What speed issue is this, that is not fixed in either AMD GPU Tool or Overdrive?

its a bloody chipset issue.. bascially , the 5870M can take PCI Express 2.0 speed but due to intel being cheap , their chipset speed is limited to PCI express 1.1... this a joke..

I just bought a G73JH-B1, joining your illustrious company, but I'm having a problem. Hopefully nothing serious enough to require sending it back for exchange.

Basically, a short time after powering it up for the first time and begin copying files from another computer, my laptop began making an odd noise. Kind of like a *knock-knock*, a couple of seconds apart, constantly. It seems to come from right underneath the keyboard, top left. I've been looking for solutions but can't find anyone with a similar problem yet.

I'd appreciate any help. I haven't changed anything yet, bios, drivers or anything.

Kynnath, perhaps it's a loose piece of tape or wire? Are you able to look at the fan by opening it up and making sure everything is secure?

might be a faulty hard drive i think... if its new , Return it and get a new one... not worth the effort of opening it up and maybe voiding warranty if ur inexperienced doing all this.

Maybe I will purchase a G73JH-B1 at gentechpc.com. They can test it before shipping right? What I like about them is that you can customize the G73 to suit your preference (thermal paste type, processor, HDD, OS, etc.), plus they seem to have good customer reviews. My mom plans to go to the USA this January, so why not purchase it there? I'll just have to wait 'till next year.

look at GPU-Z... its been going on in side threads and 1 of chasity's threads but basically the 5870M which support PCI Express 2.0 is running at 1.1 due to chipset...

Question - This is my first laptop and I've heard lots of conflicting things about battery care. Apparently some of the strategies depend on what type of battery we have... sooo what's the best policy for the B1? Should I let the battery lose its charge sometimes? Is leaving it plugged in at 100% very bad?

i ususally discharge it everyday as i'm a little lazy to plug in sometimes... i suggest you do the same... my wear is 1.5-2% and varies day by day.... depends on how much i charge etc... had it for 6-7 weeks...

Lately with BC2 I seem to be dropping to 10 and 15FPS even without max settings. Does anyone know how well this laptop travels? I have flown commercially with it a few times. I have yet to overclock anything.

on battery power , its not good.. it downclocks.. however , if u set high performance profile in windows and do the following , gaming is perfect. Go to catalyst control centre after doing the high performance profile.. click on home sign and than click on the graphics symbol and go to powerplay.. there set the card to max performance on battery and card will play games on AC speeds and u can turn settings to max... Problem solved but battery life won't be good.

I just got my G73JH 2 days ago.

I have updated my catalyst drivers to 10.10 and vBIOS to the latest one. Is there anything else i need to do, other than clearing the bloatwares that come with the computer?

    Hello guys.
I have noticed that the latest GPU driver available for Radeon HD5870 mobile graphic card is 10.8. Is this true?
If not, please link me to the latest driver version available.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am looking for an online reseller in Canada that sells the ASUS G73JH (B1)

I have found a few, but I need one who can customize it (thermal paste, hdd, ram, optical drive, etc.)

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Seems that i will be still ordering the JH-B1 today and not the JW. Got one more question. The B1 has a i7-740 in it ....just wondering how hard would it be to upgrade it to the 940 extreme ?. The site were you can configure the JH has the 940 in the list. I found a local company that sells the processor for laptops. Will prob need a bios update ? or just plug and play ?

Thanks for your help. I just contacted them, and they are not able to modify the laptop before shipment. They only sell it as it comes.

They offered to upgrade it should I send it in after receiving it......... Not much point to that........

Well, had to RMA the laptop. The noise was the subwoofer speaker, and it wouldn't stop. It would start quiet, then start with it. Even happened in expressgate. Took a couple of weeks, but I just unpacked the new one. Yay!

    2. What is a good and cheap online store to buy laptop that provide a thermal paste service, accept a bank wire transfer or credit card not issued in U.S.A. or Canada and willing to ship the laptop to Canada.

    First off, Hello all.

I just ordered my G73JH-B1, should have it middle of next week and I can't wait!! My "old" Fujitsu N6010 has done me well with only needing to replace the inverter about 6 years ago and the lcd 2 months ago. I also have a couple others, a HP dv2000 and a Gateway tablet that I repaired for someone and then they decided that they didn't want them and didn't want to pay for the repairs. Well like I said can't wait till I get my new toy and I hope to get as good use out of it as I got from my Fujitsu.

"Lost" my first rubber foot. Luckily was in my home so I was able to re-glue it back to the laptop. Considering just doing them all now before I lose one that is not recoverable.
