No, it doesn't. It's using the same thing that the Zephyrus has which is no mux and just intelligently switches between iGPU and dGPU with the dGPU feeding through the iGPU.

You are correct, anyone else saying to the contrary is wrong. Wattage is what a device CAN pull, not what a device WILL pull. For example, on PC, you have a 1000W power supply but your components only use 400W, you have 600W available to use on that power supply. You are effectively utilizing 40% of the power supply, that is it. There are benefits to this because the higher rated a power supply is and the lower you utilize the much COOLER the power supply will run. So, if you have a 150W laptop and a 300W brick, the 300W brick will run considerably cooler or even room temperature whereas the 150W brick will most likely be extremely hot to the touch.

Awesome! Makes a lot of sense.

So if if I have a non-branded power adapter with same ratings and specifications, would it be fine? Now if that power adapter has same ratings save a higher wattage, would that work too? (don't want to buy more power adapters everytime I get a new machine :/)

A non-OEM adapter would be fine but don't buy some cheap adapter that doesn't have decent reviews. Cheap adapters could claim 200W and really be 100W.

    Replacement battery part?
That's unfortunately locked. That said, I have only felt the need to use TS because intel cpu ran so hot.

I hope they unlock it in the future especially with 10nm competition coming from intel (hopefully).

from the benches and reviews ive seen in youtube, the ryzen mobile cpus tend to run as hot, if not hotter, than the intel cpus so i wanted to ask before i made a choice to get a new machine.

Not my experience and all the videos are putting the "turbo" setting on which maxes wattage. Videos I've seen put the performance to watts way higher than anything intel can ever achieve with 14nm.

I just don't feel the need for TS because the cpu is cool and out performs intel save for some specific single core scenarios (intel has been having a monopoly so only a question of time before developers adapt to mutli-core architectures)

I got mine today. 4k/RTX3080 version. Great overall but some more backlight bleed than I'd like on the main panel and I have one dead/stuck pixel on the top left of the display (it is white against a dark background but not noticeable against other colours). Tried pixel fixer colour cycling software with no effect.

Not sure whether to return it as it otherwise feels well built and performs great. I had to wait 6+ weeks for this one so I doubt they will have a replacement any time soon.

Some benches out of the box in turbo mode with no adjustment to any sliders:

You mean use the "manual" setting on Armory Crate? Not yet no. It seems to cool fine on Turbo mode but I am not seeing the GPU use more than 117 watts. It is meant to boost to 130 watts with dynamic boost I thought. It certainly feels as though you can push the GPU more. Temps don't really go above high 60s.

Yes I have it on a stand. The 5900HX chips run hot but AMD have confirmed that is fine. Pretty normal to see them high 80s and even 90C. They don't really throttle.

So just got the 3070 version of this and
    I’m bummed....

First off it’s warped a little in the back by the left fan exhaust and doesn't sit flush and has a white dent/scratch mark in the area on a brand new laptop but that’s not the worst part IMO.

Dust...and not a thin layer under the second screen, at the very least 3-5 days worth of dust. When I looked under the second screen cause I was checking it out I saw dust and then I put my finger on one of the fans covers and a thick layer of dust came out on my finger....bought quite a few laptops through the years,NEVER seen one with a layer of dust on it/inside it.

Do you think they repackaged a used unit and sold it as new??? Got it through Best Buy...

    Yikes sorry to hear.....

got mine from @GenTechPC and it was spanking new (Thank God)

Do you get that fresh plastic smell when you put your nose on the keyboard or vents ?

it looks like either best buy or asus repackaged a review unit maybe.

Maybe check battery west level on hwinfo.

Yea mine came brand new with no dust and with all the plastic coverings intact and sealed.

If it had any whiff of repackaged/used feel/look, I'd send it straight back. You can't know what sort of damage it has had. Also, may have been subject to overheating. Had this happen to a few laptops put in backpacks while on "sleep" mode, where they come on even with the lid closed and effectively turn into nuclear devices in terms of temps. One Razer Blade 15 I had with this, ended up with a motherboard failure and needed RMA.

I have just sent my 4k/5900Hx/RTX3080 Zephyrus Duo back due to dead pixels on the screen. Slightly gutted as it otherwise works very well.

Thanks! I'm just in shock still....been building/buying for over 20 years and never had this experience before. Had defects/stuck pixels, etc, etc but never something that was used being sold as new(sealed and everything) and not even smart enough to cover their tracks, I could've lived with the bulge and dent...that's just tiny cosmetic stuff(even though its still wrong). The dust sent me over the edge though and also the bag with the power cord has tears and rips in it and the speakers crackle at low volume(with updated drivers).

If you're going to commit fraud, at least try to cover your tracks, it comes across as sloppy and pathetic when you don't. Been scared to use GenTech/HID but I'm going to have to give them a chance, big box retailers don't care and they treat customers like crap Gen/HID can't be any worse!

Literally everything. Much faster cpu, waaaay faster gpu (laptop "3080" is just a 3070), faster ram, no optimus bottleneck etc. Its a completely lopsided comparison.

Guys, I am seeing wild fluctuations in Firestrike GPU score on my RTX 3080 model. A couple of days after arriving, during testing, I got 27k+ GPU scores. Now 23/24k. I have done a couple of factory resets to test out a few things so it isn't a driver issue.

I get the impression the GPU doesn't boost to 130 watts and maxes out at 115.

Any similar experiences? I may do a fully clean win10 install to see if it makes a difference. What scores are you all getting? I know synthetic bench scores have limitations buy I am testing consistency at the moment.

Yes it was set to Turbo mode. I did run timespy at the time that I was getting decent Firestrike scores:

Sadly I didn't run it again and now packaged the laptop up as returning it due to dead pixels on the screen. Hope the replacement is ok.

If I am not doing any content creating and just gaming is it better to just get the 3070 vs spending another 900 for the 3080? Is the performance increase with 3080 worth the 900 dollars?

Leaving this here if anyone hits it:
After some time (or updates) the trackpad disappeared. Unusable in BIOS and Windows (as if not plugged in).

    Solution:
Opened laptop up, unplugged battery to reset CMOS. Seems to have reset the state of the trackpad too.

Thank God as an RMA during covid times would taken way too long.

Just get the 3070M version and save up the balance for an upgrade. The 3080M doesn't offer nearly enough of a performance improvement to warrant xx80 pricing.
