ASUS if they can release a new one that addresses the problem.

If I let the game use the first core, the game will start lagging once the problem happens... By setting the affinity for each application to ignore the first core, it will run fine....

The drivers in disc are Broadcom & Azurewave.
Both of them do not be installed.can I use Atheros driver instead of Azurewave.I have an unknown device with this hardware Id:BTHENUM\{8e780202-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb}_VID&0002000a_PID&0000
I think Azurewave corporation use Atheros hardwares for providing it's devices.I think their devices is same and so the drivers are too.Azurewave provides devices for ASUS.

Dear all owner and user of Asus N43SL,
I have some problem with my notebook,
About 3 month after I used it, the webcam keep connected and disconnected by itself,
and the speaker keep making sound like when you connect/disconnect USD drive (you know what the sound is like, right?)
Then I think its totally disconnected, because I never hear the sound again, although sometimes it connected again.

I've tried to check the cable connector to the webcam on the screen bezel, but nothing work.
I think the problem is the connection to the motherboard (maybe the connector it loose or something).
Right now, I disconnected the connector to the webcam, but I hope I can used the webcam again.
Did someone have experience this? I really want to fix it by myself.
    Please help me.

    Thanks a lot.

I think I can be sure it's the battery, it varies when it goes. A couple of minutes ago it went at 19%. So, I guess I have to buy a new one then since the battery warranty only lasts 12 months.

Can I buy any kind of Asus battery with 6 cells, I see these are the specs from post #1: Battery: 6-cell 47Whr / 6-cell 56Whr. I found a couple of ones at a Norwegian webshop:

    6 cellr

    9 cell

I want to try to disassemble the notebook, to check the connector, but the guarantee sticker makes me doubt to make the decision, because it is still valid for 1 more year.
I cannot remove the sticker using thin and sharp tool, because it looks really stick to the surface and screw.

Hey, I've replaced my stock i5-2410M with i7-2670QM and it works perfectly. I'll post some info, might be useful for some of you if plan to upgrade also.
I also changed thermalpaste on CPU and GPU to IC diamond 7. Now having temperatures even lower than before when doing the same things.

Now the last thing I'm going to do (after changing keyboard to chiclet, removing optical drive and adding SSD, and changing the processor ofc) is buying 7,8Ah battery to achieve max 7-9 hours on battery. I'm not gonna bother changing the memory, I guess 8 GB is max what this notebook supports?

This is WEI atm (sorry for not english but I guess you can figure out what is what):

Thanks for this excellent thread, it is really helpful. Special thanks to the one who made a guide how to disassemble this notebook.

btw: also do not forget to change power supply to 120 W if you plan to upgrade to i7. the bad thing is that it's quite bulky (like 50% bigger than 90W)

Nice touch there, I might just copy your upgrade in the future. Could I ask you what kinda battery you bought? Do you have a link to a site with some detailed descriptions of it?

My battery has gone bad it seems (goes anywhere after 20%), and I would need a new one soon, but I can't seem to figure out exactly what model suits the N43SN.

I haven't bought it yet, but I'm going to buy:

search ebay for "a32-m50 n43" phrase, you should be able to find some batteries for N43SN
keep in mind that the one above is 7,8Ah so it's larger than normal

Thanks! I will have a look around.

When you say it's bigger you mean it will extend over the edge of the back of the laptop?
