Sure I'll get to it later on tonight it is indeed very stupid how you access it but it's there. Also for the asus rog logo to light up you have to be plugged in I made that mistake originally.

Could you tell me where it's at. I have this thing in a box ready to ship back now but if it sounds like it's there i'll take it back out. I saw your earlier posts and the person who told you it was under the lighting tab. I don't have a lighting tab. I have an Aura tab but there's nothing in the upper right or anything to choose settings.

The Alienware Area-51M and MSI’s GT76 Titan are no doubt ones to take a look at for the pricepoint. But I definitely understand!

Hello everyone, I got a Major problem after installing Windows updates. I can't use the ASUS Armory Crate app anymore. It starts and closes instantly. Tried to uninstall and reinstall but no success. Any ideas how to fix it? The Laptop is brand new!

I just received the new Intel generation of this laptop yesterday!

The only thing I'm having issue with, supposedly there's a way to switch from Optimus Mode to GSync mode in the Armoury Crate? I can't seem to find that anywhere, even with the drivers from Asus. Anyone have the same issue?

Is there any way to turn the logo off on the back of this thing?

I wish ASUS made their Zephyrus line a little more understated. The Strix series is better suited to being their GaMeRbRo range.

Thats not possible to do with the new generation it's Optimus only. Only way to get gsync is if you use an external display with gsync support.

well finally bought this asus laptop and this laptop feels great also suits all I need.
I have the i7-9750H, 32Gb DDR4 of RAM also RTX 2080 MQ, I have replaced/upgraded (by my self) the 1TB nvme drive to 2TB nvme, so far performance and thermal are really great, build quality is reall well built, strong and luxury, not too gamish
The most important is the speaker, this is definetely best laptop speaker I have, I used to have gigabyte aero 15x v8 and Acer Predator Helios 500 (ryzen), Thinkpad X1 Extreme
    so happy customer here

Thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these . Currently getting fed up of lugging around my Asus G752vy and fancy something a bit more compact and lighter to carry.

The Asus G752vy has had a couple of niggles, broken power brick ,cost of replacement £120 (ouch  ) and the letter A key cap broke off. (Only a couple of £ to replace ;) )

Any existing Zephyrus owners out there? How is the long term build quality of the Zephyrus holding up???

No local dimming on such thin screen frame, as no room for a full array. And not an HDR screen by any stretch of the imagination, 500 nits top, lol. That brightness is actually great for SDR content.

HDR content is mastered for a minimum of 1000 nits...

VESA HDR 400 and 600 standards should not exist! 800 nits you start to enjoy HDR just a bit anything less and you just end up with dim, greyish, unsaturated mess.

If anyone's interested in buying GX701, don't ever do it from HIDevolution from Amazon.com.
I bought mine in April and was promised to be sent a brand new box sealed product.

What I received was an used one in a sealed box, a laptop which seemed someone had sent back to the factory for refund, and had clear signs of having been used by someone before me.

Upon receiving the laptop, I took a number of photos that can prove its secondhand state, as well as the date taken
through my iPhone. But then I was too busy working and living my life to contact HIDevolution.

Days passed and I was sitting on the fence, thinking to myself that I should sleep on what I should do because I knew it would be one hell of a hassle to package it all over again and have it sent to them through international shipping.

I finally came to a decision that I won't accept a used product for my $3000. When I contacted them they wound't acknowledge my story and evidence, claiming that I should have contacted them within 3-day-period upon receiving the product.

Wow. Okay, not everyone is supposed to know their little policy but okay. The very blatant fact that they sent me 'a used laptop of GX701' remains true despite their robotic response of 3 days return window blah blah.

Hi I have just got a Zephyrus GX701 and had the same problem with Armoury Crate. Asus support couldn't solve the problem and suggested reversing to factory status, but I also don't want to loose all the work done to configure so many programs.

Have you found a way to solve the problem? In my case the only problematic issue is related with the switch Optimus/G-sync that apparently is possible only through Armoury Crate.

    Cheers

    I've just picked up the
    ASUS - GX701GXR-EV007T
    ASUS GX701GXR Zephyrus S Black
    Laptop, i7-9750H, 32GB (2x 16GB) RAM,
    1TB M.2 PCIESSD,
    17.3inch FHD 144Hz IPS,
    GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q Design, 2.60kg, Win10 Home,
    Per Key RGB.

If anyone has any questions or benchmarks to run let me know.

This actually has a MuX switch in it (i think thats the word) so you can switch from Optimus to Discrete + G Sync.
The screen is stunning, the G Sync is amazing, didn't realise what i was missing out...

Just for an approximate performance guide Assassins Creed Odyssey is running at around 80-90 FPS max settings (no res upscaling), No Mans sky sits on 144 (i mention it because it tends to perform badly), all E Sports games sit at 144 and Star Citizen varies from 100-50 on Very high (in typical Star Citizen Fashion).

The keyboard takes some getting used to as does the mouse but after a week i love it.

FYI undervolt is -50mV max for these processors.

I had this issue, the seller opened the case, pushed the bearings to make sure they were seated then lessened off the heatsink/cpu fan screws ever so slightly which fixed it (he logged it for ASUS in case happens again)

Hey mate unless i'm getting the model confused this is definitely possible (i've got the ASUS - GX701GXR but i see the specs are the same as the GX), you need to enable it in Armoury Crate, it's a little hidden as you need to click the little toggles i've circled below, then click optimus and set to Discrete, it'll reboot and enabe GSYNC.

Codral, it's not possible with the HDR screen that's on the GX701. I had one, and even though it had a sticker that marketed GSync, and marketed as having a GPU switch in Armoury Crate, it wasn't correct.

Oh my apologies, i just have the 1920x1080 144hZ pantone, not the HDR! How bizarre they've only disabled it on the HDR, it definitely works on the NON-HDRR (as a side note the discrete performance of the 2080 vs the optimus is almost 50% difference in some games)

Just saw this thread, might pay for you to let them know, they're asking the Q about HDR + G Sync

Am i in the wrong topic? I know two of these PCs were very similar (one had the older model CPU and the other had a higher resolution screen). If so any chance i can get a point in the right direction, search isn't loving me

    Hi all,

Have a bit of a nightmare on my hands... just got a new GX701 (incidentally, with 32GB of RAM....). I was in the process of swapping out the SSD, when the ribbon connecting the trackpad to the motherboard actually came off; and not just the ribbon, but the entire plastic clip section.

Any idea what on earth I can do? The trackpad doesn’t work at all, and the buttons above it are not working either.

There is a small piece of metal sticking out from the back of the trackpad where it was connected, but there’s nothing on the plastic ribbon connector that it connects to.

    Help!

Can the connector just fit back on these metallic connectors? I've had sometimes these connectors pulled off, but they would just fit back on the underlying stiff wires on the motherboard.

Some photos would help diagnose how salvageable it is, but if it can't just fit back (e.g. the wires are damaged or something) the one option you'll have is to take it to some repair shop where they can solder (or what not) back the connector to the touchpad. The other option would be to get a new touchpad, but these might be difficult to source as they usually come bundled with the whole top palmrest part.

At least the ribbon itself didn't get cut, that's pretty tricky to fix from my limited experience.

That's great news however this only applies to the new laptops with hdr support as they would be Optimus only. For hdr on laptops you need to go through the Intel gpu according to asus. If your laptop is non hdr then that's probably why it has the switch.

"A special version of the Zephyrus S GX701 is also available with an HDR panel that boasts over a billion colors with full coverage of the BT.709 color gamut. It has higher brightness, better contrast, and localized dimming across 15 backlight zones. But HDR is so new to gaming laptops that the software ecosystem isn’t fully up to speed; it only works in Optimus mode, so there’s no GPU switch or G-Sync on this model, and gaming with high dynamic range is limited to titles that support the native Windows API for HDR."

Incidentally... any idea why the version I received has 32GB of RAM as opposed to the standard 16? Looks like it’s 2 x 16GB, as the memory in the slot is 16GB... so has to be 16GB on board as well.

Yeah, there's 16GB soldered on-board plus one RAM slot for expansion.

Yup, the connector's completely ripped off with some wires remaining on it and some on the board, I guess you pulled the palmrest pretty hard with a cable still locked in.

But, that looks like a keyboard back there (behind the connector) so I guess your keyboard is not working either? It seems welded to the palmrest so it's not removable.

A good service shop is your only chance to salvage this, I guess. If they can't fix it, you'll need a new palmrest which I presume comes with both the keyboard and a touchpad.

So far, the laptop has done well but there is one game that I have that I keep getting err12 graphic device crashed and it's Monster Hunter World. It's also the only game that really heats the system up that it crashes often. I lowered certain settings but to no avail. Drives me nuts!
