Dramatically slowed mine also. I rolled back a revision and all is well. My PC is plain I7 W7x64 version.

I was having the upside down issue with 206 drivers but when I installed 207 and it worked like a charm.
I'm guessing that the 206 drivers are really buggy and they should pull it. -
One more thing. I would like to thank you for finding the USB 3.0 driver and frimware updates stevedogg Rather it was the driver update or the frimware update it made a huge diff in my transfer speed connecting to my seagate blackbird portable USB 3.0 dirve. Before the driver and the frimware update I was reaching only 30mbs per second, now i'm reaching 80mb per second and it's about time. I was beginning to think it was either my portable drive or my USB 3.0 port that was the problem.

Added new touchpad driver (removes magnify and Smart Area but adds edge scrolling and sensitivity).
By changing the following registry keys from 0 to 1 and restarting ETDCtrl.exe (e.g. by rebooting), you can enable additional functionality accessed via the Smart-Pad settings (double-click the touchpad icon; if the icon isn't there, go into control panel, search for "mouse", choose mouse settings, click the ELAN tab, and check the box that shows a dynamic taskbar icon).
Run a customizable command when you "cover" the touchpad with your hand:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay\Cover_Display
Enable the magnifier option:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay\MAG_Display
Cause the pointer to keep drifting when your finger reaches the edge of the touchpad:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay\SmartMotion_Display -

Also in the beta of firefox, pinch zooming does not work and in IE it seems to work then stop. -
-
The first comes up with the Elan information, the second causes a Windows DLL error.
I did have some problems installing it, none of the Setup.exe programs in the provided download actually work (They do nothing when double clicked), so I've actually gone into the SEVEN_X64 folder and run "dpinst.exe".
I didn't uninstall the drivers I had originally, and I suspect that might be my problem, so I ran the uninstaller that came with the new one, and it appeared to clean off just about everything. I've looked at that registry key and it doesn't exist anymore. I'm hesitant to just delete everything containing "elantech" or "etd" in it. Any suggestions? Should I try re-downloading the drivers again? I didn't have any problems extracting them from the executable... -
1) Just install 8.0.7.0 now that you have uninstalled "something"
2) Install the previous driver, run its uninstaller, then install 8.0.7.0
3) Uninstall any Elantech software and do a search/delete for "Elantech" in the registry as you mentioned -
I can live with this, it's just a bit annoying. I think I may just be better served by getting used to 2-finger scrolling.
Thanks for the help anyway! -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay\EdgeScroll_Display
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay\STV_Display
Edit: doesn't seem to work for me; these settings seem to be reset to 0 when the computer sleeps. Very weird. -

Added new rapid storage technology driver.

Hello everybody, Stevedogg respect for keeping our notebooks updated!
I just got my N71JQ couple a days ago, and I am still trying out all those utilities from ASUS, installing everything before I format again and do a clean install! This is a powerful machine indeed, but still I don't want to have 100 processes on start up...
I installed all the basic drivers (chipset, ati, audio, LAN...), but still there are a lot of drivers that I am not sure what are they for?
So maybe somebody can help me out:
-ATK Generic Function Service Utility
-ATK ACPI Driver
-all driver from "Others" chapter:
Intel(R)_Management_Engine_Interface
IntelR Turbo Boost Technology Driver
The Turbo Boost Monitor application
Intel Matrix Storage Manager
Keyboard Device Filter Utility
Also, I wanted to ask is there a possibility to change the purpose of those small buttons on the left (for ExpressGate, Mute, Volume up/down, Play), I don't see the point for using them when I already have all those shortcuts via Fn key.
It would be much better if we could use it for something else, like net (mozilla, IE), e-mail (thunderbird), or some other programs that we frequently use...
Also, please give me the final answer, what is the best way for flashing BIOS, EasyFlash or WinFlash?
I have EasyFlash in my BIOS already... -
EasyFlash: No OS layer to cause a crash mid-flash, but no ability to retry if a flash fails.
WinFlash: If a flash fails, you can re-flash (and hopefully succeed) before rebooting the computer, preventing bricking. If Windows crashes during the flash (BSOD), you are screwed. -
Hello,
My webcam has been working properly in the past and has just recently started giving me problems.
Hardware ID:
Code:USB\VID_13D3&PID_5122&REV_0202&MI_00
Only sometimes it connects through programs like MSN, Gmail, and LifeFrame. Most of the time I get a blank screen, or MSN freezes in webcam settings, and LifeFrame says that the camera is in use by another camera even if I just rebooted.
I have tried numerous different drivers including the default one that Windows Update installs, which flips my picture upside down and still has connection problems. Something I noticed is that sometimes, when connecting, the computer makes the USB disconnection sound and either successfully connects or doesnt...
I have tried installing the following drivers without success:
V5.8.54000.207
V5.8.54000.1
Windows Update driver (year 2006) -
Stevedogg, you are the man!!
THANKS for clearing that out for me!
You got rep+... (;
Let me aks you what did you use for flashing your bios? -
If you brick your laptop, you just have to send it back to ASUS so they can reset the BIOS. Upgrading BIOS is expected of customers (and BIOS is posted on the official driver page). It will not void your warranty.
I have used EasyFlash to upgrade my BIOS, and I've done it probably 5-6 times now with no issues. It really seems to be random whether you have issues or not. -
Can anyone here help me?? -
The Beta graphics drivers seem to be working great so far for me. ATI 10.10
Everyone should give it a try. -
1) Go into Control Panel and uninstall "USB2.0 UVC 2M WebCam" and reboot the computer
2) Open a command prompt (Start => Run => cmd) and enter the following:
set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 [enter]
start devmgmt.msc [enter]
3) The previous lines will open a Device Manager session. Click View => Show Hidden Devices
4) Expand the "Imaging devices" group. Right-click and Uninstall every device in that group. Under normal conditions, there will be only one device there, but there may be multiples if your system glitched and thinks a new camera was installed. For each device, if Windows asks you to delete driver software, do it (check the box)
5) When the camera entry(ies) is uinstalled, select Action => Scan for hardware changes. The camera will re-appear. Repeat Step 4 until Windows no longer asks you whether or not you want to delete driver software (this basically removes all copies of the driver you may have installed in the past)
6) Once there is no checkbox for deleting driver software, pick cancel (do not uninstall) and close device manager. If you accidentally uninstalled, it's ok; just Action => Scan for hardware changes to bring back the device with the default Windows driver
7) Install the driver: V5.8.54000.207
8) If the camera is upside down but otherwise works fine, change the following registry key (Start => Run => regedit) from 1 => 0 or 0 => 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\0000\Settings\Flip -
Added new wireless driver.

hi guys..how can I avoid BSOD code 0x00000116..i just recently experienced it today while i watch a video on youtube..
-(ATI 10.8,BIOS 212) -
Jasey, you might try updating flash. If I recall correctly there was a bug between an older version of flash and the 10.8 drivers.
If that doesn't work disable hardware acceleration in the flash settings. -

I installed the newest driver for it, but I didn't remove the Broadcom drivers that I installed via win update, and now my BT is not working!
Now I removed BT driver and I want to reinstall it, but I cannot remove this Broadcom driver, because I don't see it in Add/Remove -> Uninstall an update!
That's why I didn't remove it in the first place.
When I open Windows Update from Control Panel and go to "View update history", I see that this Broadcom update was installed on 16.10.2010 together with 5 other updates!
But when I open Uninstall an update, I cannot see it there, there are only 3 updates installed on 16.10.2010!
And now I am stuck with Bluetooth which is not working...
Any ideas how to resolve this? -

Added Catalyst 10.10 driver.

Hi stevedogg, new to the community here. I have a quick question, when I went to the links for the Realtek drivers you posted on the first page an overwhelmingly large list showed up on the Asus website. I was a bit confused as I saw Version V6.0.1.6210 which was updated on 10/22/2010, so I was wondering whether that version applies to the card used in the N61JQ, or I have to download the version you posted (Version V6.0.1.6176) since different driver versions are for different laptops? Thanks! =)

Hi, although my webcam works, I can't find the manufacturer so I know which driver to update to (using driver from 2006! windows install). Make not given in device manager.
Also, when I go Start>devices and printers, the webcam doesn't appear. /although it works!
Help! Where the equivalent of XP's advanced system info? -
1- Press Windows key + Pause key together
or paste the following in the windows explorer:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System
2- You will be at this point in the System menu. Click on the Device Manager link on the left side.
3- Now in the Device Manager go to Imaging Devices and expand it.
4- Right click on the webcam and select Properties.
5- The properties menu will pop up. Go to the Details tab.
6- In the details tab you will see a drop down menu labled Property.
7- Select the Hardware ID item and post the id here in the forum so that I can tell you which webcam you have.
With the Hardware ID, you can also look for the driver for your webcam yourself on the following ASUS webpage:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- -
USB\VID_13D3&PID_5122&REV118&MI_00
USB\VID_13D3&PID_5122&MI_00
thanks -
It should be: USB\VID_13D3&PID_5122&REV_1118&MI_00
This is the same camera as in my N71JQ.
Here is the link to the latest driver (Azurewave Camera Driver V5.8.54000.206) that I am using on my notebook:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- -
OK, I grabbed that one. It actually makes the camera look a little grainier - or maybe it's the light, I'll check later.
The exciting news is my dual boot with Win7 and Ubuntu 10.10. Both OSes look quite great! And this particular lappy (N71JQ-XI) is well-behaved fan-wise so far - and that's with lots of loading of big files.
Thankyou for bearing with my newbie questions.
The touchpad driver makes a huge difference with the "bouncing cursor." I'm coming from desktops and this really makes things way easier to type.
I'm still getting some spikes with DPC LATENCY checker, so I'll keep going with the driver replacements. . . -
I've also been having a bit of trouble with the webcam, but mine doesn't work in either skype or manycam, but it shows up in device manager. I've updated to the latest drivers a couple of times. Any ideas?
-
Of course, I had the opposite situation from you - the camera showed up generic in device manager but worked fine in Skype. -
I just updated from the stock driver to the latest, and my image was flipped upside down. Hopefully rolling back the driver will fix it.
-
Where else can I get the wireless drivers? It seems that the website won't let me download or it's just very very slow. Does Atheros have their own support page for driver downloads?
-
Here is the link for it:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
You can also try it. -
Actually there is no graininess problem - just needed more light.
Where is the card reader in device manager? Don't see mine - and it's not appearing anywhere else either. -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\0000\Settings
Change "Flip" from 1 to 0 (or 0 to 1; just toggle it). I think they install some of the cameras upside-down, which is probably also why this registry setting exists.
