"Bad_pool_header" could also be the RAM problem, if you know how to remove the RAM on G53JW you can try remove one stick of RAM to test.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for your help, I will first test to see if the nvidia driver update would solve it. I am still waiting to hear back with help on how to update the driver.
Questions, does accessing your ram and removing it voids the warranty?
Thanks -
2nd time in under 6 months of owning the thing, the power pin fell out again!
I just better get it back before portal 2 is released! grrrr
Are other people having the problem? repeatedly? or am I just being to rough moving my laptop 6 inches across my desk? -

@coxxxy I don't read about it every day here but it is mentioned somewhat frequently that the DC jack is prone to breakage. You might want to buy a right angle adapter for it since I think that's really the major complaint. Having a right angle plug relieves a lot of the stress that's put on the jack itself from the cable.

So I posted a while back saying the AC connector pin in my G53Jw had broken, which I've seen happen to a bunch of other people here. The Asus repair centre in Japan (where I was at the time) initially refused to repair it under warranty. After a lot of angry phone calls and a lot of emails exchanged with Asus customer support in Taiwan they finally agreed that the repair would be covered by my warranty. It took me almost six weeks to resolve that issue, and it was another three weeks before I FINALLY got my G53Jw back.
Obviously after getting it back in early March I was super careful with the connector, tried to make absolutely sure I put no undue pressure on the connection, etc, etc.
Saturday morning I woke up to find that my laptop was out of power. THE PIN HAD BROKEN AGAIN. I took it in to the repair centre in Melbourne, Australia yesterday and they told me it would be 14-21 days before I got it back. I'm glad I didn't have to go through the same warranty argument again, but this is absolutely ridiculous: I'm spending almost as much time without my new laptop as with it.
I'm careful with my computers. I'm currently posting from my old Asus G1 which is perfectly functional after over 4 years of use. The laptop I had before that served me well for almost 8 years before I replaced it last May. But I'm now seriously worried that this problem with the G53Jw will just keep happening, no matter how gentle I am with it :/ -

As you can see the male pin is very snug in the female end of the AC cable, having snapped right off of the motherboard. The male pin was only attatched by an incredibly skinny bit of metal.
I've bought a right-angled adaptor off eBay but I'm still seriously unimpressed that I should even need to order something like that to get my laptop to function as it should :/ -
-
The Melbourne repair centre has my laptop and cable at the moment, waiting for them to sort it out. Would rather not mess with this rubbish myself as long as it's covered by warranty.
-
BTW I'm already registered mine with ASUS -
I lost my original invoice too, but I emailed XoticPC and they sent me a pdf copy. I showed it to the repair centre guy before he could ask for it, but it seemed like all he wanted to know was where the computer was bought.

Proud Asus G53JW owner today! Though i have not opened it yet, UPS says its been delivered to my apt. Cant wait to get home and get this bad boy running!
I currently own a Toshiba A665 Satellite, which has a PhenomII p920 and a HD 5650, from the research i did, my new laptop is gonna kick its !!! -
Congrats!
Anyways, I had the green g53 bag, but now I have the black g73 bag.
Green bag
+zipper handle thing metal
+More padding on the shoulders
Black bag
+Bigger
+Simple clean black steath look, perfect with laptop
-Padding on shoulder strap sucks -
So i got some games going on it (crysis 2, AC: Brotherhood etc.) Installed new nvidia drivers. The only thing i noticed was that the sound quality seems a bit off on the laptop, i dno i maxed the sound out but it sounds a bit screechy, also i cant hear the subwoofer kick in? Do i have to enable it somehow?
-
yeah i thought the sound was quite weak also...

Yeah I don't think the G53 has a subwoofer, but I've never owned one to know for sure.

Asus has released an updated bios: version 211. As usual, their release note is extremely descriptive. It says "firmware change".
-
yeah flashed it without any probs
-
I just updated BIOS. no issues to report. Didnt improve anything that I can tell.
-
Does anyone know of other backpacks that fit the g53? Thanks
-
I have an old Targus TSB212 that "holds" the G53JW and will zip shut... whether or not it "fits" is a matter of opinion. The elastic band that is supposed to hold the laptop in place is too short for the G53JW, and the top of the bag itself stretches around the corners of the laptop.
It works for me - I just have to be aware that the corners might be at risk along the top. I would say this is as small as you could go with a backpack. Definitely get a bigger one if you can. -
So now i have been gaming for a couple of days, what are your guys avg gpu temps, I oc'ed mine to 800/1600/1350. They were on avg about 85F reaching 90F today. Is that too high? And i havent been playing on my lap but on a wooden table. Am i at risk of burning out my GPU?
-
85'F'? It should be celcius .. Anyway what's your ambient temperature? Am running my laptop in stock clocks and getting 75-85C, but it has never gone above 85C but the ambient temperature in india is high around 27-30C .. am also using a wooden table.. Basically since the laptop sucks in the air from bottom and releases it in the rear, i think wooden table will not do any harm to the laptop!

Hu guys, regarding my previous issue with laptop freezing while hardcore gaming, i think it could have just been because I was hooking my laptop up to my lcd tv hdmi. I updated nvidia drivers as you suggested and I tried again recently to play for more than an hour with hdmi on tv and there werent issues.
HOWEVER, I have been having an issue with something else these days. Its making me hate my laptop. The problem is: after having it on for more than 10 hours on lowest power4gear (battery saving) mode, while plugged, the laptop just freezes, the screen turns black and the fans start to kick faster and louder.
When I try to restart it, it wouldnt boot, no asus logo, it would just show black screen and fans kick up high again, so I have to hard switch off.
I give it sometime, depending on how long, I can get it to boot but if I didn't give it a long time to rest after the freezes it would freeze after a couple of minutes after I log in and the loop continues.
Please help me with this, my laptop is getting super moody.
Cheers -
Does anyone know if the G53-jw A1 motherboard supports 6Gbps SATA?
Looking at a vertex 3 if the unit can reap the benefits of the new tech...
Cheers -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, the JW will not support SATA III, only SATA II. The SW versions are Sandy Bridge which is the first laptop platform to support SATA III.
-
Thanks Donald,
Looks like i'll stick my Gskill phoneix in there then...
Cheers -
Did anyone ever track down a L/90 degree adapter for the Power connector for this laptop? I just got my laptop back from Asus because it snapped the pin on the inside. I searched these forums but couldn't come up with anything. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it.
-
I'm using this one... love it.
-
Dumb question, never used a webcam before, can't find any controle for this one....where is it?
-
Where does one get a blueray drive for a G53.
doesn't have to be writer.. just reader combo is fine.
Is it generic and you just change the face or do you need to order special? -
sometimes it takes less than 5 hours to have the laptop get moody and not want to turn on again, it only works when i come back from work the next day. I am planning on updating the BIOS, but I am still a noob on that, I would appreciate if someone can guide me or suggest any solutions for this issue.
Thanks guys. -
is 92 degrees safe during gaming? i have overclocked it to 750/1350

Hey guys, so far am super happy with my laptop and playing everything maxed out at stock clocks.. I have two problems though.. 1)Everytime i switch on my laptop and load windows, the bluetooth works fine, but after half an hour or so(didnt notice time time) suddenly my bluetooth tray disappeared.. And running the widcomm bluetooth software from the program files folder didnt do anything.. Bluetooth is switched on in the wireless console but the application doesn't run.. I need to restart my laptop to use bluetooth again.. :-(please help..
2)my usb ports are very sensitive in the sense even with slightest disturbance, anything connected in the usb gets disconnected and then reconnected again.. Any solutions? -
2) This is a cause of the USB port having a bad connection between the USB port and the motherboard.
Most USB ports on laptops are soldered directly to the motherboard. If you use USB ports a lot, overtime the solder joints between the port and the motherboard can get cracked and the port loses contact with the motherboard.
Since your computer is new, I would try RMA and see if you can't get a new unit, as there may have been some issues with the production of your laptop. -

So i bought my laptop from Newegg and it came with 4gigs for RAM. Do i really need to upgrade to more right now? Im not sure of any games that benefit from having more than 4 gigs of ram as of now.
-
The only time I've ever pushed the memory limit of my 6GB version is when I load some virtual machines [within virtual machines ]. -
So, uh... I just bought a G53SW-XN1 model, am I allowed in this thread? I have the basic specs in my sig.
Really excited about it, though. I purchased it from newegg earlier this week, and it should get here on Friday. Only cost $1200, too, which seems pretty reasonable considering that the only difference in terms of specs between that and the A1 is 6GB of RAM instead of 8GB to start with, and a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive instead of the 750GB one. Oh, and it doesn't come with a backpack and Razer mouse, but that's okay 'cos I've already got a backpack and a Razer mouse xD
Wish me luck, fellas, I am finally entering the world of legitimate PC gaming for the first time in my life! ^___^ -
i just bought a G53JW through amazon the 1379.99 version and i was wondering which wireless card would be a good replacement for the stock one. i was looking at the intel 5300 and 6200 on amazon but they were different shapes and since i don't have my laptop yet i can't compare to see which i need. any help would be appreciated
-
-
the one i included below looks to have the same connectors as the 6200 and virtually the same price do yo think it will fit in there?

BTW here's the 6200 card -
