This difference is because you upgraded from a 2x8gb to 2x16gb

The cpu score Ziga34 got with the new ram is the best I've seen in time spy. Somehow my 5800h with this kit https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B079L82S1Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 performs almost identically, I constantly get > 10200 cpu score

This is normal behaviour. With desktop bioses you can set the infinity frabic to stick to the highest setting but amd laptops are completely locked. And I hope that's why the 5900hx isn't really performing better than the 5800h, cause you can't tweak it at all. I don't get the point of that cpu, it's just a better binned 5800h.

There are no secrets for higher scores on CPU. BTW, once I was able to achieve 10600 score with OEM RAM, but it is like a lottery.
But generally you just need to ensure following:
    1. You have no crapware that comes pre-installed. I did full wipe and re-installed only what's needed.
    2. You close all apps (even from the tray) and keep minimum amount of services running during the test, even the 0,5% CPU usage of some service will have impact on score. And this is a lottery, sometimes in FS bench during CPU test none of the services are active at that moment = higher score, and sometimes some random service(s) starts processing = lower score.
    3. You crank up your fans to spin 100% from 40 degrees Celsius (Armoury Crate -> Manual mode). I've noticed that during FS bench my fans spin much slower than they're set to and this increases CPU peak temps to 97 and GPU to 84. This happens only during FS bench, while gaming fans speeds are good and I never have such high temps.
    4. And yeah, just ensure you have latest drivers/FW for all the components.
    5. Optionally - You could inspect the quality of liquid metal application job that was done by Asus, I read some stories that applications aren't the best and that re-applying new liquid metal manually improves temps. Same applies for GPUs, adding LM to GPU has positive effect on CPU as they both connected with same pipes.

p.s. I have Conductonaut and will be adding it on GPU once I'll get my 280W charger, will post updates with temps diff (if there will be any...)

How about warranty after changing thermal paste - is it void ? Lenovo do not voids warranty but they use traditional thermal pastes. The only thing void warranty is breaking anything during the process (lenovo again).

According to 4. NO. Bold NO. If you want best score you need to pick specific versions of BIOS/vBIOS/FW. It's not the rule that latest == best performance. Just take a look on Nvidia drivers, 2 version ago people had about 10% better performance in gaming in many titles. The same goes with BIOS and other drivers. It's time-consuming and difficult but definitely bursts gaming performance.

Can't say for sure, but there are many re-sellers/vendors that offers same Asus laptops with possibility add LM on CPU/GPU on checkout and this comes with 2 year global warranty.

Yeah, I agree sometime newest doesn't mean best.

I am trying to decide between the 2x16 ballistix 3200 cl16 and gskill 2x16 3200 cl16 you linked. I don't want to get the slower cl20, cl22 kits if cl16s are working fine. I don't mind waiting for the bios updates that will fully utilize them later, what speed and timings are they running on yours? I have the Scar 15 5800H RTX 3080 model.

I doubt Asus will ever implement manual ram tweaking or xmp profiles on these laptops. I've had several Asus laptops before and none of them allowed any sort of memory config. Now with AMD we don't even have a windows tool that we can use to tweak our cpu like throttlestop with intel.

Right now, an easy kit to get that will get you better than cl22 performance is hyperx https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-Impact-HX432S20IB/dp/B07BGLKD4M?th=1

Don't look at the xmp spec, the g.skill module runs at jedec cl22, just like the stock samsung memory. Choose the one with the best jedec spec you can find.

Advanced bios with memory tuning is one of the reasons that compel me to go with MSI over nearly every other laptop manufacturer.

And actually, you can sort of tweak ryzen cpus in laptops. You can't undervolt but you can change the cpu power limits with this tool. https://www.ryzencontroller.com/

I was hoping we could get one of the bios modders unlock the advanced menus in the scar bios, enable xmp or adjust memory timings and voltage manually

It is possible. Given the popularity of this laptop, there's a high probability that it lands into the hands of a BIOS modder. By the way, is there a thread on Notebookreview where we can request for unlocked BIOSes? Or any standard resource to learn it ourselves? There is just so much untapped potential that we can gain by modding the BIOS, like enabling Ryzen 9 5900HX overclocking and much more. I'm looking forward to this.

There are some forums where you can upload your bios and request it to be unlocked. Some modders do it for free others will PM you and ask for a "donation". I can't trust them unless it's one of the reputable modders tho. bios-mods dot com is an example.

Looks like the 3070s are clocking higher than the 3080s. Haven't seen my 3080 go past 2ghz, will see if the 280W power brick changes anything.

This cannot be true because I use the type-c port on mine to game externally on a 1440p144hz g-sync monitor (Type-C to DP) and it looks and performs great.

try opening armory crate and making sure integrated gpu is disabled.

    iGPU mode = off

Okay but it does for me so something is wrong with your unit. Maybe re-install drivers, or try fresh OS reload.

Is resizable bar enabled in bios 315? I have read elsewhere that it became a thing in 313 but I am unable to enable it anywhere.

Hey guys, how exactly do we go about removing the back on these? I can't seem to find any good information around and want to add in a second M.2 SSD and probably upgrade the RAM soon.

Unscrew nine screws, keep track of them because they are different lengths, I recommend drawing a map of the back of the laptop on a piece of paper till you get used to it. place the corresponding screws on the map.

Then gently pry as you are able.

They are supposed to have a retention screw that gently pries the back panel away as you unscrew it, but a whole bunch didn't ship with it - mine doesn't have it, but both of the GA503's I briefly owned had it.

There's a clip along the edge on the inside every 1.5 inches or so, some extremely flat, preferably plastic item, cc too thick, like a butter knife, but thinner, usually pretty good. we use some pretty then metal pry tools at my job. Ifixit has a pretty wide aray of tools, i highly recommend their essentials kit for 24.99.

Any ways, pry and then you're in, full access to RAM, SSD, and Wifi Card slots.

Hello scar owners, thought i share my experience with the factory liquid metal application, hope it's not a problem that i have the 17" version.

I got my Asus Scar 17 G733QR model recently, with Ryzen 5800h and RTX 3070, 2x16GB ram.
I searched a lot online for benchmarks of similarly specced models, and noticed that my cpu multi-core score was relatively low:
    Cinebench R20: 4600
    Cinebench R23: 12300
And temps were not great either:
As soon as i start the benchmark cpu temp goes up to 95C and the clock frequency decreases till about 3500 mhz.
So it must be bad liquid metal application, right?
But my warranty lasts till 2014. february, so shall i open it up?
I flipped the laptop and there's a writing on the bottom: 'For those who dare'
So i disassembled and inspected the liquid metal application:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/16KhCaCsm4C8Wh9YAlSukaEVQxyt-fZhr/view?usp=sharing

As you can see, LM does NOT cover the 1/3rd of the CPU, and the gpu paste job is awful too.
Whats more worrying is that some LM went over the protective silicon (right side).
So i wiped it all off, and repasted with MX4 i had laying around.
Both cpu and gpu temps improved by ~10C, cpu temp sits around 88-89C under full load, on turbo profile.
    New scores:
    Cinebench R20: 4975
    Cinebench R23: 12890

With proper LM appilcation i think scores would be even better, i saw some 5800h scores around 13000 in Cinebench R23.

And now my warranty is void i guess. Shame on Asus.
What do you guys think, shall i order LM and apply it?
I carry around the laptop a lot, sometimes in my backpack while cycling, and i'm a bit afraid the LM might gets over the protective silicon again.

My other question: if i apply overclock on the gpu via MSI afterburner, it stays on 115W, dynamic boost seems to be disabled that way.
Is there a workaround for this? Or my only option is vbios flash with higher wattage?

There are no useful hidden menus in our bios, like memory config, OC, etc.
And also we have CSM disabled by default.
All this makes bios modding much harder (or maybe impossible at all)

Ever since BIOS update 3.17 my WiFi module is occasionally not detected- reboot fixes it.

This has happened three times now. I think the update came through 2ish weeks ago. There was no choice in installation. I rebooted, and ... BIOS was updating. Thanks ASUS

Quick tutorial for CPU overclock, your results may vary based on many factors, like RAM, ambient temp, BIOS version and etc.
    1. Download latest AATU UI for RyzenAdj - https://gitlab.com/JamesCJ/amd-apu-tuning-utility/-/releases
    2. Download latest RyzenAdj "ryzenadj-win64.zip" - https://github.com/FlyGoat/RyzenAdj/releases
    3. Unpack UI to your permanent location, eg."C:\Program Files\AATU"
    4. Unpack RyzenAdj to any temporary location
    5. Copy all RyzenAdj files and paste/overwrite "C:\Program Files\AATU\bin"
    6. Launch AATU
    7. Select 5980HX preset
    upload_2021-5-30_22-58-8.png
    8. Set to following and click "Apply Settings"
    upload_2021-5-30_22-56-56.png
    9. You then should see pop-up in bottom left corner if operation was successful and this:
    upload_2021-5-30_22-46-22.png

Explanation: it will set SPPT to 90W (Armory Crate limits to 80W) and will set FPPT to 100W (no such setting in AR) and will set CPU to perf. mode. NOTE: if you then go to AR and will do any changes it will overwrite AATU settings, so make sure AATU is the last app where you do your tweaks.

This only works until you reboot laptop. There are more settings, but don't ask me as I didn't tested them.

My results with 2x16GB Dual Rank RAM, ambient 24C and 319 BIOS:

    Hi Guys

    I got a big problem
Bought this fantastic laptop Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 G533QR and worked nice so far, I could OC memory 1500 MHZ without problems with temperature 70°

While browsing internet, a nvidia firmare update came from nowhere, pc rebooted.

Now Afterburner is limited to max 300 MHZ memory instead of 1500 -

i have also received this update, but mine works perfectly. i suggest you to try reflash the vbios using nvflash, maybe this will solve your problem
