Nope, you cannot charge it this way. Personally, I would just like to order a 2nd power brick so I can leave one at my destination. :) I didn't see a way in the UK though, when I last checked a few months back.

hey guys..doing some reading and it seems like others have the 'battery drain while plugged in and gaming' issue. is this widespread or is there something in the settings I can change?

I travel and game from hotels a lot. I also have had this issue just one time in a hotel, but when I tried a different outlet the problem went away. No idea what was going on there...

    I found the solution

Download the files for INTEL PROSET WIRELESS 20.100.0.4 DRIVERS RELEASE
    Here : https://www.files.laptopvideo2go.com/wlan/proset_24.100..0.4.exe

then update manually from peripherical options.
No exe file. it worked for me.

I saw the video and, honestly, I don't know what he is talking about or how and where did he get that data. Cpu isn't capped at 30W and, if it is, it's definitely a problem of his own unit, that could've been easily bypassed with throttlestop. Mine goes up to 40-50W and even 60W sometimes (cpu only) when gaming or doing other heavy tasks, and it is even undervolted. Also, I think that if it was really capped at 30W, it wouldn't have enough power to reach the frequencies and then the temperatures it often reaches.

Other than that anyway (at this point, assuming his data are right), I see worse temperatures and fan noise on the Scar II, and no g-sync.

I applied the liquid metal to CPU and GPU. Results were amazing as always with liquid metal. CPU temps cooled 18c on star citizen Hurston workload :D
I wiped the paste off and scrubbed both the die and the cooler with an alcohol wipe to prepare it. I kept on scrubbing until it was shiny. I applied the conductonaut liquid metal with the included cue tip and scrubbed until it made a squeaky sound. I applied the liquid metal as a thin layer to the cooler also.
The thermal paste Asus used for other components was some weird foamy stuff. I replaced all of it with hydronaut.
I managed to wreck the warranty tape completely :D

ALL of it with the LM?
    That's bold.
AFAIK the pads on these chips need to be higher, are you certain that LM reaches the cooler?

Mounting pressure felt tight when I installed the cooler back on so no problems there and temps tell the story that it was a success. I applied the LM only to the parts that make contact with cpu and gpu :D
I used hydronaut to replace rest of the thermal paste.

I didnt notice a big drop in GPU temps. Maybe there was but I wasn't paying attention. GPU temp was 66c while playing star citizen on Hurston which is a 100% CPU load. Ill know better once I get out of the planet back to space where the CPU is not a bottleneck and GPU is stressed more. I was there checking a ship expo

    Hi everyone,

after some days with my brand new Zephyrus (8750H, 16GB, 1070, stock paste) and the initial disappointment (I got throttling and max temps of 96º in BF1-ultra with default settings) I think I finally found the sweet spot with NoThrottle:
    • Vcore -170mV
    • Cache -30mV
    • Turbo Ratio limits to 39
    • Slight OC to the GPU (+100MHz in Core and memory)
Edited: After some wise recommendation from @Jena_Plissken I run TS bench getting stability errors in the 1024 test, so I resettled values to VCore -150mV being able to pass all three test sequentially. Now I have to try again gaming and stress testing to see what temps I get.

Playing BF1 in ultra for around and hour, gave me a max temp of 85º, no throttling and pretty good fps (~100)

I guess repasting would gave me better temps but I am not confident of voiding the warranty of such an expensive gadget :D, at least not yet.

I strongly suggest you to also verify the stability through TS Bench, running in sequence all the three 12-threads tests (64m, 256m, 1024m). Because it may seem stable in games, but if you get any errors with that tests (as I fear, with such a high undervolt on core, as mine starts getting errors on -160) the system isn't actually stable at all.

I will do it, but so far I have tried Prime95 for 30 minutes and no errors, I even tried this morning Aida64 (everything but the GPU) and Heaven test, both at the same time for 15 minutes and no issues.

I know, it was the same to me too, until I started TS bench and errors began to appear. They say that benchmark is more reliable in detecting errors; it makes cpu to do same operations twice and then it compares the results, so maybe this is the reason, because other benchmarks don't do that.

You were absolutely right, with -170/-160 it was failing in the 1024 test, now with -150 it passes, I will run again now prime95 to see if I am still safe from throttling.
I mean in Throttle Stop, limiting the multiplier for all cores from 41 (4.1 GHz) to 39, you can see this option in the left side of the FIVR menu.

Anyone selling their stock 16GB ram that came with this?

I don't like mixing ram and wonder if going duel channel will increase performance on this machine, many videos out there that say yea on their systems, but a bit confused on this, comes with 1 stick of memory but specs say duel channel ... hmmm

Anywho if anyone is selling one of the stock 16GB it comes with to opt for faster memory etc let me know what your price would be for shipping to Colorado.

Or better yet where I can buy the same memory, or even the specs/P/N (Case Lat etc ...)

Hello not sure if this is late or not but you could find them on ebay:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/SK-Hynix-1...-2666MHz-SoDimm-HMA82GS6CJR8N-VK/123519938430

Use hwinfo to make sure that this is the correct ram, it would show you the correct model number of your unit as well.
This is the same one I have on my unit but could be different for yours. But if it is the same this is the one then.

Can anyone tell me the difference between GM501GS-XS74 and GM501GS-US74?
It seems that almost all online retailers offer XS74 apart from Microsoft and Costco. Since according to my budget I will probably purchase my GM501GS from the Microsoft for student discount, I am quite worried whether the specs of US74 are the same as XS74.

Hi guys. I just got my unit a few days ago and I couldn't find the OEM Samsung RAM in my unit. Is it fine mixing?

I'll attach my CPU Z. Please let me know if I did it wrong or whatnot so I can return the RAM.

Actually, GM501 ram is made by Hynix, not Samsung. You could search maybe for a model number, type it on google and see what it says.
Really strange that you got a dual-channel unit, by the way... I would say you're lucky.

Oh sorry I didn’t know. I just assumed it was Samsung because that’s what cpu z showed me. So you mean to say that the stock ram is not dual capable and that I got one or is the actual laptop itself not dual capable but the model I got is?

Checked my ram on the chip it says SK Hynix on the chip and in CPU-Z says Hyundai (SK Hynix is Hyundai Electronic Industrial Co.)

Found the part number HMA82GS6CJR8N-VK and ordered another from eBay, yay will have dual channel soon!

The Zephyrus M has two available ram slots, so yes, it is dual-channel capable; but usually it is sold with only 1x16gb module installed instead of 2x8gb or 2x16gb.

Oh! I didn’t get a dual channel unit. Mine came with 1x 16gb. I added another 16gb to it. My original question was is this okay even if the brands don’t match. I attached a photo to the original post from my cpu z.

Uh... I think I didn't understand the question then, sorry.
Anyway yes, it's always suggested to make the modules match, they should be exactly the same with the same serial number (in this case another Hynix module of the same type and number). This doesn't necessarily mean that it couldn't work with modules mismatched, but it may cause problems.

your screenshot is showing your system is using it as dual channel so you should be good, just watch out for the possible random BSOD.

Had a HELL of a time troubleshooting a random BSOD issue like 5 years ago on my gaming rig, thought it was my overclocking, turned out to be what I thought was using the same memory, however 2 of the sticks were newer with a slightly different part number using dual rank, took out my old memory and no more BSOD.

90 degrees without undervolting this normal for Zephyrus, with undervolting CPU i have 80 degrees and ~90 fps

Lately I'm getting some extra degrees on gpu: it reaches 80-81° max now, way too easily on balanced fan, where before it only reached from 74 to 78 degrees.

Could it be dust maybe, and ambient temp increased by 2°... how much often do you think would be necessary to clean the dust on the inside?

Sure you meant gpu and not cpu? Because 90° on gpu actually isn't normal...

Temperature limit for 1070 in GM501 should be 91°, or at least this is reported in gpu-z card info.
I would strongly suggest you to check why it can reach that temperature, excluding possible causes one by one or doing a re-format of the entire system. Cause usually, on this machine, gpu temperature in most cases stays behind 85°, and in some other cases even behind 80°.

On the RAM front, I am using mis-matched brands and have had no issues. I think it is running too slow though, due to this.

Dude, i have followed your advice, and repast my CPU with LM and GPU with Artic Silver...and you know what...i don't go above 80 degrees in BF5 with OC at +200 and memory +250, without undervolt anymore ... and it's just AWESOMEEEEEEE

    Thanks a lot

hey guys...wondering if anyone has the same issue my laptop is having.

I have a GM501GS and a month or so ago I tested the mic on it and it worked fine. Also, plugged in modmic 5 to the 3.5mm jack and it worked fine as well. Fast forward to a few days ago and I decided to stream my game of sc2. My laptop mic (and modmic through 3.5mm jack) was extremely quiet. It would also sometimes PEAK all of a sudden so then my voice would become extremely loud for a split second. It would then become quiet again. Also, if I play a song by the mic, it will pick up the sound for several seconds, go quiet for several seconds, then pick up again. It's so weird.

I've tried uninstalling the realtek audio manager and updating its driver but the problem persists. I noticed that when I don't have any realtek driver installed, the generic windows 10 driver actually works just fine. The problem is the laptop doesn't recognize when I plug in the ModMic.

anyone else have or had this same problem?

My Zephyrus M - used only stationarily on an irregularly cleaned desk - started rattling last week, usually after I played a game or otherwise put some pressure on the hardware. I suspect it could either be the fans or the HDD (I have both a HDD and an SSD in it). Blowing compressed air into the gap on the bottom did not fix the problem.

    Any ideas?

In Discord using the built in mic my friends have reported the same thing, using bluetoot headphones just for audio so no background sound they say my built in mic is loud then quiet repeat and rinse, I have not troubleshot the issue, I just resorted to using some logitech full headset with mic.

There are Windows options Advanced options for priority and audio enhancements you might want to fiddle with, however for me headache gone when using a full headset.

Though if you ever get it fixed post it here, my Logitech G933 are HUGE and don't like using them with this laptop, I'd much rather use some small on the ear headphones and built in mic for travel purposes.

Similar for the right fan but really really light for me...and it's the fan not the HDD... Still after opening everything... i couldn't find where it does come from

Dual Channel vs Single Channel Memory FPS Test

Got my second Dimm which is almost identical to the first except the manufacture week is 20/18 on my original and 30/18 on the second being very close.

Ran a few FPS tests in games performing a reboot between each game first with 16GB and after installing the second DIMM a reboot between each game as well. Using only Balanced mode as I rarely use Overboost when playing games (wife complains about the fan noise)

I don't have any benchmark utilities, however I tested using the Benchmark in Rise of the Tomb Raider and Mechwarrior Online's insane map Solaris City using Testing Grounds just standing still with all the city lights.

Rise of the Tomb Raider game me over a 13fps boost where MWO gave me a slight 2FPS boost (100-104FPS 16GB to 99-106FPS with 32GB)

I wish I tested more games, however I was in a rush to get this second DIMM in ASAP. 16GB vs 32GB I don't think gave me the boost as both games only use about 4-7GB of ram while I play so I'm 99% sure the boost was dual vs single channel.

I am happy now, laptop has thermal paste, x2 1TB SSD's and now dual channel 32GB of ram this machine is pretty beef.

BTW forgot to thank you for this, eBay was indeed where I got mine and found one with the manufactures date very close to mine.

another day another sound issue =/

audio was working fine this morning, left my laptop running to download something on steam. Download completed so then I put the laptop to sleep. Open it up a few hours later and now only the left speaker (as i'm facing the screen) is working. Tried restarting, tried uninstalling device and allowing it to reinstall after restart and so far nothing. I don't play anything on my laptop so loud that it would 'blow out' a speaker. WTF?!

will try uninstalling driver and installing again.

Hi fellow owners - I have a weird issue with my GM501 running win10. At least once a day all inputs freeze (even laptop keyboard and touchpad), but cursor is blinking, all is working. I have to change the "power state" to fix it - if laptop was on a battery I just need to plug the AC or vice versa and immediately all is working fine.

Does anybody else have this issue? I have original piece, I didn't change any settings like cpu or ram voltage, nothing.

Do you have problems too with the Intel AC 9560 chip? Since I bought this laptop I'm having random wifi performance drops, regardless of the driver (now I'm using latest official intel 20.100.0.4). Sometimes it goes well with 15/20ms ping and going full bandwidth, other times it doesn't, ping goes insanely high and download speeds go down to KB/s.
Now I'm having this issue again, I did a win10 clean install even... still haven't solved nothing. Can't say it's a hardware failure, cause neither there are any errors at all both in Windows event viewer and in driver window under device manager. Though, I remember at least an user complaining about this in this thread:

I'm going really mad with this and it's such a pity, cause apart from this it's an incredible laptop.
