    @the[r] - thanks. That would be great.

    @ulags - yes I played it. It runs fine. There are multiple video settings. Like gamer, hardcore and something else. I forgot. Originally I was on hardcore or something, and I switched it to gamer mode. I think it ran a little smoother. Hope tha helped

    I've used linux on this machine, and ended up removing the whole partition and installing windows professional N. Linux doesn't work to well with this machine, Ubuntu found the graphics driver and that was it. None of the keyboard hotkeys work except for volume. You can't change screen brightness or light up the keyboard without writing a script to get them to cooperate.

    I wouldn't recommend Linux unless you really know what you're doing.

    @ice2642 AFAIK for the G53 there is no way to keep the keyboard backlight on until the driver has loaded.

    @Fragviper check out the keyboard backlight scripts here.

    For the brightness, I think all you need is an option in your xorg.conf or xorg.conf.d for the proprietary nvidia driver:
    Code:
    Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
    See [ubuntu] Laptop Display Brightness - Ubuntu Forums via http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...ux-driver-i-need-your-help-4.html#post7194651.

    Besides that if you have any problems with hotkeys or whatnot I can try and work through them with you (or anyone else) who needs help with linux.

    Have anyone seen the bfbc3 demo? Do you think the 460M GTX could handle it on high settings?

    @blackjack
    Just checking all possible options :p

    still would like a little insight as what i should be expecting to do to my machine when i unbox it, i personally don't want to do a clean install my main concern will be the bios/vbios, do i need to update the vbios? and if so what vbios should i be updating to. i know i shouldn't update the bios unless i run into a problem that the bios fixes(dont fix whats broken right) lol.

    I've had the G53JW-A1 for a couple of days now and overall I'm pretty happy with it. When I ordered it I found out that there's a $100 asus rebate going on for the month of March..the rebate only applies to the A1 model, but it actually made it cheaper than the XA1 version.

    I would not upgrade the bios unless it is to resolve a specific problem that the newer bios fixes. I think you answered your own question.

    I did the clean install after an Asus backup to 5 dvds. I also kept the hidden restore partition for convenience, but repartioned C: and D: 40/60 ratio. Reduced the active processes from 90+ to about 60.

    Hello,

    I'm considering either a Sager NP8130 or an Asus G53 to replace my Sandybridge HP DV6 that I have until April 30th to return.

    I was wondering if the Asus customer support is really as bad as I've read? I'm worried about buying Asus because of this. I was also wondering about the placement of the power port. Being in the middle of the right hand side it seems like it would get in the way of the mouse. Is this a problem for people using this laptop?

    Does anyone know when Asus will be refreshing their machines with Sandybridge i7's?

    Thanks

    My G53JW-A1 came with the very cool Asus Mokbul ROG mouse like the one in the g73JH.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/467968-new-mouse-asus-g73jh-a1.html

    I am using a 90 degree adaptor for my power cord :
    LC53 - Right Angle 90 Degree Converter for 5.5x2.5mm Connector I got from bixmart.com.

    I also have the mouse plugged into one of the usb ports on the right side.

    Works great no issues...

    We all pay the same money and its not fair that someone gets the new g73 backpack and someone else getting the old g51jx backpack the same goes with the mouse someone getting the abyssus and some others getting the mobkul.. :-( whats the reason for this? May be ken, donald or justin will have the right explanation for this!

    talked to brett@xoticpc and he said if were not receiving the g73 backpack/mouse with our g53 shipment its because of stock issues from asus, not the best explanation but its better than none

    yeah, on the asus store those backpacks are sold out..but Justin@xotic said that they carry both bags, it just depends on what you get shipped.

    So my g53 came with the older g1 rog green bag, and the abyssus mouse... The abyssus was nice, but I would rather get the mobkul.

    But those issues do not matter anyways, I sent my bag back go xotic to exchange for the g73 rog black bag, and I bought a wireless mouse.

    o btw, I bought the 90 degree adapter. Works great.

    Right side get bit hot due to HDD. BTW those switches back at the mouse is most likely for dpi setting. Best thing to do is go to razer website and download latest drivers/manual.

    @Bigspin
    afaik the right side of the keyboard gets warm because of the 460MGTX underneath and on the left side is the processor.

    @blackjack
    I remember I received mine 2-3 weeks after I mailed them the requirements.

    I sent my ADW paperwork to:

    Is this the address that everyone else sent theirs to? ...Any issues?

    Played nfs hot pursuit in max settings in full hd! This machine runs like a charm... :) temperature on full load 69 degree C.. Stock clocks.. This is my first full hd screen and am absolutely blown away by the quality.. I do accept that there is some light bleed and average viewing angles but its still a great screen! Battery lasts 2 hours 30 minutes in battery saving mode.. Created recovery dvds, and partitioned the hard drive.. Am soo excited! Proud g53 owner.. Going to do the vinyl mod to the lid! Hope everything ll go fine..

    great! I seriously recommend you to get the g73 backpack as i feel the green backpack is very tight fit.. Also get a vinyl sheet if you dont like smudging your notebook!
    Guys Since we have the fullhd screen, the movies which are in 720x480 resolution(divx) is not looking good with this screen.. Is there some way to rectify this?

    [removed by mod]

    That being said, there is no way to regain the data that was lost during compression. The most you can do is try to find a player that upscales as best as possible. My suggestion would be to download the K-Lite Mega Codec pack if you haven't already and play your DivX videos using the included player.

Didnt notice the fps but i can say for sure that it ran pretty smoothly! I can say it as having around 25-30fps and it looked awesome.. And everything runs in stock clocks, 266.58 drivers, peak GPU temperature 67C

    congrats! Dont forget to register for ADW! And even i got the green backpack i love the bag except for the fact that the laptop is a little bigger for the backpack! Where do you live in india? I am from chennai! Get ready with some good games! And do you plan on buying the right angled connector? If so any idea of where to get it in india?
    played 8+ hours of anno 1404(full hd max settings), crysis(high settings, full hd), hawx(max settings full hd) and still the peak temperature is 85C.. Am i pushing my laptop to its limits? If i play for like 8 hours a day, with temperatures wobbling around 70-80C for the gpu, what lifetime can i expect from my laptop?

    Really depends on where you live. If you're on a tropical / hot places then 85-90 would be the norm. Somewhere cold maybe less 5-10C.

    @Ulag
    For lifetime really depends on the owner. If you clean it up and care for it maybe 5+ years.

    @Ulags
    Well I'm from Guam outside temps are around 31-35C when I'm inside with aircon its around 25-30C the 460GTX idles at 60C~63C. Think it's pretty normal to hit 85C when playing games the good thing is that the laptop have an excellent cooling system.

    Think the video card is rated somewhere 100C ~105C ? before throttling down. But to be on the safe side I always put a fan on the right side or in front keeps helps to lower the temps (Less 5-10C)

    Problem is that you need to check for dust buildup and regularly clean your laptop.

    @the(r) man why do they ship the laptop with that backpack still? I mean the backpack is soo nice but i feel the laptop is a little bigger for the bag! Am already getting scratches in the bag because of it:-( leave it! Welcome to the club! Am sure you ll be a proud g53 owner! :)
    @darkseig- my gpu is idling at 49-55 degrees.. And i guess 85C is the temperature where the fan kicks in coz everytime i notice, temperature slowly creeps up to 85c and then comes down to as low as 70 degrees!
