Have you installed all the right driver and set the power management so that the laptop does not dim it's screen?
If the problem still persists, I would recommend you to get the driver fixed with an ASUS rep or get another RMA -
I just think is it the battery power (i mean the wattage of the battery) bring to this laptop is too low and will cause the problem occur? This is because when I plug in the AC line, it will not happen anymore.
And one more thing I wanna ask is, is it the top up additional RAM can make not enough power to support the laptop?? Cause I top up 4GB RAM for it. -
I am running 8GB RAM and having no issues. -

New user here. Wanted to post a problem I encounter with the Asus N43SL started a month back.
Since after upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional using "Windows Anytime Upgrade".
Intermittently I will have this Display Screen Distorted issue. The screen will display exactly as show in this youtube
Asus N43SL malfunction screen problem - YouTube
I have search around and tried all solution like update drivers and even perform a factory restore then upgrade to
Windows 7 professional but the problem still happen intermittently. Initially while trying to locate the problem, it
seems that after running Asus Live Update and update Nvidia drivers, the display distorted came on immediately.
Uninstalled that nvidia version and downloaded the newest driver from nvidia website but problem still occur at
anytime during usage. Laptop no more warranty so wonder anyone encounter this issue and manage to solve it? -
I can't reproduce the problem, sorry
Maybe the reason is that I have a 630M 2GB instead of a 540/550M 2GB?
Anyways, I just spotted a SL with a gold speaker grille. ;_; I want that color -

Hey everyone!
I'm new here and would like to point out a problem in my N43SL laptop.
Since sometime, the 'fn' key has started to act weird. I cannot use it to control the volume (by pressing fn + f10/f11/f12 keys) and neither do the f8 & f9 keys work in conjuction with the fn key. But surprisingly, the f1 to f7 keys work, and I donot know how to fix this problem.
Suggesstions will be highly appreicated! ^.^
Thanks =) -

I tried installing the 'ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities' from ASUS's website, but it says that another version of it is already installed. I tried finding that driver in C:/Windows/System32/drivers but couldnt find it.
Could you let me know how to find the old driver so I can delete it and install the latest version of the ATKACPI driver? -
Add or remove programs---> ATK package (i think)
On the other note, I just got a thermal shutdown because I closed the lid during CPU and GPU Folding, it seems that this laptop draws air from the top side (keyboard) instead of the bottom
I removed all of the filters btw -
Hey guys, BIOS 211 with a changelog of "Update ME firmware" is out
Does anybody know what does ME firmware mean and has anybody flashed successfully using WinFlash? -
Probably the Intel Management Engine Bios Extension.
-
Can you try it using WinFlash?

Hi, kinda of a new member cause I'm recently having a problem with my N43SL maybe some of you experienced it too and could help me. I'm usually just browsing the net when it occurs. I will suddenly lose connection to the internet (the other computers in the house doesn't) and the laptops starts to lag so bad.
I attached a picture, seen is the first graph in the CPU Usage history has spiked and stayed there and I guess causing the lag. Troubleshooting the wireless connection problem stops the lag and restores my internet connection but sometimes it doesn't. Its happening a lot more frequently now and I'm guessing my adapter is broken. Is there a fix for this? Thanks guys.
Specs:
i5 2410M CPU
6 GB RAM
64bit windows 7 ultimate

too456, after skimming through this thread I've seen that you are clearly quite knowledgeable about this laptop. So if it's not too much to ask, can you teach me how to get to the BIOS battery?
What happened was my keys were acting strangely (alt+tab closing the active tab on chrome, rewinding in VLC, right arrow key producing 5s, insert key producing = instead, etc.), and so I tried to do a BIOS update. But the most recent BIOS update, which came from the ASUS site itself, bricked my laptop and it won't respond to the power button now So my last hope, short of sending it for repair, is reseating the BIOS battery because the way I understand it, it needs a battery to "save" any changes you've made to it. So removing it and then putting it back in should reset it to factory settings, yes?
I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove ANYTHING except the cover on the RAM on this laptop. So can you help with a disassembly guide of sorts, so I can reseat the BIOS battery? Thanks! -
Format a USB to FAT/FAT32
- DL a BIOS from ASUS, rename to "laptop model number".BIN, example like mine N43SM.BIN
- take out battery, hold power for 5 seconds, plug USB to a port, connect power brick
- press CTRL+HOME (win key) together w/ power button
Then a flashing process will appear, if finished, your laptop will shut down automatically. Disconnect power brick, hold power for 5 seconds, reconnect. Turn on laptop again. After that, enter BIOS (F2) press F9 (load optimized default), then press F10 (save).
If it doesn't work, try a different USB port.
BIOS battery can be accessed by disassembling the laptop
In a BIOS related topic, does anybody here take interest to mod a N43SM BIOS to get the 630M to run at 1 volt instead of 0.98 volt? -
Is the 0.02v extra voltage really necessary to eke out a few more mhz out of the 630m?
-
I can push it to 810MHz core, with 0.02v more I think I can push a little over 828MHz and maybe even 850+MHz.

my N43SL using fresco logic 1000 for USB 3.0, it always give me random BSOD when start windows. Tried to fresh install windows update the driver it did'nt work. the last I try using to copy with my external WD usb 3.0 give me random error when copying multiple files....any solution or help mybe...?

Anybody with an SM (630M) model installed the latest 306.23 whql? Does it work or not? Because with older drivers it can't detect the hardware ID for an ASUS GT 630M
-
Hi everyone!
I want to know how do you clean your N43! Mine started to eat a little and i'm guessing there's a lot of dust inside. But when i'm about to open it, i figured that the fan part isnt removable. So, how do you do it? Thanks! -
Open the keyboard (tiny latches) and spray compressed air trough the vents in a left to right motion
Check a few pages back, someone actually disassembled and repasted the N43 on his own
Hey everyone, just to let you know that GeForce 306.23 works with the OEM GT 630M, but I had issues with BF3 and downgraded to 306.02 from LaptopVideo2GO. NEVER EVER use 306.23 on a GT 630M -
Made a BIOS mod for the N43 SM, please try it and post pic if more options show up after flashing
DO NOT change any options, yet

Ok my friends I sold my N43SN on Thursday and buy an Asus N56V, I want to thank you for this is excellent product forum. Goodbye.

hello all, i browsed this thread in full for an answer to my problems and couldn't find one, so here goes.
i recently picked up an Asus N43SN. it's a great computer but plagued by three (related?) problems that cripple its usefulness.
1. in-game FPS fluctuates wildly on battery power. it'll run along nicely for a while, then drop 20 FPS and become unplayable, then jump back up again after a few seconds. it'll do this consistently. for whatever reason, the problem solves itself when the computer is plugged in - FPS stabilizes. okay, i can live with playing my games plugged in, except for the fact that:
2. when plugged in and running games, the AC shuts down - the computer is effectively running off ONLY battery power even though it's plugged. i've confirmed this by removing the battery so the computer is running solely on AC, then booted up a game. once i'm past the menu (ie. in the game world) the computer automatically dies - this leads me to believe that there's some behaviour here telling the computer to not run off AC when the nvidia card is really working. secondly, with a battery plugged + the AC plugged in + the game world, the red light that indicates charging turns off. if i pause the game, the red light immediately turns on, and then it goes off again once out of the menu - again, it's like the GPU has orders to not run off AC when rendering.
this problem is not program-specific - the behaviour is exactly the same for every game i've tried it with (alan wake, civ 5, skyrim, deus ex, etc).
it's crazy because the computer obviously recognizes in some fashion that it's plugged in because it's not plagued by the battery-only stuttering, and yet selectively chooses to not charge when playing. since i can only run off battery power when playing games, it basically means i have a 2 hour time limit before i run out of battery power and have to stop to recharge.
3. on top of everything, temps are ridiculously high. both the CPU and the GPU run in the high 90's when playing games, according to CPU ID and open hardware monitor. this is consistent - if i'm in bed with a blanket or on a desk with the laptop propped up on books for airflow and an electric fan blowing directly at it, the temps are always around 95-97 when taxed. so i'm not even sure if the programs are reading it correctly, but it does get extremely hot.
honestly, i don't even know where to begin - does this sound like a hardware or software issue? should i just send it in to Asus? i'm kind of determined to solve the problems without sending it off, so i'm going to repaste the computer to lower the temps, but i don't know how to approach the other issues. i've tried every combination of drivers i can think of, from the stock ones the laptop came with to the ones listed on the OEM page to the latest ones on the nvidia and intel sites, and nothing seems to make a difference.
any help would be very much appreciated. -
Well I have a problem with my Asus N43SL (i5 2410 / 500GB HD / Nvidia 540M 2GB DD3) and it seems to be VGA card.
I sent it to Asus and now they say that is not possible to find spare piece.
Wich one is the next model to this laptop? If they change it for another model I want to be sure that I will receive similiar or superior laptop.
Thanks -
They offered me an Asus N55SF with i7-2670QM 6GB 750GBHD VGA 555GTM 2GB DDR3.
I will miss my 14inch but the other specifications are deffinitively better.
Good luck -
Hi.
I have one N43SL and Asus site doesn't show Windows 8 drivers.
Are the Windows 7 compatible? -
hi everyone . .
i've N43SM,but i've trouble with the bluetooth,
it can't send or receive any data and it can't detect another bluetooth too . .
in device manage, nothing blutooth icon appear,
i've tried to re-install the device, and it said bluetooth wasnt plugged in..
can you help me what's wrong with mine?
thankyou . . -
Try windows update
I'm having problems w/ USB 3.0, USB3 drives disconnects every few GB's or so -
Where do I find updates to the HDMI drivers btw? -
Nevermind, downloaded newer fresco drivers from station-drivers. Fixed the problem
You update the HDMI drivers along with the nvidia graphics drivers (306.97 recommended) -
As for the Laptop itself, bad cooling is what it is. Don't count on any heavy gaming because it'll Throttle (with or without ThrottleStop) due to poor cooling. GPU heats up the copper pipe > passes CPU > gets hotter > Throttle. I've tried repasting and tested a laptop cooler but due to the way the cooling is desgined (it'll suck up air from above) it'll barely do anything.

Hi.
Need to buy 4gb for my n43sl.
What kind of memory do I have to buy? Any good value for money suggestion?

Also, at some point I'll drill a hole beneath the fan, the airflow design is terrible.

Hi everyone o/
I have a Asus N43SN and I'm having a problem but I'm not sure it's the "hardware throttle", so I'm hoping someone can clarify it to me. The problem is, when I stress the hardware using 100% CPU (all four physical cores), the application lags, and once I finish it, the CPU stays at x26~x28 multiplier. This multiplier (I believe its the Intel Boost thing), do not drop, even when there is no process using the CPU at all... And it is bad, right now I'm idleing at ~78C with CPU usage ~10%.
Is there anything I could do to stops the "lag" in my application? - I'm measuring process time of my parallel app, really need it to be stable
Edit: An entire logic core is being used 100% by a process called "Interrupts". So I guess I'm facing a hardware throttle problem
Edit2: I could not replicate this problem in Linux =O -
Run Throttlestop and disable BD prochot
RW - Read & Write (download) on embedded controller table column 01 row 90 change value to 01
Clean out vents -
Thanks.
Will take a look into your suggestion.
On Windows 8 I've updated the atkpackage driver.
Although all seems to be ok, the brightness isn't working as expected. It's going only one step up or down.
Anyone else experiencing this?
