If you want to check temps then run furmark benchmarking tools.

Questions for you guys regarding ram, I have searched but couldn't find any good answers.

    1) For G53JW-A1 owners, do you have 3 sticks of 2gb ram? That would mean there is 2gb in that "hidden" slot. This assumes you have the A1 version with 6gb of ram.

    2) If so, wouldn't 3 sticks disable any dual channel effect? Does it matter?

    3) If I have a G53JW-XN1 (comes with 4gb), I assume 2gb in hidden slot, and 2gb in one of the others...is this configuration in dual channel?

    Many Thanks for any responses

AFAIK, All G53jw/sw models have 4 slot rams.

    1. The A1 Models does have 2gb rams on the 3 slots so you have 1 more free available slot.

    2. No. It won't disable the 2x2 gb dual channel configuration just leaving the other banks on a single channel config. Think you gain 5% from dual channel config. Read more here

    3. Think its on a dual config really depends on the manufacturer. Best is to check with Cpu-z

I received my G53JW-A1 about a week ago and have finally been able to kick the tires.

The build quality and design are very good. Although on the larger side it doesn't feel too heavy. The separate number pad is a huge plus, usually only found on 17"+ laptops.

My order included the green backpack and Mobkul mouse. The quality of the backpack is good but it seems to be a bit small for this laptop. The mouse is pretty nice, the HP drivers worked perfectly. It has a good feel and the multiple resolution settings are great.

I'm very happy with my purchase, the only thing I regret was not going through one of this sites sponsors/vendors.

I also ordered the right angle power plug adapter which is a great upgrade.

I'm looking at the OGIO Privateer backpack, which should have plenty of room for this laptop.

@jack_burton congrats on your purchase! Welcome to our lounge!
Guys its very difficult to get that right angled adaptor in india so am having a tough time with the power plug.. Am having two problems now
    1) the left edge of the keypad ie left of caps lock, tab and shift button has a noticeable keyboard flex.. :-( is it just me or everyone having the same problem?
    2) i was playing nfs hp full hd maxed out settings on battery on high performance mode.. After the charge dried out without warning the system got switched off.. I can restart only after some ten minutes charging the laptop.. Though if i remove the battery and put it back again it gets started immediately! What problem do i have?

Thanks! :) Bixnet has the right angle adapters on Ebay (Search for '5.5 x 2.5mm Connector - LC53'). India isn't on their exception list for shipping, I would message them and see what they say.

Initially i thought that battery might be defective.. So i played a hd movie on battery high performance mode and as soon as the power reached 7% windows 7 hibernated and after i plug it to ac, windows 7 resumed.. The problem only comes when i am gaming! Which mouse is better? Abyssus or the mobkul?

I have been using the Mobkul for a week or two and it performs quite well. I have experienced the 'double clicking' problem, due mostly to me leaving the mouse cable coiled up. I also experienced some drifting yesterday but re-seating the mouse corrected the problem.

Definitely scope out youtube, I have only seen walk a through for HDD and memory replacement/upgrade.

Hey guys, I own a G53JW-A1 that I've purchased about a month ago. I've been looking to upgrade it with a SSD ever since buying it, but I have a few questions.

Would I have to buy my own bracket or mounting thing for the SSD? Would I order from ASUS, and does it have to be specifically made for G53JW (ie by Asus)?

When you have the battery in the laptop, and the AC Adapter is plugged into the outlet, it will charge the battery whether the laptop is on or off. Makes no difference.

Got my G53JW-A1 last week from an ASUS official dealer here in Italy, not a web bargain (1.550€) but i need to see a real human being for assistance, just in case :)

I'm not a real gaming enthusiast but i was able to play Assassin's Creed II on my full hd 42" panel at full detail, amazing.

I'm into graphic design and I bought it because i need a reliable machine able to support multitasking professional sw such as CS5 premium suite. Dell's workstations are great but too expensive and I'm not sure that working on After Effect with a 512mb Quadro is better than a 1,5gb Fermi Nvidia :)

Now I'm waiting for a Coolux Pandoras Box offline manager key and I'm planning to use it as manager/player in Dataton Watchout too. Both of them are professional mediaserver systems made for multi screen projections used in live events such as corporate, theatrical or musical. If anyone is interested in this particular applications for the G53 I'll be testing it next week on an architectural full hd projection with 3D realtime models embedded, just ask.

Sadly I discovered that It doesn't fit my Eastpack backpack, just bought a really well made Samsonite Network backpack , fits perfectly, price correct and weights only 0.5kg!

That's all, thanks to everyone for all useful infos i read on this forum from an unusual but enthusiast G53 Owner

Don't worry about the battery, you don't need to discharge the battery, just leave it plugged in, it doesn't matter.

@agent.zero - The laptop only comes with (1) hdd caddy. You can order one from Asus but make sure it is specifically for the G53. The G73 won't work due to a difference in chassis design.

@anuragsodhi - I second leaving it plugged in. The laptop will stop charging after the battery reaches 100% capacity.

Okay thanks a lot, the HDD caddy will work with any SDD's right? Or would I have to get a SDD that comes specifically with a mounting kit for latpops?

SSD's are 2.5" so they will fit any laptop that uses that size drive. Check out the HDD upgrade guide by bendok at the beginning of this thread for the walk through on adding an SSD without an extra caddy.

Well, after lurking around this site for a month or so, I've finally ordered a G53JW-XN1, it should be here Monday! What are some things I should do when I get it to show myself how awesome it really is? I haven't had a computer capable of gaming in about 6 years, so I have a ton of catching up to do.

I agree, start by updating the video drivers. Also do the following (as with all new computers)
    1. Uninstall unnecessary programs
    2. Turn off system processes you don't need
    3. Disable any non-essential start-up items in MSconfig

    Hey guys,

First, I would like to thank all of you who always try to help ppl out in this forum. I have been following it for the last 5 years and it has provided me help in many things.

I have an Asus G53JW-A1 and I am so proud of it :D
IT can run COD:BO, Assasin's creed brotherhood, crysis warhead, need for speed etc etc. ON MAXIMUM RESOLUTIONS with no lags.

However, I enjoy playing for an hour then suddenly the game freeezes for about 10 second then laptop sometimes switches off or give me blue screen saying "Bad_pool_header".

When I try to switch it on, it would say something like "Vendor and Device IDs do not match" and sometimes gives me another BSOD error saying "Machine_Check_Exception"

So the laptop won't turn on until i have given it 5 minutes to rest then it would work fine.

I am running W7 x64 and have the following driver:
    8.17.12.6099 - nVIDIA ForceWare 260.99

I did not download the newer BIOS since people are not finding any good news about it. I don't know if the nvidia driver version I have is the problem or not, since this only happens when i have gamed for more than an hour.

I appreciate all your help guys. I really want to enjoy gaming on weekend as its the only time i get to play and not work :s

    Cheers.

Sounds like overheating to me, the G53 run a little hotter than G73, but should still be fine to handle gaming for hours. Are you playing on your lap? or on the bed?

Download GPUz, run it, go to the sensor tab and enable both bottom options, the go play and try to post the log to see how high the gpu is going.

Also try the newest nvidia drivers, link in my sig.

Too bad man.. I think you got a lemon.. Because i have been playing for atleast 6 hours straight and havent even experienced any lag in the performance.. Try updating your gpu drivers to the latest 267.xx.. If it does not help, try doing a clean install of your os, Then run furmark extreme burn, if it runs good, then probably your laptop is good to go.. Else send it for RMA.. Does this bsod happens with the same game or it happens randomly?

Thanks for your response Abula, I played with it while its on a wooden table. I remember the temp of the laptop was close to mid 80's while i was playing black ops, then when i started Assasin's creed brotherhood, it took 5 minutes in game to freeze like that.

This freeze happens when i play games, not anyone in specific.

    Thanks for your response.

I will try downloading the new nvidia driver 267.76.

Could you please give me a guide on how to do the proper removal of current driver and installing the new one. (using any programs, going in safe mode, etc)

Appreciated, if it's fixed, I owe you lots of appraisal!
