Your system goes into the power option mode associated with battery conservation when you unplug it. To change it so that it doesn't turn off your network card when you unplug it go into device manager located your network adapter and uncheck the option that says turn off this device to conserve power.

Also wanted to add speed of delivery. Everything was ordered on Aug. 14. 4 of 5 packages arrived on the 20th. Cost for this was $1471.40, shipped. Not bad, but the wait for the memory is killing me :)

    Wow got my c90 !!!!

got it from excaliberpc, and considering Im an international customer, it got here roughly 4 days from shipping... pretty imressive.

However, just also want to add that i have same issues as vicious... ( cant get the 2gb corsair to work on battery power. ) sigh... sticking with 2 x 1gb sticks for now... and it works perfectly.

any news on that bios update ?

the fingerprint reader doesn't seem to take up as much as hcontrol, on mine. I haven't seen any super-high amounts off the fing reader, its at 24megs on my C90. I don't see any noticable leak, although with 3GB ram it seems to keep any menus I open on the fingerprint program cached in the ram.

Just bought the C90S, the Velocity Micro C90S to be exact. I'm pretty satisfied with what I got, and it even included a $50 Best Buy Gift Card, Vista Home Premium, and 3dMark06. :D

Its funny and ironic that your Velocity Micro C90s came with a Best Buy gift card considering that Velocity Micro is selling their systems through Circuit City and not Best Buy. I take it you bought it from Velocity Micro's online site, and not Circuit City. ;) :p

You would be correct, sir. Velocity Micro sells their systems through Best Buy as well, just not the laptops, I do believe.

is the only way to run the c90 in game mode is to have a fan blowing or a cooling pad? it locks up 10 seconds after i switch from manual to gaming.

about the bags/backpacks, I want to get one but i'm not sure what size i'd need. I realize it's 15'' but i thought the turbo engine might skew that a little. what's working for you guys?

    targus works fine.

i think the freeze is hardware problem. i bought and used the antec cooling pad and it still freezes. i locked on the temp it wasnt even past 70 and everything locked up.

Like they said, it very likely may be the BIOS, since this Gaming Mode hasn't really been tested on this type of hardware before, since it's almost completely customizable. ;)

Is there somewhere that a 7950GTX MXM can be purchased to throw in a C90 barebones kit? And what about down the road when the next big DX10 GPU that can actually handle DX10 features is released? Where would that be available to be purchased? Upgradeability is great and all, as long as you can actually buy the upgraded parts somewhere.

It would be MXM III and the c90 has MXM II

And it can run all DX10 things. DX10 is not a graphics engine, but a randering method by the way.

"It" meaning the 8800GTX or the current 7950GTX? Either way.. what you're saying is there's no way to upgrade the C90 "user upgradeable" laptop's video card?

The reason I ask is I'm in need of a new laptop but don't want to buy one right now with 8800 Go's due this winter, from what I've read.

The whole point of the C90 is user upgradable. Lots of us are planning to add in an 8800go to our C90s. In the meantime, the 8600GT is a pretty good card and handles DX10 alright. Of course if you're worried about vista eating your performance, you can always use DX10 on XP via alky project ( http://www.fallingleafsystems.com/compatibility/ ). And if you want the vista look but not windows you can always go ubuntu, just know you have to install gutsy gibbon not edgy.

sigh.... so how many people are still having problems with bsod in battery mode???

I bought stalker to pass time on my c90 (gives me a good reason to stay plugged in all the time, lol) the game is pretty engaging and fun and runs nice at maxed settings.

Has anyone tried CPUFSB to OC the proc, as well?

also I'm not too worried about OCing since you can test for artifacts/safe temps rather easily adding another 50mhz to proc/ram isnt' going to affect the thing a whole lot since the fans will kick in if it gets hot

true I believe the oc max is 500/450. Im just saying so far i havent had the need to oc the card. about cpufsb not really. I have used turbogear but i thing the fans are too loud on oc mode so i usually just put it on gaming mode.

Kind of, I don't have turbo gear installed and I charged the battery up and I can run it off of the battery at any point. Also using the windows power manager, I can put it in Power Saver, High Performance, and Balanced modes.

you misunderstood. turbogear really only does by default things the computer can mostly do such as power savings mode, except that it turns off the fans too. Also we only get about 1hr 45mins off the battery even in power saving :)

You sure? I thought Turbo Gear manipulates the CPU core speed? As far as I know, Window's manager doesn't go that far to save on battery life.

Thanks for the insight. Much appreciated.

I emailed xoticpc.com to ask if they would make the 8800 Go available for purchase "a la carte" so that I could upgrade the C90 myself at a later date and received this response:

Would be nice to have some assurance that there will be a viable upgrade option for the C90 down the road, but I suppose they have to cover their ass just in case.

Hi, theres an ATI card on the way (x2600 i believe) the drivers are already up on the asus site and its release has already been confirmed. so at least there's going to be one option...

I do believe as someothers that the real upgrade wont be to an 8700 or 8800but rather to a 9600 once it gets released sometime next year.

Just got my C90S today. Encountering a problem whilst playing fear. I can play for awhile until I hit a black screen. and My comp makes a sort of shuddery noise. I'm not sure if this is the comp crashing because the computer stays on but the screen doesn't. I'm guessing the graphics card is doing something funky. I just have the regular driver that came with the comp. Would installing a different driver fix it possibly?

Don't think so. My gpu would be around 80 degrees at idle. But yeah try new drivers they are most likely the culprit. Also speedfan is monitoring your cpu temp not your gpu. You need to use another program to monitor gpu temp, I just use the nvidia monitor.

Im in a cool hospital room right now and its showing 82c idle... thats crappy as this is my new system, I remember the old one idle at low 70's...

However the fans are nearly off right now, under load when the fans come on it should cool down alot.
