Welcome to the party!! I hope you don't have any issues, but if you do please post here. Its a good a community who will help you out of most issues.

In update to my own 3D woes, I received and watched Piranha 3D last night. Played in 1080p, Stereoscopic 3D without a hitch through CinePlayer. Also tested with PowerDVD 10 and it worked a treat. All good!

    Hi everyone!

I just bought a brand new ASUS G73JW-3DE!

    Awesome notebook!!!

...anyway, i noticed a problem: Assassin's Creed (the first one) can't be played...

Ubi support just said that the GPU is incompatible! :/

Someone else is having my same problem?

I found the poblem with Power DVD 10 in 3D.....

Check the settings, under "mobile power settings" change the power dvd power scheme to HIGH PERFORMANCE.

I did this, and now I can play the 3D Demo (on the desktop) with no stuttering at all!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright I just received my refund from sending my G73SW-A1 back in. Here is my dilemma, I'm not sure if I should go for the G73JW-A1 or 3DE. I would love the 120hz screen and think I might get that one. They have it on buy.com for $1854 and the A1 is 1699 with 100 mail in rebate so would only be 1599 after I get it. or should I wait for the SW to come back out, I heard some things like intel just did a temporary fix to the chipset and it won't actually be fixed until they redesign it. Is there any other difference's between the JW and SW except the slight processor difference? Please let me know what you guys think on here. There doesn't look like there is much of a performance difference between SW I7 and the JW I7. let me know

And i still stucked with the 266.58 Drivers, which i dont even know if they´re better than the ones from asus. 260.63 installation gives me "not recognized hardware" when trying to install them.
Is there a walk around to install 260.63´s and then get to the 260.99´s. Thanks in advance for some help.

Did exactly as you described. After entering the force command the firmware just stayed the same, however i´m not really having big problems after installing Crystall Disk Info and maxing the settings out. It would be nice not having to do it after every restart.

The 120hz screen is great and non reflective. I do miss a little bit of contrast, then it would be perfect but it´s just great. Go for the jw 3d if you can. if you wait for the sw, there will be anounced a even newer modell the moment you open the box of your new one. And so it goes on and on. If the differences were bigger maybe it would be worth waiting, but as it looks like...

Well if you can wait for the next refresh ... maybe 2-3 months ... ASUS might come up with gtx 485m ... It is almost 60% better than gtx 480m which is almost 15-20% better than gtx 460m.

All said Im still very happy with my purchase; but being in your position i might had waited and watched for some time.

    your call.

Yea I'm considering waiting but since I read some articles about intels so called fix to the chipset issue with sandy bridge I'm kinda of worried about waiting and ordering the new SW models if Intel really hasn't fixed the issue at all.

@Allzonecars: The green bag from the G50/G51 series will not fit a G73.

That's what I thought. So I take this as it's the backpack from the 2nd picture that is bundled with the PC. Ordering this beast on monday :D

I had an M17xR3 in production when Intel's hit the fan. Going to "settle down" with this other great system because I have to replace my stolen laptop before march 15th. I thought the difference between 740qm and sandy core was about 100%, but the more I read, the more I find a 10-15% difference. Anyways, I am stepping up from Q9000 so I should be fine.

I have another question though. Since Q9000 was quad 2.0 (2.16 with ASUS overclock), and 740QM is quad 1.86 with turbo boost, will I actually see a decrease in performance for CPU bound quad-optimized games such as GTA 4?

You just need the nvam.inf file from 260.63 driver, no need to install it...
Edit the file, change 20141043 entry (2 lines need to be modified) for 203D1043(our model) and save.
Copy the new modify nvam.inf file to the 260.99 folder and install.

About the firmware hdd update can you post the error mensage?

Going to order the 3DE this week. Just want to see if you guys or gals ran into any major problems. I know I have to update the HDD firmware since I had the SW but Just wondering if there is anything else I need to know about before I order it so I don't have to worry about sending another laptop back. Is the 120HZ screen really freaking awesome? lol, thats one ting I'm looking forward to plus the Blueray burner.

    Thanks for the Help.
    But it still didn´t work.

    I did the following:
Edited the .inf file from 260.63 copiyng the first 10 lines from the 260.99.
Than changed the 2 entries like you said. Copied the .inf file to the 260.99 folder.
Tried to install. "No compatible Hardware found".
Tried it without editing the 10 lines. Nothing.
The Problem is that i can´t even install the .63´s even for fun. "No Compatible Hardware found".
The only ones that worked for me where the 266.58.
    Am i doing it right?
    Even Though "Valeu Cara".

About the Seagate Firmware there isn´t relly a error messega after i force the install.
Just a screen with the name of the Firmware and a c: prompt blinking under it.
But i´m sure it didn´t Install

The firmware update worked after another try. Must´ve hit a wrong key. I hope there is an improvement. But Great work anyway.
Still no luck with the drivers yet.

Untill now, no Major problems at all.
I have mine for about four days. (After a bad bios flashing experience with a g73 JH).
There has been some improvement with the JW.
Couldn´t install the latest Nvidia Driver.
    Updated the HDD firmaware.
    Untill now i´m in love.
Ah, and the 120hz screen really is freaking awesome.

    Gd,
I need some help again. I have been suffering this stuttering on my OS hdd. Even when i type it stutters/delay i can see my own text appear on the screen after a full second that is not normal. Also in general use of windows i notice the stutter/delayed (for example viewing pics or working with programs). THe most oddest thing i found out is the following. I had a few music and video files which stutter like crazy on the OS hdd on both partitions. But do i move these files to the other hdd then the stutter of those files is gone(even the 3ddemo works without stutter). ONe note is that some files don't stutter though also videogames some need to "think"during gameplay and some games appear to run smooth.
I copied some movies too all four partitions. And notice that in my 2nd hdd there is no stutter at all of the movies which do stutter on the primary hdd. Even looking pics on my primary hdd is done with delay.
I have been formatting checking for bad sectors on the primary hdd, updated the firmware running this speed up programs for the hdd. But nothing helps.

Even not running the speed up program on the 2nd hdd when watching any movie and still the movie goes without stutter.

Does any of you have a suggestion or solution or a program which can detect any kind of problem in a hdd. Cos i think something is really wrong with my primary hdd.

Hey, I'm having trouble to choose between the G73SW model or the G73JW-3DE model. Any suggestion?

Is it okay to buy the G73SW model now? Is it fixed? Or should I wait for it or should I purchase the G73JW-3DE model instead?

I'm really having a hard time to choose between the two.

    Thanks Man, really,
Installation of the 260.99 worked great. The installer kept telling me that i had a newer version, but i imagine that´s because of the modded .inf file. It also kept asking me to overwrite the files and i did. I hope everithing went ok since the version im having now is from oktober 2010. Again because the .inf file?

Sorry to hear your still have problems. I can say that in both Cineplayer and PowerDVD10 the "3d demo" file on the desktop still stutters for me. I have also tried running the demo file from all 4 partitions and it still stutters. This is despite setting all the appropriate "High Performance" settings.

Whilst annoying, I have now played Avatar the game, Modern Warefare 2, Far Cry 1, and Half-Life 2 all in 3D with no hitches or stutter. I have also played Doom 3 in 1080p (2D as 3D is not supported) without a hitch. I don't appear to have any of the "thinking time" issues you have.

I have also watched A Christmas Carol and Piranha 3D both in 3D on 3D Bluray without an issues (bar stuttering on the trailer, but not the movie on a Christmas Carol).

With this in mind, I can rest easy knowing that it can play what I want it to. A demo isn't that important. The stuttering on the Christmas Carol trailers also suggests the stuttering on the "3D Demo" file is not HDD related since the video is streaming from a disc, not the HDD.

I get some HDD clicking, but this appears to only affect the OS drive as disabling Advanced Power Managment on only the OS drive stops it.

The only thing I can think to suggest just now if to test your HDD speed using Crystal tools. I intend to do the same and we can share results here to check whether yours is operating in the correct ball park?

    hey pierre2k
This is the info you see when you open crystal disk info. I hope this is the data you mean :)
the 3ddemo is not important to me as well i just noticed it since i was trying all kinds of files on all partitions it is this 1st hdd who lets me not enjoy the laptop to the fullest.
Could a "wrong" copy of windows 7 have a impact on the entire hdd?? so in both partitions?
In the data i see different numbers but i have absolutely no idea what it al means. specially the seek error rate is quite different.
well hope to hear soon from you

Never used it but you can always use windows safe mode and disable the smartlogon if it messes with your startup.

Ordered my 3DE on the 15th but I just about had a heart attack... Amazon.com (where I ordered it) is reselling from J&R Music/Computers.

I've never had a problem with either company (I've ordered non Computer items from both in the past)
    But...

    Amazon G73JE-3DE tech info
    Amazon says:
    "1TB (500G 7200RPM + 4G SSD x2) HDD; Blue-Ray Burner; 802.11 b/g/n; Illuminated Keyboard; 1x USB 3.0; 3x USB 2.0 "

    JandR G73JW-3DE tech info
    and J&R music says:
" Blu-Ray Reader & SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer Combo Drive

I'm still excited to get the machine a burner was not a deal breaker for me but it would be nice.

Would an actuall Owner tell me what the laptop comes with? thanks in advance.

Its a blu ray burner from all vendors the standard version it has to be changed by the vendor to anything other then a burner... I think it was already mentioned that JRR was incorrect in that ad and that they of course why they never changed the copy on that is beyond me.

Well I ordered with amazon and it was from jr and got it for 1899$+shipping. JR has listed that as wrong ... everything is stock and it does comes with blue ray burner + gaming mouse and backpack.

The packaging was great and they delivered it within 3 days as well for me. All the best!

Awesome notebook! I just got this last night from Abe's of Maine for $1849.00 with free shipping. I got this instead of building a desktop because I'm probably going to deploy here soon, so a traveling powerhouse only made sense.

It took me a minute to realize that updating the 3D drivers somehow made the IR emitter to stop working, but a quick uninstall fixed that pretty easily. I pretty much spent the majority of last night shooting wastelanders in 3D on Fallout New Vegas. By the way, the backpack is really nice and the mouse that comes with it, although wired, is pretty cool. The screen is just plain beautiful. The black matte 120hz makes everything seem really sharp without the glare of the glossy types.

All of the hype about the cooling system seems to be true so far, but to be honest I haven't ran anything extremely heavy or OC'd it yet. Compared to my old HP Pavillion this thing is like an ice box, and quieter to boot.

I was expecting the sound system to be a little louder than what it is, but for a notebook it's not bad.

Also, while researching this notebook, I read a lot of reviews about the keyboard being hard to type on, and the track pad often made it even more difficult. For me this is not true, even with the track pad active I can type pretty easily, and the huge layout of the keys makes hitting each stroke pretty simple.

I would definitely suggest this to anyone who is looking for an affordable gaming notebook.

Welcome to the club! I do hope you enjoy your laptop as much as rest of the other users do. Yeah for me as well never had any problems with the trackpad or missing keys ... maybe ASUS did better in 3de version of the notebook.

Welcome! How do you find playing the 3d games on the g73? Is it worth recommending? Are their dramatical drops on the fps during gaming on 3d?

Well I tried New Vegas for the first time on Ultra with the 3D settings, and it can be a little sluggish at times, but with a little tweaking of the settings you can find a very playable middle ground. As for other games, I still have a lot of testing to do, but for the most part I'm pleased with the 3D performance. It's nothing compared to some desktop setups, but it's nothing to shrug your shoulders at either. Once I get everything set up I think I'm gonna compare the different FPS in fraps and get a better outlook on what this thing can do.

Is ASUS's warranty voided by a end-user swapped mini-pci WIFI card?

It depends on how hard it is to get to it, whether you break any warranty stickers, etc. In the case of the G73 chassis, it's right there underneath the bottom access panel and comes off with two screws, so you're safe. :)

Well i geuss i am the first one to say i hate this computer i am so super annoyed.
i have done 3 recovery installments so far(in 5 weeks). I erased all my data everything.
but still i cant use this pc in a normal way cant even type without stutter in this forum (and it is not a heavy task for a pc to type i may assume) my mouse also stops now and then 3d i reinstalled numerous times.
the whole pc is freezing like every 2 or 3 seconds for a momemt to think about it.
It is a pitty cos i was very enthousiastic. but instead of going forward with buying a new pc i feel i made i few steps back only.
has anyone have expereince with guarantee service in europe? cant wait for the laptop longer then 3 weeks to return cos i am often gone for work.
The at home service from dell would be really nice now.
greetings from a disappointed unlucky owner

Do you know what causes the problem?
Does clean install remove the problem?
Freezing every 2 to 3 seconds sounds really bad. :(
    Try running an anti-malware/virus program.

There's a keyboard lag like on the other g73 series [I dont know if it affects 3de version]. I dont experience the lag maybe because im not a good at typing.

    Hi

There is a known issue where the Seagate momentus spindown causes temporary freeze for some technical reason. Even though I do not think the issue was as severe as the one you are encountering, you might want to correct this and see if it improves anything. You must follow these instructions because the firmware update is not intended for OEM disks, but some geeks have been able to work it through. Both disks should have firmware #24 rather than 22. Look at post #417 in the middle of the page for precise instructions and string:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...3de-info-specs-pre-ordering-available-42.html

Also, as for the missing keystrokes, I think the latest BIOS corrects the issue, but that I am unsure of.

    Good luck.

    Mine should arrive tomorrow :D

What I will do upon reception :

    1- recovery disks
2- upgrade BIOS (for missing keystrokes)
3- update firmware on both HDDs (for spindown lag issue)
4- windows updates (keyboard lighting should stop working)
5- reinstall ATK drivers to restore keyboard lighting (maybe twice if neccesary)
6- uninstall 3d and NVIDIA drivers then install drivers foung at NVIDIA DRIVERS CD v1.45 (GeForce GPU driver v266.58, NVIDIA 3D Vision Controller driver v266.21) WHQL (using the ones from ASUS support website supposedly causes 3D to stop working. T

    7- Reinstall 3d drivers
    8- Enjoy!

hi thanks for your reply.my bios version at present is newer then the one found on the asus website. kinda odd isnt?
the asus update tool isnt telling me that there is a new version.

firmware for the hdd i already did update to number 24 even used this crystaldiskinfo program . nothing helps there.
i am now downloading the new driver for nvidia but i think it wont solve the stuttering on the one main OS hdd. i aleady updated the nvidia to 266.58 but with a smaller version of 170mb the one you point too is 315mb.

note: my second hdd is showing no delays at all.

i have no idea what causes the problem i have been looking at it.
the oddest thing is this movie thing in the main disk almost all movies run bad
and in the other harddisk all movies runs so smooth. i have been installing and removing some codecs fromthe k-lite codec pack 32 bit. but cant figure out any problems there
the lag during surfing around in the pc is weird even the mouse just stops.
i havebeen thinking there is this not so good area on the hdd which gives the lag

clean install seems to remove my problem at first but cant do much heavy stuff since my pc is so empty after clean install

i have avast running as my antivirus program

ihave seen a new keyboard driver maybe i wil try to install it later.

Hey everyone i may seem new here but have been reading this thread alot. I have a whole different issue. This is my 2nd G73JW-3DE ive recieved, and this one has the same issue. The very first thing i did with both of them when opened was started the live update from asus. Aight to the point, there is no way my screen is in 1080p. All the menus state that it is, including the nvidia control panel. But it cant be. Every icon on the internet is blurry, the video that came preloaded of the wildlife, looks very crappy. Blu-ray movies are blurry. All videos on youtube that are supposed to be high def, are the exact same way(blurry). It feels as if every single image of what ever in the browser is pixelated(if thats a word). The factory background picture looks very good. What could this be? My droid x has better quality than this 2k machine. For real! This is really annoying.... I wanted one of these so bad, i may have to lean towards a refund. Hope someone can help.
