The major flaw in the design is that it uses thick plastic to keep strength across the surface rather than using another material. so all the components of the laptop are stowed inside a bit of depth in order to be accessed. This is only a problem for the pin, but a minor hassle for other connectors.

    Hello everyone,

I picked up a G53jw-a1 with SSD from Powernotebooks back in January and I had a non-working touchpad which I finally fixed by accessing the touchpad connector and re-seating a loose connection. However, before doing so I performed a clean install of the OS and all the drivers with the included Asus Drivers CD thinking the touchpad had some kind of driver issue.

    Here's my problem:

After doing the clean install of the OS and all the drivers, my sound quality and volume has become significantly deteriorated. It's both lower in volume and tinnier as if not all of the speaker(s) are working properly.

What can I do? I've boosted the volume using the Realtek mixer to amplify the volume but it's still weak compared to the sound quality I got before.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Just an update for who's interested.
I bricked my ASUS g53jw-a1 a month ago updating the bios by extracting it to a temp folder on my hard disk.
I received a new G53jw unit yesterday and I updated sucessfully the 209 bios to the 210 bios by extracting it to a FAT32 usb pen drive and using EasyFlash in BIOS.
So for everyone, update your bios through a USB pen drive and not from Hard Disk. It worked for me.
    Hope this helps somebody

Use micro fibre cloth with lens cleaning spray (I use the same spray to clean the screen which is given by my optician)

why is that xoticpc is giving 45$ backpack and power-notebooks 65$.. this is not fair.. which one is default one with g53..(the one promoted by asus for g53)?

Actually G53's are coming with both, some come with the Black Backpack as seen with the G73's and some are coming with the Green one. We have seen both and it varies. :( Unfortunately ASUS is providing both with the G53 at this time.

Does registering for the accidental damage warranty also register for the 2 year parts and labor coverage?

That seems not right? Think the green bag is smaller?

    @blackjack
Yep think so based on the email I received. You must register within 60 days and some retailers don't carry the ADW such as Best Buy.

Not sure if you are talking about Accidental Damage Warranty but it must be register within 60 days, but you can still try call Asus to register by phone.

@Darksieg The laptop fits in the bag fine, I guess ASUS must have had some extra Green Bags and started integrating those with the G53's. We are seeing both in the shipments we have on hand.

    Greetings All,

I am expecting delivery of my g53 this Wednesday.

    ASUS G53JW-A1
Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz Processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
    6MB Cache 6GB DDR3 1333MHz SDRAM 750GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    15.6" FHD LED Backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M Graphics with 1.5GB GDDR5 Video Memory
2-Year Limited Global Warranty, 1-Year Accidental Damage Warranty
    backpack + mouse etc....

I have been reading about the bloatware it comes with and have pretty much decided to do a fresh Win7 install when it I get it.

Should I bother to create restore disks beforehand?
Is the Asus Restore tool any good?
I have Norton Ghost (Symantec) v12 for Vista/Win7 which can create a compressed system image to a network drive or hard drive.

Kinda on the fence about the value of having a "factory" image to restore from. The only thing I can think of is for future resale b/c I will never use it.

Also WRT the g53 weight, I thought you all could use a laugh, my old laptop is a Dell Latitude CSx(i got for free). It weighs 7 lbs! Pentium III
500 Mhz, 513MB Ram, 80gb HDD nicknamed "Weezy" due to its anemic cpu fan that runs while doing something as simple as watching a You Tube video!

    Eric

Unfortunately we don't sell all systems custom, so allot of the time we ship the box sealed on a stock model. I understand not liking the look of the green one.

I finally decided on the G53JW-A1. Send my order through B&H and got a great deal with free shipping and $100 Asus rebate. :D

I also ordered a OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD (199.99 on amazon) which should be here by Friday. I was looking at the Intel SSD but the 120GB is more then I wanted to spend. I know most people recommend the Intel, I hope I have a good experience with the OCZ.

I'd at least like to know why they haven't said anything on it, probably to get people to buy the more expensive g73sw first. :(

I loaded Win 7 Pro on my XA1 without any issues. FWIW, I did a complete wipe, to include removing all partitions on the HDD, and added an SSD.

I ran SC2 in 1920x1080 on max settings and it may get a little choppy when the map first loads and if you have a screen full of units, but otherwise it's pretty smooth. My friend damn near crapped his pants when I showed him how well it was running on a laptop.

Well, mine was custom, and I received the green bag. You guys should add a preference choice of backpacks in the customization option on the laptops.

Anyways, after a while, the green bag doesn't look so bad. It has grown on me, but I shipped it back to xotic pc today. =p I talked with one of the sales rep that helped me while I was purchasing my laptop, and he was able to set up an exchange for me. The exchange is being processed as an RMA. The only downside is that I have to pay for shipping...both ways. O well I'd rather have the black bag anyways..

anuragsodhi, have you received ur g53 yet? If so, which bag did you get?
