I haven’t looked at GPU at all yet, but the cpu has been throttling on games such as Warframe or PUBG. I do like to see synthetic as I am a bit harsh on my systems due to rendering animations or doing game development that puts a strain on CPU or GPU depending on what I do.

This is when I’m on the go as I am most of the time. I only use my workstation when I have to do anything in 4K-8K. but having this on the go has been very helpful as I needed something portable but powerful with an 8th Gen CPU. (& because I love Asus)

Ah that would make sense for your use case then. If my experience with the razer blade 15 and the msi gs65 is anything to go by this laptop should be better. Especially after you liquid metal it. Should be a champ.

Have you used asus laptops alot? This is actually gonna be my first one.

Well I've only ever owned a couple Thinkpads, Dell, HP, and Chromebooks before, however I repair Computers in my free time for friends and acquaintances quite often so I believe my knowledge is Intermediate to say the least. I also tend to work/tinker on desktops more of the time since I love building Show-Builds or repairing/building friends' PCs.

Has anyone found a good protective sleeve for this laptop ? Dimensions are not standart and the ones that I’ve tried out are loose. Still searching nice tight fit.

Just done repasting the heatsink. Here are some pictures of the board and other stuff.

There are only 2 very small thermal pads on the sink. The rest has a paste applied. The power button board has to be removed and unthreaded thru the opening. The heatsink is retained under it.

    Here's the heat sink.

The paste was pretty thick. I ended up getting a 4-5 deg C reduction in firestrike. But the cores evened out to a 2 deg difference across all the cores. Before it was 6-7 deg.

Thanks for the Pictures, So I thought there was 2 NVMe Slots so I bought a 1TB and now a year or 2 from now I'm gonna have to buy a 2TB sadly.

Btw so there was no pads for the vrm and memory? I thought they would of went the standard pads route and not paste every spot, just means I'll have to buy some high end paste as well as LM.

Can you confirm it's all Copper? just means that LM will only stain the cooler a bit after a year to 2.

There is one m.2 slot. According to asus it's an x2 pcie. I think that confused some people.

The heat sink is copper. Probably. Idk I'm not going to test it. Most likely a copper alloy.

Pretty easy. There quite a few screws. Torx and Phillips.
You need to be careful of the snaps that secure the keyboard after the screws are removed. You don't need to disconnect any cables if your gentle with the keyboard assembly.

So I got my unit in today and my thoughts are dissappointed to say the least. I got my unit customized with fuji thermal pads and thermal grizzly liquid metal. And my CPU is running very hot in Fire Stike. Not exactly what i was expecting since i heard so many good things about HIDEvolution.

Have tried using throttle stop to under volt your cpu? If not try it. It will cool the cpu down quite a bit.

No I haven't. I figured since mine was customized with liquid metal by HIDevolution that it would run cooler than a stock laptop. So I'm inclined to believe it has a bad repaste job. I'm working with them now huh hoping they will redo it.

I can try undervolting after work.

    @Benzonica
So a few updates. So I tried in the following order using turbo mode in the asus armory crate, -100mv undervolt, -130mv undervolt, and an overclock of the GPU. So using turbo mode did help temps and an undervolt further helped. Didn't seem to get any extra temp drops after -100mv. But, the GPU was staying cool at 62 degrees. Even after the overclock it was staying cool. I did a quick thirty minute game run the witcher 3 and the temps for the GPU stayed between 62-65 and the CPU bouncing around at 68-75. So it's definitely better and the GPU has more room for overclocking.

BTW does anyone else not like the sound of the fans on this laptop? It's pretty high pitched to me and hurts my ears. o_O

Hello guys, I'm hoping you can help me with something. I just got mine 2 days ago and I like it very much (it was an upgrade from a 7 year old Asus n550). I only play Diablo 3 at the moment and I really need to activate "num lock" while in the game to have different skills spawning over and over. I can't seem to find the "num lock" button on my laptop or a combination of keys to lock a key from the "num pad". Can anyone help pls?

It's the first button on the left above the touch pad. Next to the armory button. It changes the touch pad into a num pad.

Yes. I know how to activate it but you can't lock a number if you press on the number and that key. It just turns it into a track pad again.
    L. E. After updating windows it works. Thx for the help "Benzonica"

Hey everyone, looking for some information on extended gaming temps of the Zephyrus S, if possible black ops 4? Any stuttering or fps drops?

I currently have the Hero 2 GL504 Gtx 1060 and I get horrible fps drops from 120+ to 30 every 5-10 seconds. My cpu temp is around 75 and gpu around 80-83. Both undervolted. I purchased the Hero 2 from HID with the liquid metal repaste and fuji thermal pads, dual channel ram and a samsung evo ssd. Needless to say I’m not too impressed. Might sell this one and go with the Zephyrus S 1070 Max-q. Thanks in advance.

After 2 months of support, I finally got Black Ops 4 last week. I run it with V-sync and get a solid 60 FPS with Gpu temps being around 70-80 degrees.

Why would you use vsync locked to 60 when you have a 144hz panel.

Because why would you want to run 144hz when there is going to be tearing? This laptop doesn’t have G-sync. It looks good enough at 60FPS on this game when I can run 144 on other games.

Well if you are looking for anything above $2500, then you’ll be able to buy a RTX Laptop, yet the performance is not going to be as good for the money like when the 10 series came out for laptops.

Yea ill have no problem spending that plus more if needed. Well the 2080 is what 20-25% ish better then the 1080. Id imagine the laptops will be similar so worth the wait IMO. Hopefully they release a slim bezel 17” model with a 2080/2080 max q, would be perfect.

Hey guys, having a bit of an issue.

I can't get this laptop to accept any driver other than the original one provided on ASUS' website. I've tried DDU, installing through geforce experience and straight from nvidia's website, all to no avail. I'm at a loss at this point. Any ideas?

It is really best to use the ASUS certified driver. Is there a reason you don't want to use it?

My issue with that is that EA has some sort of driver restriction and refuses to allow battlefield 5 to run with drivers prior to 416.xx or whatever the most recent was. Asus is roughly 2 months behind the curve when it comes to certified drivers on their website, unless I'm missing something.

You might want to contact NVIDIA's driver team concerning your case.
Every driver released has a dedicated feedback thread and a form you can fill in and submit directly to NVIDIA.

Have had my gx531 for about a week now and really love it. Exactly what I wanted. HOWEVER, like many others I am noticing backlight bleed on the four corners of the screen. Currently it's only noticeable when I have a full black screen, and so far doesn't really bother me. But I'm new to this kind of issue - is it going to get worse over time? If so, should I just return it and hope the next doesn't have bleed issues? Judging by the internet seems like a 50/50 chance that a replacement will have backlight bleed as well...

So to the current owners of this laptop... Would anyone recommend NOT getting it?

I was so close to pulling the trigger on the MSI GS65 Stealth, but then this one came long and seems the better option.

    Any objections?

I am not aware of the screen bleed issue getting worse over time. But it can be a roll of the dice if you decide on a replacement. It could be better or it could be worse. If it isn't that bad and you can live with it, I would probably just stay with it

How are the bios on the GX531GS-AH76(Amazon model)? Anywhere near as open as MSI's GS65? Can Speed Step be enabled at the bios level without custom bios or flashing?

Thinking of returning my MSI GS65 in lieu of the Amazon Zephyrus S. My GS65 killed a fan 22days in with light gaming...

If you guys are hovering around 80-85C without turning down the turbo multipliers on stock thermals, then this is extremely appealing. My GS65 holds ~81C(tops at 83C rarely) in GTA V settings maxed with some DPI scaling and MFAAx8/MSAx4 on stock thermals BUT I undervolted -.185 and have been forced to turn my turbo to 36/35/34(sets of 2) to get here. Anything higher in turbos and I hit 85C. Want to ensure I don't thermal throttle so ya...

So, I received my GX531 yesterday. I purchased it from Amazon. After unboxing, one of the first things I notice is that the illuminated ROG logo on the rear appears pink instead of the red that I was expecting.
Anyone else have a similar issue or would mind sending me pictures for comparison? I contacted Asus and they were little to no help.
I am considering attempting to send it back to Amazon for a replacement. Thoughts?

Just got mine yesterday brand spankin new from Amazon. first thing i noticed is amazing build quality and looks. HUGE problem though, screen was constantly flickering for the first several hours but seems to have stopped for a while. But Ill see the flickering again when plugging the power cord out and then back in. It looks like staticy flickering that lasts milliseconds. One google search mentioned that it could be nvidia optimus which is that gpu switching technology causing it from switching from intel graphics to the actual gpu.

I don't want to return it but I might have to cause of this

Bought mine from Amazon and had a few questions. I noticed that my fans turn on during start up and seem to constantly be running. My CPU temps bounce from 40-70C at idle as well. When i run a stress test thermal throttling occurs within 10 seconds of the test. This isn't normal, right? Seems like the thermal paste either isn't applied correctly or at all. Or am I crazy?

Wondering how these behave when you throw a 16gb stick of 2666mhz ram in to reach the board's 24gb max.

-Does it run as dual channel with a single 16gb stick added?

    -Still runs at 2666mhz?

I have 2 of the laptops in front of me and they both seem to be the same color as yours.

The bigger issue to me is that when I try to make the keyboard rgb lighting a single color theres a few keys which arent matching in color (left arrow, down arrow and left ctrl)

Asus support sent me the drivers to update which did nothing and had told me to contact the retailer I purchased it from. Amazon had sent me a replacement laptop with has the exact same issue.

Hi everyone! I just bought this GX531 laptop and everything works fine except the screen light leaking issue. does anyone have the same issue? (When you turn your desktop background black and you can see light coming from four edges of your main screen ) is there a way to fix this? Or the only way is to exchange another one?
