But if you use your warranty on that and your computer actually breaks in the future, you would have already used up your warranty, right? Wouldn't that be a huge waste?
Maybe there's something about the warranty I do not understand.
-
-
-
-
Yes as long as you are still under warranty period and your damage is qualified as accidental.
-
And THAT jack will break in a month. And then you'll have to RMA it again. And Again. I JUST got my V4 monitor installed and the friggin' pin on the power jack came out AGAIN. -
Duskresiac : Wrong, Asus replaces it with a different jack now. ^^
I got a new one with a different pin, somehow hexagonal.
AND if you do it yourself, you'll lose your warranty so... -
Thanks to a duh moment from Chastity I figured it out that the problem is likely also due to the 90 degree connector. I'll give it a little time to check it out. Need to call company I bought 90 from and see if they will send a replacement connector.

I figured that one, it's the graphics driver's I'm more concerned about. I have problems with hacking the graphics drivers and if it wasn't for someone posting a link to Chasity's update page I would have been stuck with older gpu drivers. So I was just wondering if someone had already made something yet.
-
Alright, is seems I can only post questions, but here's another.
I'm hearing static from one of my earbuds(the right one) on my headphones. I tried reinstalling the realtek audio drivers, but it didn't help. I know it's the computer, since the headphones work fine on another computer, and I've tried it with two headphones so far. Anyone know what I can do about it? -
Hello everyone!
I have a few months old G53SW and I think I may have found something that no one has seen ever before. But if you have seen it, maybe you could tell me what's going on.
I don't want to make duplicate posts, so please check out this thread.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...5-asus-g53sw-wd-my-passport-black-screen.html
This is the reason why I registered here, to share this with you, and maybe find some answers. -
Edit:
Semi-related question:
I noticed there is a lot of bloat-ware, and have been thinking of doing a clean install of windows. Having a static problem, and a driver CD helps motivate me. However, I'd like to ask about the partition. If I do a clean install, will the partition be cleared of it's contents, or only the OS partition. If I don't have to move 200GB+ files back to my computer again, that would also be a huge motivator. -
you can choose to clear only the OS partition

Hi I'm trying to decide between a g53sw-a1 and an alienware m14x. Reviews for both are pretty positive, so I was wondering, how many people on this forum are having trouble with their g53's? Thanks!
-
I think the m14x can only go up tu GT555M, can't it?
If so, it's faaaar less powerful than the g53sw...
But it's also another level regarding the built quality, the screen quality, the keyboard with multicolors backlighting...
G53Sw :
Good overall quality (except screen), VERY good cooling system, very powerful.
M14x :
Better quality, good screen (i think, to be confirmed, but it's an AW), not very good performance (compared to the G53sw, the g53sw is a lot better in game), good cooling system since the card is not very powerful.
If you want to play a lot and need performance, go with the g53sw, it's cheap, it's your best bet.
If you want to try an AW to see the quality, take the m14x, but keep in mind that's NOT really a gaming laptop.
To me the real competitor in the AW family is the m15x.
You can put very good videocards in it, but it will cost you a lot more than the g53... The price for a high quality laptop.
If you have the money, take a m15x, with a GTX560, 570, or 6970/6990m.
Or take a Clevo. But both will do a little more noise than the g53, especially in idle. -
Hi Fendora thanks for the advice. Actually I'm not much into gaming, I just like the style and speed of gaming rigs. What do you think of the g53's keyboard? A lot of reviewers said it was cramped and unresponsive. Thanks!
-
The M14 also has a poor cooling system. AW went with a single fan design, and one of the two rear vents are just for decoration. The GT555m is a much weaker card than the GTX460m, so the laptop can manage on a single fan. But I would not call it a good cooling system.
As to the M15x, I am also not sure what cards are supported, but if you are planning on running anything that did not ship with it from Dell, you need BIOS mods. The M15x is discontinued though, and can be bought for pretty cheap now. -
Yes i heard too that AW quality is somehow declining a bit... :/
I don't understand the m14x, which is too heavy and has a poor autonomy compared to 13 inches laptop when the m15x or other 15 inches laptop are far better when it comes to gaming performances... -
I dont know if anyone can help, but I'm playing crysis on my g53sw xn1. I'm only getting 20 fps on 1920x1080 resolution with settings high. If I bring them down to medium settings at the same res, i get only 30 fps. I know I should be getting higher fps, so does anyone have some ideas?
-
By high you meant extreme? If yes then that sounds about right to me. Did you overclock or just run at stock?
-
no, by the game runs settings at very high, high, medium, etc. im running as stock as you can be.
I'm just wondering why i'm barely hitting 30 and others say they run games at 1920x1080 and all settings max'ed out -
There are high, very high, extreme, ultra. Can you list those others you mentioned? None of us here can max it out with playable 30FPS (on GTX 460M)
-
my copy of crysis 1 doesnt have extreme or ultra settings
-
Shoot! Sorry i thought you was talking about Crysis 2. But still, look at this for a reference on your possible performance on this particular game.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M - Notebookcheck.net Tech -
thanks. so for crysis 1, it says i should get 14 fps and im getting 20. not bad. so what i will have to do is lower resolution a bit to get good fps. btw, if anyone has played this game, its really unforgiving sometimes
-
Hi svcr0c0 thanks for your advice. Unfortunately none of my local pc shops have the g53sw-a1 or the m14x for me to look at in person, so I'm going by word of mouth so to speak. Thanks again!
-
I bought my G53SW-XA2 last August and have had a couple of problems.
After reopening the lid when the computer was hibernating, the computer lags (CPU shows 100% usage of one random core and goes back and forth between cores). When I try to restart or shut down, it stays on the "shutting down..." screen and then ends with this blue screen:
I tried reformating the computer. After getting all the drivers re-installed and the computer functioning the way it should be (buttons, etc), it still blue screened.
I tried resetting the BIOS. Still not luck.
I'm not sure what to do. I've been living with it (turning my computer off every time I get out of lecture), but I should get this fixed.
Another issue: Windows Updates won't install. SP1 refuses to install. Should I just download it from the net or do I need to configure something to get it to install. Could this be the blue-screening problem? -
Good luck! -

Hey all, I plan on buying these items for my G53SW:
Amazon.com: Right Angle 90 Degree Converter for 5.5 x 2.5mm Connector - LC53: Electronics
Amazon.com: A-Data USA Premier Series 4 GB DDR3 1333MHz PC-10666 SO-DIMM Memory Module 4 Not a kit (Single) AD3S1333C4G9-R: Electronics
Amazon.com: 6230 IEEE 802.11n (draft) Bluetooth 3.0 - Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Combo Adapter: MP3 Players & Accessories
(Wrong picture but it seems to be what I'm looking for.)
and
Amazon.com: Pwr+® Ac Adapter for Asus G71 G71g G71g-x1 G71gx G71gx-a2 G71gx-x2 G71v G72 G72g G72gx G72gx-a1 G73 G73jh G73jh-b1 G73jh-rbbx05 G73jh-x1 G73jw Adp-150nb D Ap.15001.001 Adp-150cb Pa-1700-02 Adp-65db Lc-t2801-006 Lc.t2801.006 Lc.adt01.001 A
I plan on swapping my ram around so I'll have 12GB and having a secondary power supply. I looked for an 180W for better stability on the power end, but couldn't find it. Also it doesn't mention the g53SW for the psu, but mentions the g73jh/jw so I figure it'd work as they used the same psu. (Unless I'm mistaken.) Looking at Amazon only as I have a card for them, so if you find or know of anything better in the way of psu please link it to me. Oh and due to the fact it seems to be iffy on the psu having a right angle I do plan on buying a second 90 degree adapter for the second psu. Let me know what you think and include links. Only looking at about $150-$170 after shipping. (Comes to $156 after shipping with what I found.) -
all is fine and good although I'd prefer Crucial RAM more (just personal preference)
The 6230 is great, thats all you need to know though I'd advise you to do a fresh windows install after installing it.
A backup PSU is understandable but a backup converter too? Thats a bit overkill (IMO).
No comment about the PSU but just in case you plan to get a 180W in the future, make sure the system can use the whole 180W 'cause I've read that for some machine you need to update BIOS or something first before it can consume that much power. -
Hello, I have the ASUS G53S-XN1 and I was wondering if anyone had problems when typing.
For example;
I dont like skipping letters when I type.
I dnt like skipping letters whn I type.
It's an example I purposely did to show my problem that occurs randomly. But thats pretty much my problem. For some reason on random occasions it tends to skip typing letters. It happens in games, notepad, websites, and even now. On every letter, including space bar.
Does anyone have this problem, can it be fixed? Or is it some kind of lag in the backround, idk. Could use some help, thank you. -
Hey guys, i am waiting for my asus g53sw-xn1 that should arrive today! Excited, and scared by the reviews of all the DOA, and dead after a few weeks....
I was just wondering if anyone has sleep/ hibernate issues when closing the lid?
I heard that some people are unable to put their laptops on hibernate because it will always turn to blue screen! That sounds horrible, because i always close the lid when i am away from my laptop, even for a few minutes.
If so, is there any way to fix the issue? -
defaut it should turn your computer to standby. No clue about hibernation though since thats what I disable first as soon as I open up a computer.
-
uhh...i just got the my g53.....and there is a 3 red lines on my screen. I tried to wipe it, and it just moved around close to that line. It is in the screen >_>.....guess i gotta send it back. Sigh....
-
-
man that sucks. but on the bright side at least a screen panel issue is easy to diagnose and a straightforward fix.
try low temp(47C-61C gpu, similar cpu temps) artifacts(green and or purple dots) in squarish clusters over the entire screen, at random, but it shows on external displays, and can be picked up in screenshots. ( g53sw-a1 graphical corruption - XOTICPC Forums with some pretty pictures)
something like that you *know* its gotta be a gpu issue, but still have to pray it shows up while the techs are watching. -
Three things made me already know something will go wrong, before starting up the machine.
1)They put it in a box with a thin long strip of paper bag paper, and call it "padding".
2)When the box arrived, the UPS guy dropped the box from waist height to the ground.
3) the newegg box was already pretty beat up, and i bet you i could have tore open the box with just one finger. The asus box was a little beat up too.
Talk about killing any hope of not getting a defective item. >_>
The three dotted red lines are kind of weird. It is on the inside, and i tried to wipe it with my micro fiber clothe. I can move the dots of the lines around, so they bulk up into one concentrated red dot near the line with a bigger radius. I would rather RMA it ( i think its worth the hassle, even though i am very disappointed that i cannot play with it over the weekend, and will probably have to wait till a week or two before i get another), and hopefully can ask them nicely to put some extra "padding"....Doubt it.....but worth a shot right? -
honestly you have the asus g series box, and usually just a cardboard spacer with the brown shipping box over it. if you got an -a1 version with backpack and mouse there's a slightly bigger brown overbox with the backpack and mouse box adding some padding, but its still pretty form fitting to the internal box. personally i think most of the knock and bang type handling is actually happening on newegg's end.
if you've ever walked into a microcenter or similar and observed a small child tossing boxed hdd about and a parent takes it away and sticks it back on the shelf like nothing happened... yeah you might never know til you bought it and opened it. either neweggs shipping center has a really laissez faire set of fedex/ups shipping locations who are rough, or their own warehousing staff isn't always treating em too well. has to be something.
of course watching the delivery man give it a two - three foot drop is a red flag too. don't know about your box but mine indicated fragile clearly, at which point i'd refuse delivery or file a complaint at the local office.
as to being able to push the display glitch around, ooph thats some kind of weird. almost sounds like somethings gotten in between the layers of the lcd panel itself, maybe an air gap. either way that's going to be a pop open the lid and replace the panel task.
if you really want to be extra sure it's the panel just hit printscreen button while in windows, open paint, and paste. if it appears in a printscreen it would appear on an external display, if it doesn't show in a printscreen it's a display or display cable type of thing.
not that i'd have to wonder if you can move it by touching the lcd itself
well on the upside asus support is cheap, easy, and newegg tries to make good too, so you have options.
now if only they could get instant matter teleportation working so there wasn't that minor "time without the machine" bit...
edit: i'd also recommend running seatools to check for hdd damage, and some stress tests and comparing temperatures to those seen by others on the forums. you never know what else might have been affected, that can be addressed in one service shipping. of course if you are going through newegg they will probably just ship another unit out, but if you opt to go through asus it would be worth having it all known. it's rare considering the volume they handle, but sometimes things happen during service shipping and repair jobs too. -
-
I have heard some pretty bad comments for asus services. Mainly, how it takes over a month of nagging them to even start working on repairs. And sometimes ship back with more problems, or not solve the problem at all. Yikes...
I think its safer and faster at this point, since i just purchased it to RMA with newegg itself.
As much as i would like to find out myself what the problem is, i rather not mess with it anymore. It is rather depressing to see such an awesome machine, but knowing that its going back .
I would love a matter teleporter, can sleep in an extra 20mins before school to skip the drive . Or go directly to newegg and make sure they handle my product with care!
Thanks for the tip on seatools. I will do that once i get a new one
Edit:
Amazing... i just RMA'ed my machine and the represenative was pretty careless. She just wanted to get things over with as quick as possible. First i stated how poor the packaging was regarding the machine itself. After i asked and allowed me to RMA, i wanted to ask another question regarding having extra padding when shipped.
She then asked " is there anything else i can help with"
I replyed " is there a way to make the RMA process faster by chance. Of course not...but worth a shot to ask right?
So after that i said " i have another concern regarding the shipping"
30seconds later, she says " glad i could be of service, have a nice day!"
In my mind i was thinking, " she can't be serious"......20seconds later, she closed the chat. -_________-.
She obviously was not even reading what i wanted to say after the RMA # was emailed, and just wanted to get another customer over with. I feel completely ignored!
Starting to regret buying from newegg at all. Amazon's live chat services are on another level compared to them. -
yeah xoticpc is who i went with and going through a known reseller like them feels like it makes all the difference. without that trusty lifeline, you are at the mercy of chance for what call center/chat personell you get on the far end.
got my last system( asus m50sv) through a microcenter at retail, found i was lied to as to service, that they were not in fact authorized so my asus warranty was invalid, and a slew of other misery. not to mention with places like gentech or xotic you actually see them providing and participating in places like this forum which provides another contact point, and lets you get to know they aren't the random guy doing his 9-5 somewhere in the world and trying to get out and forget the day as it happens.
love newegg, but honestly if its not a corporate purchase, fully insured shipping, or an it doesn't matter type of item i don't even consider using them anymore. -
Hey guys does anyone know if my Asus g53SW has the second hdd caddy installed without me pulling it apart to check? I'm thinking of buying a ssd to add but don't want to pull it apart only to see no caddy installed. I also hear it's a bit of a pain to install, I know the ram was when I added more.
-
where did you buy it from? and the 3 digits code behind do you remember them? XA1, XR1, XN1 or A1 etc. someone who bought the XR1 in the beginning of this thread claim they dont have the caddy, but most people here do. Check if you have the 4 screws with the manual, if they do then 99% the caddy is already inside.
-
I got the LC53 right hand connecter today shipped from Bixmart.. Now waiting for the laptop to come... 3 to 4 more days to go.. The Pain!!
BTW can someone gimme a link to a small wired extension connector that connects the lc53 to the actual power adapter. the reason am asking this is because am still paranoid that even with the LC53 connected it would still break the connector joint if enough tension is applied. So with the extension cord the tension on the LC53 and subsequently the power connecter on the mother board, gets considerably reduced.
Also has anyone, who is using the LC53 connecter, broken the power connecter.
Peace. -
Easy, just get a second LC53 =)
-
^^ Now why did i not think about that Lol..
-
Hey guys, I just want to ask something..
I got my g53sw-xr1 abt 2 weeks ago, and when I play crysis my max GPU temp reaches 85 C (without OC) is it normal?
also I'm new into everything abt laptops
any suggestions abt what I should do with my g53sw? any answers would be appreciated...
Sorry for my bad English -
-
stock paste and clocks g53sw-a1. ambient of 60-75F (~16-25C doing mental math). 12gb ram( theoretically slight heat increase in case). gpu temperatures are generally close across driver versions 267.xx, 280.26, 285.xx, and a few others. current results are specifics from 285.38 which is the latest beta driver. machines being rma'd tomorrow(monday) if all goes well due to a side issue.
gpu:
deus ex human revolution- maxes at 78C no AA, 82C full AA fhd resolution, everything on including dx11.
same for space marine.
idle at desktop with classic theme(no aero) and only systray apps running(threatfire, nvidia thingy, ms security essentials, synaptics tray, realtek tray, wireless console, power, network, and volume ms apps, clock.(so nothing running is clearly defined) temps range 46-58C
vlc 1.1 - tvhd(north american) resolution video playpack in maximized window with 1920x1080 desktop resolution - 58-64C
(which is strange as vlc doesn't enable gpu acceleration by default, and i checked).
furmark 640x480 noAA burn in test - hit 93C with meter beginning to waffle between 93 and 94 when test was manually aborted after a few minutes due to thermal level observed.
other users report performing same test with stable steady state gpu temperatures of 85C after half hour runs. my tests were all 9 minutes or less.
occt- gpu test results confirm temp range and slow climb above 90 of ~1degree C per minute of test length, on average.
cpu:
generally 40-60C almost irregardless of load.
exception - occt cpu test, throttlestop benchmark 1024, prime95 burn in tests.
prime 95 8 core test actually showed thermal throttling with a max instantaneous temperature of 96C. for reference thermal shutdown for 2630QM should occur at 100C. hardwired throttling down occurs at 95C.
----------------
bear in mind there's something wonky with my unit as it will go gpu unstable(3d/flash/video may trigger tdr events, or hard lock the system requiring forced shutdown) and artifact idling at the windows desktop, in expressgate, or linux as well. so my sample may not be the best. i just know its a pain in the backside trying to dig out the temperature posts for this machine and figure out which ones are oc'd, repasted, etc etc.
ought to be a thread made somewhere with a form for reporting temps for reference. -

Hey all, I'll be upgrading my lappy to 16GB
Amazon.com: Corsair 8 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory Kit CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9: Electronics
Have 2 sets on the way. From what I could surmise this is the correct type.
I also ordered the Intel 6230 since I wanted to keep my bluetooth, as well as a 90 degree adapter (2x one for my original and one for the new psu) Gonna use the new one for a desktop setting so I don't have to keep packing my psu.
Link to new psu: Amazon.com: Pwr+® Ac Adapter for Asus G51 G51jx-x3 ; G53 G53sw G53sx G53jw-3de G53jw-xa1 G53jw-xn1 G53jw-xt1 ; G71 G71gx ; G72 G72gx ; G73 G73jh-bst7 G73jh-x5 G73jhrf-bst7 G73jw-a1 G73jw-rog G73jw-xn1 G73sw G74sx G74sx Vx7 Laptop Power Supply Cord No
