For those who like tinkering and getting the most performance out of their laptops like myself it's definitely worth doing. As someone who has experienced vbios flashing and helped many others with it, I can confirm that it works flawlessly. No stability issues whatsoever.
You either can or cannot flash it. Once it's flashed, just enjoy the higher performance.
A simple repaste will solve any potential temperature worries, the supplied 300w adapter can certainly power 150w (The GE76 only has a 280w adapter), and in the very rare case anything breaks, just flash the original vbios, Asus won't be able to tell anyways.

Does this Duo have soldered RAM?

Is it still possible to get a 150w vbios on the duo? Because I am looking to get a zephyrus duo.

Do we know when exactly these will be released? I'm seeing dates over at different vendors that vary wildly.

I would be pissed in normal times, but all sellers are at the mercy of AMD -> Asus availability and of course COVID (vaccines are messing with shipping routes for a good cause of course) :/ -
I hear you. Whats kind frustrating though is how this is readily available in Asia and Europe but not in the old US of A... Hope it will come soon, can't seem to find a single laptop this year that will be stronger than this.

From NBR review on it, still seems to have persistent high latency issues, I am not sure what went wrong with my intel one but it had such severe latency that any gaming was impossible, so was watching YouTube for that matter.
Probably liquid metal leaking, I am not sure why anyone would want a ticking bomb in their laptop hopefully the AMD one has better liquid metal application than the intel one.undervolter0x0309 likes this. -
If liquid metal leaked it would already be fried.undervolter0x0309 likes this. -
I know very well that liquid metal flakes can in fact cause system instability if they go around the moab, but thats not for me to find out, thats for the shop to do.
NBR review also scored it pretty badly for its terrible latency, the AMD variant still has latency issues according to NBR but its better.
Still, might just be bad luck I just find it such a shame that the RTX 3070 is available everywhere but my country and yet the 3080 is available LOL -
Could you test Apex Legends on the Duo when you get it? Really curious how well it performs on minimum to high framerates mostly.

Hello everyone,
The GX551QR is my new laptop, it's great and everything but... I'm facing a (very) stupid problem...
I've have changed the original 1x1 TB Samsung NVME ssd with 2x2 TB Samsung 970 NVME... until here, no problem... but from an old habit I had with Alienware I decided to recycle this SSD (and by recycle I mean wiping all partitions and formatting the drive to put in another Pc) without doing any drive backup as I saw all the drivers were available on Asus website...
Soon after I realised my mistake...
Installed Win 10 Pro on one of the 2 Tb NVME drives (c'mon Asus a 3000+ euros laptop with only Win 10 Home...) downloaded drivers ...
and with a fresh setup and drivers from Asus website I could not recover the same original behavior I had with the original Asus setup on the original drive...
Second screen is missing the shortcuts, Aura Creator doesn't recognize my laptop... I've been trying everything but it's way harder than what I experienced with Dell drivers :/
For owners of the GX551QR :
Can someone here provide me with a copy of the OEM partition and/or a copy of the Asus eSupport folder (or any drivers folder original from their setup) on a Google Drive.
I can even send money with Paypal if that required a lot of time for you (DM me on notebookreview), but I have a feeling that if call Asus support they'll charge me a lot for restoring this partition...
Thanks a lot guys -

Hi all, I have the RTX 3080, 4k version preordered (I live in the UK) and ETA is 15th March, although not sure I believe it. There was an RTX 3070, 1080p version available a couple of weeks ago that I could have got instead but I need the 4k panel/colour-accurate display for work. The price difference is insane so I hope its worth it.
Slightly concerned about these reported latency issues. Hope I don't have to send it back. -

Yes this is true but the you need to unlock the laptop absorption limit as well, otherwise the gpu, at 150w, also drains the battery. I assume that in the future asus can update the laptop since the g533 to only 240W of power supply against the 280W of the zephyrus. -

Yes and no, physically there are sensors and absorption limits but the problem lies in the quality:
Feeding must be constant and "clean" without disturbances of any kind. While for usb-c port power there are no problems because it is part of tolerance and typically managed by power delivery (PD) systems, power supplies that go over 200W are more sensitive to the parasitic capabilities and electromagnetic disturbances of inductors.

1. Is a high quality power adapter ok?
2. If (1) is okay, will higher watt be ok too? -
If manufacturers (or those in possession of original power supplies) provided the technical specifications then at that point we could define a 100% compatible power supply or not.
For the second question, the power supplies communicate with the motherboard for power management, the biggest risk would be to give a wattage too high for the notebook.
Last thing, the thing that all manufacturers have in common, although it wouldn't seem, is that they have very prepared engineers working behind the products (especially the high-end ones), So this fact should be taken into account...undervolter0x0309 likes this. -

btw already revert back to stock vbios and using manual oc to gain enough performance for 3080. im sure the high score in 3dmark reflect to maximum fan speed during testing and not optimum for daily use. maybe i try with other vbios with 150w instead of 155w.
in the mean time, i just enjoy itundervolter0x0309, Darkhan and Raid0ss like this. -
