When installing nvidia drivers they are generally unzipped into a "NVIDIA" folder in your main hdd.
(C:\NVIDIA probably)

Cpu-z can report my su7300 @8x multiplier so it's not that reliable... ^^
2630QM bandwitdh simply can't handle more than 8gb @dual channel. -
Scroll down to "Video Systems" and click on "Modified 285.38 Beta Updated INF Driver Pack (for those who cannot use the Verde notebook pack from NVIDIA)." Unzip it and install it. It worked like a charm for me.
Also, even though BF3 beta says you need to update your driver, you can just click "OK" and keep playing. -

Surprisingly, they updated the condition from brand new into manufacturer refurbished. So, the sales person I spoke with was right. I emailed them again a couple of time after the phone call but they never replied and I see this now.
tsnowdon, have you got yours?
And remember the manufacturer refurbished one from eBay?
If you look closely, the information formatting on both sites are very similar.
One of the obvious one is:
Storage:500GB 7200RPM hard drive <-- with the same bold format.
They probably have same product then even though different sellers (their ABN are different)..
BTW, to All, the specs are really similar to XN1..am I right?
What do you reckon it is a refurbished? The sandy bridge recalling/? -
More likely the power button issue
-
As I understand it, increasing the amount of RAM can only negatively impact performance in a dual-channel configuration if the frequencies of the RAM modules are different. However, I don't know if the gains of increased RAM outweigh the losses of differing frequencies?
Regardless, CPU-Z says my 16GB is "dual-channel," whatever you interpret that to mean. -
Memory Limit Confusion about Intel Core i7 2630QM...
-
-
Yes, but I'd advise against upgrading to a XM since it cant be overclocked.
-
So the maximum will be 2820QM, is that correct?
I am still indecisive of what to buy..
I open a thread on Which notebook should I buy.
I am a bit inclined to buy a Thinkpad W520 but it is quite a hassle since I need to but one from eBay and the seller has not responded to some of my question yet.
For G53SW, if I want to buy a ready stock in Australia, I will probably buy from the electronic bazaar or the SZ143V type.
It has around $300 difference (electronic bazaar minus 500GB and Blu-ray), but the electronic bazaar one is a manufacturer refurbished.
What do you suggest for the G53SW?
Or should I just go for G73SW? Its chipset is H55, right? Is there any significant difference? -
its actually 2860QM and its faster than 2920XM.
I have no comment about Lenovo.
Go with the Bazaar one, provided their return policy is similar to newegg. $300 more for a bluray and 1tb hybrid is not worth it, save that for a SSD.
Personally I dont like the G73 for its much larger size and I'm not sure you can install the new Sandy Bridge batch 2x60 with HM55 chipset. -
"Even the manufacturer refurbished comes with a 12 month warranty through our company."
I will ask them again...
I just looked on your signature and browsed for MSI
How G53SW compared to MSI GT680? -
Guys finally have bit the bullet and have ordered G53SW XA1 from Amazon.. Need to wait for 2 weeks though
Hopefully it does not come with power button issue as well dead pixels.. -
I have been using my new G53SW-XN1 for a couple of weeks, and it seems like the volume is rather low. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm comparing it to my Dell Vostro 1500 and the maximum volume of the ASUS is equal to about 50% of the volume from my Dell laptop.

Obviously it comes with a matt screen, 12gb of ram and a gtx570 video card. Wondering what else is new? Possibly its got the improved keyboard like on the new g74sx? I can't see the pics on the site so was wondering if anyone on this forum had any details. Thanks -

By the way, the graphics card isn't GTX 570M, but GTX 560M 2,048MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11. -
Hey, so this is the second time this happened, but the G53SW-A1 I bought did not come with a screen protector(plastic sheet taped to the front), which I assumed should be on all of them. Also, there were washer marks on each side of the touch pad, and marks all along the wrist area. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm planning to return it, but just want to know if this is normal.
-
What do you mean when you say washer marks? Considering your other concerns were normal, I'd say your laptop is just fine. -
I just wanted to thank you for pointing out that Chastity updated the driver page and also did all the INF fixes for it for those of us who couldn't get the INF thing to take.
I bought two G53SWs from Newegg on August 22 and have been stuck with driver version 267.xx until reading your post.
Huge thanks to Chastity for the know how and leg work and you for helping to spread the info. -
Hey guys,
I recently purchased my G53SW from amazon and it came in last week. Everything works fine and I am really happy with it.
However, I bought a Corsair Force CSSD-F115GB2 from newegg and its causing me a lot of issues. The SSD is not recognized by the BIOS. Sometimes it gets recognized and I installed windows on it during one such instance. Now when windows boots off it, everything is fine. But for it to boot up, I always have to go to BIOS and load optimized boot defaults because it dissappears for some reason. I tried putting it on both the SATA slots but the problem persists. I also installed the latest BIOS version from the ASUS website but to no avail.
Any help regarding this would be appreciated! Thanks! -
This is what I mean by washer:

Idk, maybe I'm being too uptight. I got it for 1050, so it's less than you can find it anywhere now, so maybe I should just shut up, and enjoy the laptop, but I don't want to end up regretting a purchase like this. When I get home, I'll see if I can force off the marks, I already tried to remove them, but I didn't try too hard.
Edit: I suppose I could put some decal, or sticker over the marks if they really annoy me, but I don't think I should have to deal with that if it's not a normal thing. -
i dont know its just personally i think it would be too much hassle, took you at least a week or worst a month to get another laptop and the shipping, the expectation,...and the performance is still the same, no trouble with power button or screen or anything.
But still im under the impression that its just a mark or 2 on the laptop. It could look very beat up or used but we havent seen any picture yet so yeah. -
Edit: I'm taking pictures for B&H to see, so I can post them here too for you guys, to get your opinion. -
As to the washer markings on the touchpad, I have no idea how they could have gotten there. Which is why I could not believe that's what you were talking about, even though I've seen thousands of washers in my life. -
-
-
-
None, other than try to look for the manufacturer's forum and/or other owners with the same SDD and see if they have the same problem.
-
Same here, i had A G50vt, a G51j, and now a G53, it's clearly my favourite. Finally a powerful laptop (GTX460m o/c) i can put on my bedsheets without being disturbed by the noise...
It's great to watch movies, browse the web, play portal 2 or any other game when i want...
Only thing i regret is the non backlit touchpad...
And the poor screen but i upgraded it, it's perfect now. -
Alright, I decided to keep it(assuming there are no other problems), since I do agree, this is the best 15in laptop I can get right now. However, if you guys wouldn't mind, I have a few concerns/questions.
1. The FN button software is wacky. I press the buttons, and the pop-up graphic comes out, but only after a few pressed does it actually work. Then when I press a different button, the old graphic comes out, even if it does the right thing(like lower brightness). I'm not sure which software to re-install, so could someone tell me. I know the buttons work, its a software issue, that's why I'm not too bummed, since I assumed the fix should be simple.
2. My old G60JX adapters work with this computer, but should I not be using them? It would be convenient to use them, since they are both right angle, and having 3 adapters is better than one. I don't want to cause problems though, so what do you guys think?
3. Is this laptop safe enough in the backpack, or should I get some sort of sleeve to add extra cushion in the backpack? If so, which sleeve would you recommend, since I know this laptop has a different shape than most.
Thanks so much in advance. -
1) I would try to uninstall all the ATK software and the reinstall them from asus websites.
2) The power supply adapter? I don't think it could be a problem, as long as the plug is the sam, and it delivers enough power.
3) In a good laptop backpack, no problem. Just don't throw your mouse with it in the same compartment.
I don't think sleeves are necessary for 15 inches laptop and above when you have the right backpack.
The g53 isn't the best 15 inches laptop, but it sure is in the top 5.
It's surely the best Asus 15 inches for now though.
You'd have the choice between :
Asus -> G53 Cheap, powerful, silent/cool.
MSI -> GT683 (and perhaps some others?) Very powerful (GTX570), cheap too, different design
Alienware -> M15X Expensive, good quality (screen, built quality..), powerful with the right videocard (460M and above)
I would choose between those 3 for a 15 inches gaming laptop. -
Anyway, it does charge it, I just wanted to know if it was safe. Maybe I should check the power supply, and such on each and compare. -
In short, the Lenovo and Acer were pure garbage. The Lenovo uses the gimped version of the GT555m which is only marginally better than the GT540m. And the Acer uses the first revision of the Sandy Bridge chipset, so while the laptop itself has two hdd bays only one can be used because Acer physically blocked off the second one.
The Alienware was beautiful, but it had a buggy BIOS that caused the fans to run full blast 1 in 5 boots, and only a cold start would fix that issue. And it was HEAVY! The G53SW feels feather light in comparison. And since the M15x is not Sandy Bridge, battery life was worse than on the G53SW.
I did not know of the Malibal P150hm which can be configured with up to a GeForce GTX580M and has a similar cooling system to the G53SW. In the base config it is the same price and performance as the Asus, but with the GTX580M it is $500 more. -
Just replaced my ASUS G53SW-XA1 screen with a B156HW01 V4! It has made a huge difference. Thanks to all the people who helped me find vendors/etc.
Next up:replacing this horrendous touchpad. -
yeah the stock G53SW screen is not very good. But why do you need to replace the touchpad? is it defective somehow?
-
Great news Dyskresiac, i took a v7.
I don't see how you could replace the touchpad though, it's "unique", designed for this laptop, isn't it?
Try other drivers/settings maybe. ^^ -
Guys, need advice.
So I noticed that my monitor flickers from time to time from full brightness to...well less. I looked at it and noticed that the power cord does not always charge my laptop. Dang thing is new. So I looked at the power jack....no it not what you think.....and saw that the jack itself looks like its come loose or something because it sits low and does not get a good connection to the power cord.
Should I and how easy is it to open up the laptop and reseat or reglue the power connector into its rightful place without having to RMA the thing?
I ask because I did this with my wife's Toshiba and it worked fine afterwards. The power connector was just loose inside the laptop. -
Is it the plug or the connector?
Plug : Buy a new adapter.
Connector : RMA IT NOW.
It's under warranty, it's a well known problem, rma it to Asus directly (not the shop you bought it from).
Don't bother doing it yourself, it's not easy to disassemble and you could do worst and lose your warranty. Just. Rma. it. -
So, this is the deal, the power adapters are a bit different.
G53SW:
Input: 100-240V~2.0A 50-60Hz
Output: 19.5V --- 7.7A
G60Jx:
Input: 100-240V~2.0A 50-60Hz
Output: 19V --- 6.32A
So, basically, the G53SW has .5 more volts of output. I like having an adapter in my backpack, and one outside, to save time moving it in and out, when i get home, and leave. Should I buy another G53SW adapter, or just use the G60JX adapters as extras since it's not a big deal? Thanks in advance. -

Hey I was wondering if anyone has Windows 7 32-bit drivers for the G53SW? I plan on dual-booting, due to some of my older games not liking x64. If you know of a place that has all the drivers, mainly graphics it will be greatly appreciated!
-
I had an i5 2410 G53SW-XA2, and that laptop came with a 120W adapter. The i7 2630QM G53SW-A1 I have now came with a 150W adapter since the TDP of the i7 is 10W higher than the TDP of the i5. Asus obviously thought that difference significant enough to upgrade the power adapter. -
Anyone have a backpack they can recommend? Thanks in advance.
Edit: So does that mean that if I use the old adapter, the worst case scenario is that the adapter breaks, not the laptop? If that's the case, then I may still take my chances... -
The G60jx adapter should work fine if you're only browsing the web or typing notes in class.
