And maybe it isnt that much of a problem if I buy the notebook from a compustore, where I have support for it?
And ofcourse: I have now you superb support too guys
I dunno, but this one costs me lot less then the g1s i had in mind first, has better performance, upgradeability,...
only stupid battery, but my view to the future is: powercords!
Anyway: it seems that you guys are really happy buying
c90s, or am i so mistaking?
-
Will the C90s be Penryn compatible? I assume a bios update is all that is needed.
-
Nope, Core 2 Quad, 1333FSB Core 2 Duo (6550,6750,6850) and the Penryns are on the P965 chipsets while the C90S has a G945 one.
To make it simple, the c90s max FSB (through overclock) is 1279mhz. The penryns (I think) will running at 1333mhz or even 1600 -
I hope we will see some worthy 1066MHz FSB flavors of Penryn. They did make a 1066 for this initial release of Xeons... given it is the slowest of the bunch.
-
Now that I think about it wasn't the e4500 part of the newer line up and yet still works on the C90s because of an 800Mhz FSB. If this is the case I could see a 1066 Penryn working on the C90s.

Hi. I have had this notebook for a while and I want to update the DVD drive. But I can not find any where to buy the HD or Blu-Ray versions. Help???
-
-
I could not find just the DVD drive most sites will let you order the drive and the laptop but not just the DVD drive. I did find this site though. http://www.avadirect.com/plist.asp?keywords=asus+c90
It has some of the hard to find add-ons/upgrades. Like batteries, power cords, TV tuners and of course the HD and Blu-ray drives. -
Call to order them. Most Asus resellers will have them.
-
Waiting for the LG and Samsung slim combo HD/BD drives to come out or drop in price. C90s will fit standard Slim drive, so for me its just a matter of time.
-
Is there a list of 100% working 2GB stick out there? It's not like you can get infineon or supert talent how you want >-<
-
-
You can order only the ram from them? Or is it just because you bought there?
If I can get a 2GB stick, I'd like to have 3GB and I'll put my other GB stick on my dad's laptop -
-
lol yeha probably
I've checked in Canada and the only 2GB stick I saw in DDR2 667 (nothing in 40o or 533) were buffalo certified for $50, mushking for $130, OCZ 2x2GB for $120 and kingston for $55.
I think kingston was in the working list at a time, is it still?

Okay that's what I thought
I'll PM Ken about it -

What size are the fans in the back of the laptop?

Hi Everyone,
I am the proud owner of a C90s bought from Kickace! I've had problems with it since trying to downgrade to Vista 32bit and now to XP. But I finally got everything working!!!! I installed XP and used the drivers from the DVD that came along with it. The only two problems I have are that the wireless icon is not showing up on the toolbar. I checked my device manager and it seems that drivers for the "Network Controller" has a big yellow question mark on it. Any help? -
You need to download the correct drivers from the intel site, C90s didn't ship with Wifi cards, hence no wifi drivers on disc.
-
such a simple answer. thanks man!
-
-
You guys have talked a lot about updating the drivers for components but my C90s seems to be working fine with the drivers from the CD. Should I still update?
-
But you may want to try some graphic drivers.
http://laptopdriver2go.com/
But its nothing world breaking, but may get you few extra fps on games.
Personaly complited crysis on out of box c90s ;> -
My 3945 has his drivers in the CD . At least I think so cause I didn't look them up on intel's website and it was working on XP (Intel CD is still sealed). Vista already has them in. -
I have a 4965 A/G/N, not support by default by Vista and neither were they on my driver disc.
-
+1 on RangerXML's comment.
-
Looks like the 3945 is somewhat older. Was by default in Vista + there is the "Intel Wireless Wifi Link" driver on Asus' DVD. My Intel CD also only had XP 32bits drivers -
Ahh, lol, I'm getting mine very soon. I can't wait!
-
Hey guys. I have been the proud owner of a C90S for quite some time, now. I dual boot XP and Vista with no problems (I might have had some problems getting the initial setup working but I dont recall them at this time). Like the rest of you, I am awaiting the more powerful GPU that we were promised by ASUS. However, that's not what I am posting about. Id just like to share my memory woes and successes.
When I got this baby back in October, I originally ordered it with 1GB of ram. It shipped with 1x1GB stick of Buffalo RAM. I had a 2GB stick of corsair on hand just waiting. This resulted in a failure to load windows in battery mode so I ran out and bought a 1GB stick of corsair and have been using that set up ever since. With the 902 bios recently out I went and grabbed a 2GB stick of Transcend from newegg (since they're down to 35$ now!) and it works perfectly with both the 1GB stick of Buffalo and Corsair. Finally, I have 3GB of RAM! (registering 2.88 of course). Now I just want my new GPU (Yes, I have a DDR2 version of the 8600GT because the GDDR3 version wasnt out, and i refuse to pay full price for the upgraded card at a marginal increase). -
I have read a few times that Asus is working on an 8800GT - mobile to fit into our MXM2 cards...hopefully they will find one soon! -
it's been rumors all thus far on the 8800...however the 8700 is planned, with a better heatsink ( finally.. ), along with new ATI cards, I believe.
-
well that's pretty good news, i hear the 8700GT isnt all that impressive so I hope there's something in the works for the 9600s later
-
8700 planned? 8700 is around, I'm not sure if its on MXM2 but its an official piece of crap card. 8800 or bust, imo. 8600GT seemed great but then I saw how it choked in DX10 I still think our c90's are absolutely fabulous....oh and also I had my first small problem, although I see no sign of wear and tear. accidentally tried to close laptop with a pen sitting inside at the back and it popped one of the monitor hinges out of place, but no damage, nothing broken, popped back in almost immediately with no problem.
We're better off waiting for next gen MXM2 or 8800m GT. 8700 will be excessively priced when it comes out for a marginal benefit, albeit better than 8600M GDDR3. 8800 in any form should be worth its money, or perhaps if we get a nice ATI MXM card....I do recall people saying the mobile ATI cards have some better horsepower as of late. -
honestly i hear a lot of talk about it being easier to make 9600m cards in mxmII, even if I have to wait until end of 3rd quarter - 4th quarter 2008 It would be worth it (as long as I knew we were going to get it).
-
the 8700 is out, yes I know, however it's planned to be released for the C90P, and according to Asus the S as well. Anything about the 8800 or 9600 is all but rumor at this point. Since we never got the 2600 ( would have been almost useless anyways ) I would imagine they'll do something with the 3600 or, if it's possible, the 3700.
-
The 3650 is weaker than the 2600XT so it would be useless, the 3690 is as good as the 8600GTS
-
Is there a resource I can use to keep up to date on what is/might be in development by ASUS?
-
-
I don't think they have made the 9600M yet. All mid-range cards have been MXM-II, and I believe the desktop G94 consumes less than the G84 so I doubt that would be different now.
-
Yeah they haven't made them yet. I wasn't aware that they used less power though. Here is an awesome site on telling the differences between the cards:
http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/types.html -
Wow ASUSTek has a forum.. sort of. How accurate do you think this is?
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...&board_id=3&model=C90S&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
Lots of rumors on the 9600M GT for this summer, consensus is MXM-II -
Yeah, according to the current 9600GT specs, one could assume it will have the same as the 8800M GTS, but costs half the price.
It's still 2 times as powerfull as the 8600GTS -
Since we are on the topic of upgrades, anything new on the CPU front. All I want is similarly fast CPU that uses less power. I currently have a 6700 at 2.66 Ghz.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Nothing new on the cpu front and won't be because of our older chipset. Maybe with some mods but doubtful.
Who do these people on the forum talk to? New card by july for the c90. Suuuure. -
