yea stealth mode is on here's the forum to get the app to let you know if its on

get the version on this page as its the second version. should let you know when your laptop is in stealth mode which is a imo a waste of programming as you can't use it on battery.

    oc the gpu with nst

this tool allows you to oc the gpu. i recommend making an oc profile which you can load up without having to manually change the cocks each time and use the userdflt profile to switch back to normal clocks this handy trick is found in the start up menu under Nvidia nvProfile i suggest having a shortcut on your desktop for quick access.

also those scores are normal as i have the same system except for the 8gb of mem and the 500 gb hd.

Install Nvidia System Tools, and make sure you install the "Performance" aspect of it. Then in you control panel (desktop right click, go to Nvidia Control panel) there is now a "Performance" option on the left. Click that and you can change GPU clocks.

What is the danger of over clocking it too far?

possible fried card but i recommend not going past these clocks

    i use these myself 650/1100/1625.

going further has resulted in artifacts which is an indication that those clocks are unstable as not enough power is supplied to the card.

this however can be overcome by flashing the vbios to have a 1v instead of the stock setting to allow higher oc ability but you really shouldn't need it.

Realistically, There is no danger. Just keep an eye on temps. Don't let it get over 90*C. Worst thing that will happen is the display driver will fail and it will freeze.

I pushed mine to 935 for the 3DMarkVantage, and realistically the better your processor, the higher you can push it!
I didn't know I could change the shader.. but I don't plan to do more OC'ing.

Shader helps a lot with the 3DMark06 score. BUt it can only be changed on Nvidia cards. ATI cards you don't even have the option.

I tried OC'ing the 260 650/1100/1625 and benched with Mark06, my score was WAY lower. I was in the 13's, and dropped to the 11's. I watched the test, my max FPS was up in the high 90's and even hit 100, but the average FPS was down. It seemed like the stealth was on, but there was I know it was not. Strange..... I think I will just leave it on the factory settings, lol.

You should be hitting 13k with those clocks. Are you sure you didn't have Stealth mode enabled or were you running anything in the background. Virus Scan etc.

Also what driver version are you running?

Could be throttling.. The GPU sometimes downclock itself to avoid reaching high temperature, or just for the hell of it in that case.. It happens to me pretty often, download gpu-z and look at your clocks speed.
Shucks though, your clocks werent even going crazy fast, I've seen people going waaay over that, but it all depends on your GPU and your MOBO, some can handle more, some less!

Well, this is the best vantage score I can get. I can only reach 899/1110 for this 5870, the driver will be reloaded even if I raise 1mhz for the core.

Hmmm, yeah well first download the nvidia control pannel and enable the performance tab to modify your clocks speed.
Also install a newer driver, it'll put the clocks speeds back to normal. Run few games and make sure the clocks hit the 550/950/1350 (stock clocks).
Make sure physic X is enabled, it can only help when gaming.

Here's mine as a reference for the driver, the clock speed and the computing!

What's your secret man? I have same CPU as you but my CPU scores are like 1/2 of your scores (CPU Test 1: 727, CPU Test 2: 6.68 and my overall CPU score 5197).

..edit: nevermind...I started researching and discovered that somehow 2 of my cores were not functioning so fixed that. got closer to your score.
