do you guys think its a good idea to use a M17x psu on the M15x?
-
-
i don't think it would recognize it so i would think it wouldn't power the M15x and it would boot/stay on battery.
-
thanks tuenkamen, man your everywhere today, lol but still kinda wanna try it out.
-
well i have sleep issues so i may be up till whenever lol always giving advice and whatnot
-
I'm certain Joker gave the M17x PSU a go in the throttling thread, it did work but didn't fix the throttling issue. Don't know how advisable it is long term but it should work for benching.
-
Thanks smeggit. Pretty much that all I want to do with it. Just some benching and testing.
-
Weird, I'd responded to the M17x thing but my post got deleted or maybe didn't get posted..
I was saying that I think it must be a setting in the Bios that throttles at a certain power level so the high power PSU doesn't fix it even though it has the wattage available.. I'm just guessing but it would be likely that the power throttling would be set to work with a 150W supply even if a 210W was plugged in.
The throttling is directly affected by the power draw, this can be seen by the difference between throttling at full brightness and minimum brightness. -
yeah i can of figured it be like that, but still wanna try it out. have my heart on the 10k mark for gpu but i'm hitting my limit. maybe have to try something else.
-
put your laptop in the freezer in a plastic bag for an hour, bring it out and then run the benches
that extra coldness will keep the GPU colder for a little while longer and probably allow slightly higher clocks for about 20 minutes.
worth a try? -
Gotta get some updates on the Scoreboard
-
cooling is not a factor if you check out all my recent benches you would notice that the temps are way low. i benched it in my company's ac vents, lol. if i have time, i will try some more benches but lately no one else is trying.
-
I've hit a wall, when the new card comes in I'll be back to benching
-
@Mr Pras, Your physx is still on. Once it's turned off in the control panel, the check mark in the GPU-Z at the bottom will disappear. Try re running with the same settings.
@tuenkamen Please make sure you have CPU-Z in your screenshots to verify CPU.
SCORES UPDATED

Hitting 9837 is excellent. Your just a driver or a tweak shy of hitting 10k. I think the M15x can do it sooner or later...
-
will do in the future
-
New guy here, just ran the 3DMark06, overall score of 12663, SM 2.0 Score 5153, SM 3.0 Score 5203 CPU 4509.
i7 920XM, gtx260m, 8g RAM, 256 SSD. -
pretty good doc, if you post a screen shot with cpuz and gpuz then your scores will be official. btw you would be 4th if i can remember.
oops forgot to say, welcome to the forumm and awesome specs man. -
Thanks, I will work on the screen shot. Not real sure how to get it on here!
-
once you have a screen shot, scale it down so it under 500kb. then when making a new post go to advance and on top is a paperclip, attach it along with your post and done.
i'm not real good at explaining stuff, so if you don't understand, just pm dr650 or look at first page. -
giving this a try....

still needs cpu-z and gpu-z to show your cpu and gpu clocks, make sure in the same screen shot.
-
uh, ok? LOL. Not really to interested in the contest, just thought I would share.... all the clocks are what they were when they came from the factory, though.
-
hahhaha alright, your setup is awesome, kinda jealous here.
-
heres my vantage oc score clocks at 650/1100/1625
score P6463 -
Thanks alot, you have a awesome setup as well. The forums are full of great info!
-
I've just done a clean reinstall so I figure no better time to do some benching, results coming soon (KFC coming first
) I've not played with GPU OCing much, what do you guys use to test for stability/artifacts?
Edit: My stock benchmark:
Edit: OC'd to 650/1100/1625, don't know if it's stable, I just pinched the numbers off tuenkamen (cheers bro)
Edit: Tried 700/1100/1750 but it crash. Nudged it back to 690/1100/1725 and got a bench:
Don't think I've broken anything yet, it's still going whirrr instead of pphhhzzzzzzttt
-
I know it's not official, but thought I would share anyway! I think this would be good enough for 3rd??

Great score doc! How fast were your clocks going?
Gj Smeggit! You can surely beat the best score for the 260M! -
My clock speeds are stock... Whatever they come from AW with. Not real sure how to overclock, so I i don't even want to mess with it, lol.
-
O_O Thats a crazy good score for stock clocks!
Overcloking is very simple, if you need help just wave at us! -
lol smeggit np those scores there are good not surprised i got beat with the same clocks by you as you have the 820. also for clocks ive upped the core to 660 for games runs smoother but that's as far as i can push it before a game crashes
EDIT: but i still win in gpu score lol -
oc is pretty simple like soccer stated, nvidia system tools is what most people are using for the 260m.
btw awesome scores everone!!! makes me want to pop in my 260 again and try to beat you guys, hahahahha -
I gave it a shot with the same clocks as you, got exactly the same CPU score but your GPU was still 70pts ahead. I've oc'd higer but still my best GPU score is only 6031. You record stands for tonight but I attack again in the morning
-
lol I anticipate the challenge but as for going farther with stables clocks i will have to flash my gpu to get higher and better scores
-
OK, got my notebook cooler today (ZM-NC2000). This is my score with the cooler. Don't know if it helped, but really seems to keep the i7 920 and the 260 a little bit cooler especially when really under a heavy load.

wow, those are impressive scores for a stock run.
-
Thanks. I am curious as to what temp your 920XM runs at just for web browsing and general things, mine seems to stat between 40-50C, seemed a little on the warm side.
-
about the same the 920 runs hotter than most, i reapplied my thermal compound so i shaved off a few extra degrees. max operating temps of the 920 is 100 so your way beyond safe.
-
thanks, yeah things have died down recently since sleey0 is selling his. just when i start benching everyone else stops, go figure?
-
Well mate,
I've pushed it as far as I think I can. I reckon I did it justice.
Aussie Represent! -
yeah your scores are good bro, i'm hitting my limit too. guess i have to wait for a better driver.
wow nice scores smeggit, awesome!!!!1 -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The 260m is nice gaming card indeed! BTW, New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on earth imo! -
LoL, I used to get out and see it but now I just sit in front of a glowing laptop all day
-
Once somebody comes close to my 17060 3dMark score, Ill start benching again.
-
lol you beat my 06 score by 10 rofl
-
This is unfair! I cant get my lappy to score 13k in 3dmark06
I'm gonna have to work it out!
-
Nice job Smeggit! Your at the top of the boards in your catagory,
Scores have been updated. Here are the current rankings.
Smeggit was the only score I saw since tha last update. Nice job. +1 -
Yeah, you should be able to take back your title fairly quickly
I couldn't push my memory as high as you for the 3DMark06 test.
-
yea but i was having artifacts very frequent in the last test at that was crazy high oc and i could possibly only get better if i flash the bios for a steadier oc and most likely give me a better score in both 06 and vantage. btw still a great score for my system and yours to hit that is pretty good as the 920 can out do that no problem.
