Is there any way to make the fan go at maximum speed all of the time?

I don't like watching my GPU go to 85C, and then crawl to 90C.
And notebook coolers don't seem to do anything for it.

And also, I seem to be getting scores of around 31k for the CPU in 3dmark vantage performance.
    Anything wrong there?

Just got a new G53J not too long ago and it works great but it freezes up sometimes. Right before freeze up I think the sound dim, I remember reading somewhere that the sound drivers are borked and needs to be removed?

I use a turtle beach headset so it automatically installed drivers or something when I plugged it into the USB port.

Does anyone use Power4Gear power modes? My G53 Freezes every time I use one for more than about 5 minutes. Even when it boots with one, my system totally stops working.

Power4gear high performance is the one button overclocking mode that just increases the speed of the first core of your processors, correct? If not, what is the difference between power4gear high performance and normal High performance mode?

Haven't seen anyone configure it to 100%. Seems it's bios/system locked. Try updating your drivers (Motherboard/GPU etc) seems the score is borked. is the vantage updated? Try also the New 3dMark 2011.

The only way available for now is SetFsB. Bios overclocking seems disabled.

Try Reinstalling P4G? Haven't encountered any problems using it. A little better than Windows own Power Management.

Check Asus Store? or the resellers here?

Is there anything special about the memory in the G53JW? I wanted to add an additional 2gb bringing it up to 8gb total, but 3 different so-dimms did not work in the G53jw. After installing, laptop will power on for a few seconds and then power off. Any advice on what memory is compatible?

    Thanks

As long as all SODIMM modules are DDR3 1333Mhz, I don't think you have problem with different memory brand modules.

BTW make sure you connect those modules correctly, sounds like incorrectly fitted module cause laptop to turn off.

Google for a custom hotkey program of some sort. I'm sure there's one out there. When you find it, could you report back? :p

    Haha. That's pretty funny.

I can't remember which brand, but their newer laptops, you have to hold Ctrl+FN in order to access those keys. I think it's either HP or Dell. Prolly the HP's at Bestbuy that I was testing out. = BS. What's wrong with these manufacturers? Jeez.

I'm pretty sure someone has most likely answered this already, but does the g53 come with a media player that can play blu ray videos? Not a drive that can burn blu rays but just a program that can play blu ray video files?

The ASUS G53JW-3DE does, and the ASUS G53JW-A1 and ASUS G53JW-SSD can be upgraded to the Blu-ray player.

Just wanted to post an update. A month ago, I posted a sob story on here about the power pin in my G53 cracking off into my power adapter and having to send it off for RMA.

Yesterday I finally got it back and everything is in working order. Apparently they had to replace the entire motherboard to fix the power port. Minus the Travel time to and from the Indiana facility, it took the estimate 14-15 business days the claimed. Overall I'm just happy to have it back and I can start to plow through all the games I acquired through the steam holiday sale :)

On a seperate note, has anyone in here figured the right color calibration settings for the screen? What combination of screen brightness, asus video settings, and Nvida color calibration works best?

Got another question, every time i use the key on the upper left of the keyboard to turn off or on all lights, my keyboard doesn't light up anymore on the upper keys for lights, switching modes, the screen and power key. Also what state are you guys running your laptop on, i assume high performance is when your doing tasks which need lots of power like gaming, and battery saving or quiet office when just browsing?

For the lights issue, you might want to try to reinstall the drivers (I believe it's the ATK package - someone correct for I might be wrong).
I am usually running mine in quiet office and switch to high performance when I play games (very rare during the last week as I changed jobs :) )

Quick question regarding the OEM Backback. How is it? when i receive my G53 or G73. I'll be using it for gaming and for school and i want to know how the backpack holds up.

Minimum I'll be putting the laptop, charger, and 3-4 books in the bag. But i would prefer if i was able to put 7-8 books because I'm too lazy to check what classes i have and to prepare the books. :D

Oh and what model is the mouse that comes with the laptop? Thanks.

i reinstalled the at drivers from the website but its still not turning on all they keyboard lights, i guess ill have to use the fn and f4 keys then. As for the backpack if your talking about text books youll probably be able to fit 3 to 4 max with the laptop depending on how thick.

Hi there. Proud owner of a Asus G53JW. I just read the bloatware guide, and I wonder, where can I download Direct Console? It's not on the Asus support page. Or does my model not support this feature?

The backpack I think holds up fine, I use it to carry my laptop and clothes / books depending on where I'm going.

It doesn't fit as much as I would want to, and even without adding anything else to the load of the laptop + charger it's fairly heavy.

The mouse is a Razer Abyss. It's too small for my hands.

sorry I'm not too savvy with computers, so i installed the ATK package from the asus website and assumed it installed all the new drivers necessary, so would i just remove the whole ATK and then reinstall?

    Hello guys,
stay away from the G53jw 210 bios since it will brick your pc. Just bricked mine.
Power won't turn on anymore, it's just dead.
I live in Italy and RMAing it to ASUS tech, hope I don't have to pay for repair.
Anyone know if there is a way to restore 209 without having to send it to ASUS?

Here comes a new challenger: m17xR3? It's got Optimus and a norwegian site doing a review on it said that it has switchable graphics between the ATI 6970 and the Intel GPU. Source: Google Oversetter

G53sw better have the same, since it'll also have the nvidia GTX 460M, right?

Does anyone know if a screen swap would work with the G53? If so I might try upgrading the quality of the display, to get the benefits of the g53 form factor (smaller than the G73) with a better screen to boot.

This laptop is awesome, i LOVE it. I just got it for college. The batter lasts 3 hours on battery saver, WHICH IS AWESOME. Most of the classrooms that i'll be in will have outlets too, if not all to plug in while i type.

Speakers are Loud!!! And i just love the over all feel of it. I'll try to review it some time.

    But for now 10/10

    Don't forget yours truly!

I'm still looking into doing a screen swap. Does anyone know the exact model of the screen? If possible I'd like to keep it simple and use a replacement that has the same pinout, rather than start getting into cable replacements/soldering.

I'm still loving the system, after playing a handful of games on it I would rate the cooling system as beyond excellent. Even when I push the laptop to its capacity the fans are extremely quiet - although I have to say most of my game time is less than intensive since it largely consists of super meat boy, finaly fantasy 3 (US), and Super Mario X.

Just use the power saving option and turn all lights off with minimum screen brightness. You can also try turning off blue tooth and wifi if you're not going to be using it.

Otherwise you might want to look into a netbook for like 400$ that gets 10+ hours of battery life

Or you could buy an extra battery for the laptop

That makes two of us. I wrote my retailer and they weren't sure on the exact model other than it was an AUO, but I'll follow up with some of the other sites on the message board to see if they have any further information. Worst case scenario I could disassemble the entire notebook and check for myself but I'd rather not go through the hastle if someone has the information on hand.
