Does anyone have any screens of an AIDA64 + Heaven or Aida64 cpu + gpu benchmarks for either the GM or GS?

Sorry didn't get this. So it's 0,5mm thickness but do i need another height or just those for example for the cpu vrm's?

0.5mm works fine for all components needed to be covered

You're in luck. Running Linux on this laptop is quite trivial.

Can do. On balanced (note that this needs you to set fan modes and GPU switch from within Windows), with both Optimus and discrete GPU mode, the system is quiet on idle.
Usable in a library, etc without being much of a bother.
Under load, especially with the GPU, expect it to get loud. Note that the special keys (such as fan control, etc) do not work on Linux.
Battery life is wanting. Carry your charger with you.

Dennismungai - Thanks for work and info on installing Ubuntu 18.04 on this machine. It helped clear up some of the bugs I was encountering in my previous attempt to get that perfect install.

One question - Have you figured out how to control the keyboard backlighting and the screen backlight from the keyboard as well?

    Unfortunately, no. Not yet.
A while back, I came across this program, Light, that has such an ability, but its' a bit daunting to use. With it, I could even dim the ROG lights on the hinge. Still learning how to bind keys to it, etc.

Is it possible to hook up an external GSYNC display to this laptop and have GSYNC function, over a thunderbolt to displayport cable I'm presuming?

(My apologies with the cross post with the GX501 thread)

It should according to Asus's website

"ROG Zephyrus is jam-packed with the latest connectivity to give you blazing-fast transfer rates and maximum compatibility. The USB Type-C™ port delivers up to 40Gbps to Thunderbolt™ devices — four times the bandwidth of USB 3.1 Gen 2 — while 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 and 2 USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports are ready for all your existing gear. You can also run a large ROG gaming monitor with NVIDIA G-SYNC™ via DisplayPort™ over Type-C™ USB or use HDMI 2.0 to connect 4K TVs at 60Hz."

I don't have a G-Sync monitor to confirm, however it works well on my 4k TV at 60Hz no issues.

ICCmax should be the amperage pulled through voltage. From what I've tested myself and heard directly by TS author, changing it doesn't affect thing so much, if not in a negative way. Personally, I didn't touch it.

For anyone who is interested in:

I have recently did a repaste and after i had good temps (between 70-80 in games) i decided to do the vbios mod.

I modded my vbios with @Coolane tdp editor tool for pascal chips to an max. Tdp of 130 watts which can be increased with afterburner to 145 watts (stock: 115 watts). Temps are still decent (max after gaming 85 degrees).

My original vbios and the modded one i'm using one right now are in the zip package.

But please take care and as always:

I'm not responsable for any damages to your device through any kind of modding and using this vbios files!

Unfortunately i didn't do some benchmarks before the mod so i need scores to compare with. If anyobe would post some scores of e.g. 3dmark11 and 3dmark (timespy etc.). That would be awesome!

You need to flash the vbios with a hardware programmer as mentioned in the mobile tdp editor thread from @Coolane . Due to the verification checks of vbioses it isn't possible yet to flash modded vbioses with nvflash..

    I recently bought a GM501GS Zephyrus M, with the 1070, 16GB (single stick).
After reading up and watching many videos online I decided to use Throttlestop to lower my CPU Core to -0.244v and CPU Cache to -0.048v. This works well for my particular machine and I noticed temperatures no higher than 88C whilst playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

When running the Throttlestop 1024M TS Bench, after fiddling with voltages over and over, the best score I could manage was around the ~114s mark. No matter what I did I couldn't get it any lower than this. So I was happy with that until I saw my brothers GX501 Zephyrus, with 1080 Max-Q. His machine could do the same 1024M TS Bench in ~98s. This boggled me for a while because I knew they both had the same CPU so why was my GM501 16s slower?

Another thing I noticed was that his Throttlestop 'Set Multiplier' goes all the way up to 63T whereas mine only goes up to 41T. No idea why this is the case, I hoped maybe someone might be able to shed some light on this?

Anyway, I bought some new RAM, in the form of Kingston HyperX Impact 16 GB (2 x 8GB) 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 SODIMM . Obviously the single stick of RAM I removed could only run in Single Channel mode but now I have 2 sticks running it is now in Dual Channel mode.

I also re-pasted using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

The first thing I noticed was that the Throttlestop 1024M bench score went down from ~114s to ~96s (even better than my brothers GX501).
Also, the gaming temps dropped down to 82C.

Great results so far and I'm very happy with it.

However, to understand better, I wondered if anyone could explain the 1024M TS Bench results being so much quicker now that Dual Channel mode is enabled? Also, why does the GX501 allow a Set Multiplier of 63T and only 41T on my GM501?

I have already tried the vbios mod succesfully but modding my bios is another risk in my opinion

So no i won't try it. I'm really happy with Firestrike scores of about 16700 points.

Is there a way to permanently disable Optimus? I don't know why but everytime I have to hard reset and the system defaults to it. I'm on a clean install with the latest windows updates. I've been having a lot of screen blackout problems with the latest Nvidia drivers. Anyone been experiencing trouble with them too?

Nice. How much time ago did you repaste and which paste did you use?

Mine began to reach the same temp as yours about 2 months after receiving the laptop (actually worse on the cpu side, I was forced to lower the turbo boost clock). It needs dust cleaning and repaste I guess, as it is still running with Asus thermal paste. Still, I don't want to loose warranty... so I have my hands tied.

    Liquid métal.
First on CPU and gpu .
Then a second time I used artic on gpu but it seems to dry fast..as you can see it's getting higher after 3months...
Warranty not avoid if you do it properly.
Maybe I will do it this weekend ...I should put more thermal paste

Aren't there any warranty void stickers? If not, then I could do it... this was my only concern.

Anyway, I used it on my previous machine and I can confirm Arctic is not good for laptops. I would suggest you to use Grizzly Kryonaut, definitely a lot better in this case.
Personally, I think I will ll try with Phobya nanogrease extreme and see how it goes, as it has a better thermal conductivity and viscosity.

Mine can reach even -250 mV on core and -40 mV on cache, being pretty stable... the problem is that, unluckily, it doesn't change absolutely anything in temperatures compared to my usual setting (-125 / -42 mV)

to be honest, the main advantage of the gpu UV, is the fact my frequency does not vary.
It's weird, even if my temp are absolutely ok on a OC Gpu basis, and my GPU doesn't throttle, it fluctuates more in BFV...

Love this machine, but having an issue.

Laptop purchased as a refurb in mid Dec. Repasted with Kryonaut and Conductonaut immediately, replaced SSD with 970 Pro, and doubled RAM. Has been working flawlessly until last week. Worked on Wednesday night, but no display on the screen on Friday evening, only backlight was present. Video is set to have G-sync enabled.

I tested the external HDMI and was able to get perfect video output so figured maybe the screen went bad or the display cable was loose. I re-seated both ends of the internal display cable, but still had no luck. After some frustration and very light percussive maintenance, the screen started to display video, but would flicker intermittently, especially if the laptop wasn't on a 100% stable surface. Any jostling would increase the flicker. At this point, I'm feeling like the internal video cable may have an issue. I'd prefer to replace the cable prior to having to replace the screen, especially since the screen looks perfect when the signal is getting to it.

Does anyone happen to know the part number of the internal video cable?

Well, I recently became an owner of this laptop (GM501GS w/512SSD and GTX 1070) and sadly I haven't been able to recreate the success with temps some of you folk have on here.

I only got it <2 weeks ago and after a bit of gaming (when I finally got around to using it) I felt like something was up. Just stock settings I was seeing PUBG/Apex Legends barely average 60fps, so I downloaded some of the tools mentioned here to see what temps I was getting and to see if undervolting would solve my issues. This was all in a 20-22C air-conditioned room!

It seems that my CPU is always at 95C and throttling (Core 1 anyway), and using AB I could see my CPU clocks were about max 1.7/1.8 GHz during gaming. The GPU was alright at about 70-75C. What was most concerning was my cores varied from 75C (core 6) and 85-94C (cores 2-5) - so that's likely some bad thermal paste application from the factory?

I tried undervolting with throttlestop, and like some of you I got stable UV's at -125 core and -49.8 cache (I tried a wide variety of setting for this but this seems to get me the best results). This helped raise my clock speeds to about 2-2.2 GHz during gaming but still they (core 1 the culprit) sat at 95C and throttling. I was getting better framerates but with drops to 30-40 intermittently.

So then I just had a look at CPU only using the bench tool in the TS app, at stock - 2.4/2.5 GHz caused the CPU to hit 95C and throttle and 2.7/2.8 GHz the same while undervolted - this is with the fans cranked to max. The only way to keep the temps below 95C in gaming were to undervolt and disable turbo, but even then it would intermittently spike to 95C and throttle causing an fps dip.

I think I will try and return this laptop for a new one, hopefully my vendor here in Australia will allow this, otherwise I will re-paste the whole lot. And install 2x8GB of RAM to get dual channel. I feel that the Core 6 temp being so low must mean there is the potential for some headroom with proper thermal paste application but I don't want to void my warranty just yet. Or find out it's due to a faulty CPU or just really bad luck in the old silicon lottery!

Does anyone here have any other thoughts? Will dual channel help with temps? Thanks in advance for any advice.

To update, I ran Cinebench R15 and got the following for the 8750H:

    (Stock)
    Single Core: 161, 167, 155 (3 runs)
    Multi Core: 868, 827, 812 (3 runs)

    (Undervolt -125 -49.8)
    Multi Core: 891
    Didn't run single core

Going on what I've seen of almost all the other laptops running this test with this CPU, the single core is alright (normally 170 +/- 2-3) but the multi core normally sits around the 1200 mark. CPU clocks sit at about 2.5/2.6 Ghz for stock and about 2.7 Ghz when undervolted - with always 1-2 sets of cores at 95C. Not great in my opinion. Time to return it...

Hi guys, is anyone else having issues with the touchpad being unresponsive and missing taps, ghost taps and such? Usually under load..

It's been like this since I've purchased it a few months ago.

Different driver maybe or something else?

    Hello,

I have been an owner of the GM501gs-x74 for a few months now, and recently I've been upping my monitoring game on temps. I noticed that the idle CPU & GPU temps were always good, and most games I played would keep me around 80-83C for both CPU and GPU, but this was before I loaded up the 'super-heavy' games.
I've been noticing that a few of these heavier games will push my components temperatures higher than what I was comfortable seeing on this laptop, but never experienced thermal throttling due to it.
To give more details, this laptop has been re-pasted and has thermal pads. I'm also UnderVolting properly, and I currently live where the recent polar vortex hit pretty darn hard, so in terms of ambient room temperature, it's rather cool.

I just wanted to make sure that my temps were acceptable when playing max settings on these heavier games, or if there was a problem with my unit.
The first image represents what my unit experiences when playing AC Unity. Now of course, this is a well-known game for its bad optimization and incredibly GPU taxing 'feature', but it was a good test for me. The 4 graphs have titles which makes the image self-explanatory, but I wanted to add that the 'GPU Cache L0 Errors' should be ignored, considered that at the time I had recently done a minor change in my UV settings which HWInfo didn't enjoy :p.

    AC Unity Test.png
All in all, the GPU usage is around 95% and spikes at 99%, which is what caused me some very short, and not too often, power throttling.

In the second image, we're looking at a test when playing GTA V (Story Mode). Less GPU Usage, thus 0 throttling issues or lag ever. I get constant FPS with no real issues there.
    GTA Test.png

However, in both images, it should be properly explained that my CPU temps and GPU temps are usually stabilizing at: CPU 90-91C and GPU 89-90C. Anything higher from the CPU temp values are those very small spikes you see in the graph. The GPU temp never actually exceeds 90C, but considering I'm not getting any thermal throttle, I assume it's not a software limiter.

In conclusion, my GM501 is on Overboost fans mode, is very new with full re-pasting treatment, UV, cool ambient temperature, and has proper airflow space.
Even with all that, on the most demanding games, my CPU & GPU temps are sitting at 90C.

Is that to be expected for these, and should I stop worrying considering I'm not throttling? Or is 90C on GPU and those 93-96C CPU spikes something I should be worried about?

Any input to clarify my stress would be appreciated! :)

Just a heads up for anyone who updated the Bios to 208 to also update the Firmware within the device manager.

You all probably already know this, however for that 1 person like me who updated the bios to 208 using the flash option (not sure if there is another way) and didn't update the 'Firmware' item in the device manager tree, I missed that.

Basically I went to update some drivers, mainly the wireless using intel's latest driver, I noticed a tree item titled 'Firmware' showing a driver version of 206, I clicked the update driver and low and behold it updated to 208. Thought I would mention it here for that 1 person like me who might have not seen this initially.

Also I updated my intel AC 9560 driver using intel's driver direct taking my speedtest.net speed from 365ish mbps to 460ish mbps!!! Not bad for Xfinity quoted 400mbps speed.

I just found the most insane and surprising thing...

I decided to re-paste my GM501 myself, and upon removing the heat sink I found... NO PASTE on the CPU. Nothing. That may explain my issues! Wow! That's QC for you :)
