Well, I played FEAR Combat after everything you said, and aside from it only getting 5 FPS on highest settings and 8 on the lowest (which leads me to believe it is just badly coded for Vista) everything was fine.
-
Ok, can you try to run 3dmark06 please
-
CPU-z will say the muliplier is at 6 when its not under load...your fsb shouls be like 1171 or something like that. when under load it will jump up to give you 2929 i believe
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
It doesn't jump up, but I think that is a CPU-Z issue rather than a hardware issue, all the other programs say 2929.

See my review, 3DMark each time was run on a fresh system under the conditions you mentioned.
-
Okie dokie. I installed Vista Ultimate 32 bit while I was waiting so I could be on the same OS as you. Ill know in a little while if it workks...
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
I'm on business x32, but I guess it is about the same.

I meant to say business

So this is definitly about the ram I think, I have DDR2 667 so its not being overclocked like your ram in game mode, its still running slower than its rated speed. However the heat issue, its possible the ram is running to hot I guess. Ram however usually can run very very hot without having problems. -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
RAM can run over 100C at least, I know because my old computer used to.

The missing screws was an asus mistake not a c90 mistake, however both eddie at btotech.com and ken at gentechpc.com have included all the missing screws.
Scores are lower than a G1S right now, and maybe a few other super high end machines however a G1S is 2000$ a C90 can be configured for 1500$ or even less. When you look at the game scores then look at the cost the C90 is the better price/performance winner. Plus scores go way up if you overclock the video card, and given the c90's cooling it can handle a very nice overclock with no ill effects.
The other benifit is the ability to upgrade the card. I do not regret my purchase one bit, we just need to get some new bios that fix the memory issue, and I say the c90 will move from a B- to a A+.
BTW just some small stuff:
> Keyboard is perfect
> Screen is perfect (way better than most notebooks)
> Looks sleek so it can fit in anywhere
I wouldnt try to sway you into buying one now, but soon as you see we have fixed the memory problems or can atleast tell you what ram has no problems, I think its worth buying. Also I think when the HD2600xt is out it can score higher than the G1S easily. -

Not sure what it is.
In a game you have the ram, gpu, and cpu going thats alot more heat. So not sure if its heat yet or not. However considering how in game mode the temps are lower because the fans move faster....
there is only a 1% chance id say that its heat right now. the oc only goes for the cpu wich I prooved runs COOLER in game mode, and for the ram, but the ram isnt even being overclocked its just running abit closer to its normal speed.
Its definitly a software issue or a ram issue or something.
Plus from what test I have run, game mode makes a very very small difference in scores.
The hidden benifit would be a higher OC on the gpu I guess since the fans go faster you can run it higher. I dont like the idea of OCing a notebook much tho, the C90 can handle it but the noise is something I cant deal with. I run in normal mode and im happy.
I may try out the beta bios Ken has to see if it fixes the issue, even if it doesnt just having the ram run at native speed should increase performance abit. -

Seriously, all of us talking about the issues the C90 has, we don't dislike it. Even swoley, who is really having issues (thanks for all of your work by the way), seems to really like the computer anyway.

Its natural to talk about problems (and try to find solutions) and not really talk about all the good stuff.
Soon as I get vista x86 installed I will have my review up.
Right now I am having so much trouble, looks like I'll have to use Home Premium x86 instead of ultimate but it should give the same scores as ultimate. -
If you forgot to ask ken to process your order is it still too late to have him process the order? if not is it going to be the same quality?
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
he processes them as he has the units, I'm sure it will be okay!

I had some lady call me but thanks alex

here is a question for you guys, I havent payed much attention to the lights/buttons on the c90.
My front buttons, the light bulb is on when I use the computer thats the "on" light. Next to it is a battery light.
This one confuses me. Sometimes its on, somtimes its not. However I have always used the c90 on the power cord not from the battry so whats this light mean?
IMPORTANT: also I must ask your power brick does it get VERY hot?? I mean so hot that you pick it up and drop it? thats how hot mine gets. When I am done using my notebook I have to wait a few mintues for the power brick to cool down before I can even pick it up and put it away, and it holds a charge for a good 30 seconds after you unplug it too.
Next light is a mail light, I dont have the mail software installed so that one doesnt come on, then finaly it looks like the blutooth light. I used bluetooth but didnt pay attention to the light I'll check it later.
I am just confused with what the battery light means.
Also is there a way to go from AC power to battery power without turning off the computer??? you cant just unplug the power cord and have it run off battery. I found this out the hard way when my son pulled the cord out durning a vista install. -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
Okay, the battery light is orange when charging and off when it is full. the next one is a you have mail light, it comes on if you use Outlook. The last light is WiFI. And my power brick gets very hot, almost as hot as my last computer. That is okay though, they are supposed to be pretty hot.

Mine runs on battery without restart...
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
If I pull the power cord out the computer wont shut off, but it freezes. You cant do anything with it except hold the power button and do a manual power off.
Also I noticed even on full battery when I tried to install vista, the computer would freeze when it started the loading part. I could only do this with the power cord in place. -
Have you tried removing the ac cord again during normal running? It should not do that. (duh) And I know you have searched, but the pdf manual says nothing about the battery light.
Edit: Nevermind... Posted before I could ask -
Quick question for everyone: Are you using new memory or used? Just checking that possibility...
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
mine freezes for about 5 seconds (if that?) then resumes functionality. But the Wifi drops out if there is anything being transmitted during the switch.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I cant use all 4gb it wont post, but with the 2gb dimm its running fine except for game mode.
-edit yay! I got windows vista home premium x86 installed... but I left my asus drivers disk at home :/ it would take all night to d/l them from asus with my wifi connection at work I think....
I thought that last light was bluetooh not wifi. I'll check into that btw. -
Again, I was wrong
From the C90 manual:
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
you got a manual?!
Mine is on a CD. -
Yep yep, PDF from Asus' website.
C90 Manual
Not very detailed tho... and from March 07 -
Alex, at what point during setup did you install the enhanced VGA turbo gear drivers? what are they exactly? when i ran the program for them i didnt notice anything like a new start menu program or anything..
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
it is on the drivers CD, look under utilities, there should be Turbo Gear and Turbo Gear Enhanced VGA.
-
Um, I know where it is
"Alex, at what point during setup did you install the enhanced VGA turbo gear drivers? what are they exactly? when i ran the program for them i didnt notice anything like a new start menu program or anything.." -
lol give him a break. He is very busy!!
So what version of the BIOS and GPU should I get if I want to crank it up as high as it will go (without melting, which I'm not too worried about)? -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
ohh, I thought you said where. it has been a long day. Anyway, I installed them while installing utilities, as for what they are? I dunno, I noticed when it is running my overclocks seem to be more stable, that may just be placebo effect though.
-
how can you tell they are running? I dont see any sign at all
-
As of right now I think the overheating issue is either a heat issue or a bios memory issue. My reasoning for heat issue is that if I run a small house fan on it its fine and runs anything I want overclocked and all. My reasoning for the bios memory issue is that the current bios version displays the wrong ram speeds and runs it at incorrect speeds. If Ken test out the new bios and I get and it doesnt fix the problem, then ill have to say its an overheating problem, whether it be gpu, cpu, ram, or even hard drive, chipset, motherboard, power adapter plug, or just heat in general.
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
it is a lightweight process, you can see it in the Task Manager, it is called "wbctlvga.exe"
-
excellent. you told me just in time. im doing a fresh install right now and came back to look at the thread
-
anyone know if said TV tuner works with just that cable you mentioned in your review? or do you need another card for it?
-
From the C90 manual:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141567&page=5 -
Didn't they say they didn't get a antenna cable thing?
-
Arr... Double negatives... Its on the other forum here.
-
Yes, its confirmed it DOES NOT come with the tv tuner. If you read that it does in Alex review he edited it after I told him. Since it says an adapter is included, when the tuner becomes available it will probably come with it then.
-
okay guess ill just got an express card one then. thanks
-
Is anyone using Home Premium? with the C90S, do you lose that much performance between that and business?
-
I ran home premium the first day i got it at some point. i forgot how it was though....sorry.
-
its its less then 50-100 3dmark 06, i could honestly careless about which version then i have i disable Half the vista stuff anyway so annoyin and a wasteful , and it would allow me to use a tv tuner easy at college
