I'm pretty happy right now, as I believe I have managed to push my Alienware M15x the fastest I can with a 820QM processor. I reckon I could push it still some way if I had a 920XM processor, but since I don't I'll have to contend with what I can.
Now, I did testing for close to 3 hours, mixing and matching, turning this off, turning this on to maximise performance. Then I put my alienware at an elevated angle, and faced it directly towards my portable aircondition, which was probably around 7 cm away. I then turned the temp down to 15 degrees (even though room temp was already 19 degrees, this was direct air, so better for fans, cooler temps).
Now the highest I've been able to push it clock speed wise is 900-910. This way I even managed to push it to 930 (only for 3dmark vantage on a 820QM). So you guys with 920XM processors, if you can do this.. you should have no problem winning that bag, if I managed to push it all the way to 930 clock. Lower temps with more airflow = win. (Hell i mean even the hot air was pushed back in mixed with the cool air).
So scores at the bottom, check them out

Nice gpu score! one of the best if I'm not mistaken

@ jubbing, that is a very high score for a 820QM system indeed! Great job!!
-
InappropriateName_3, What resolution are you running Vantage at that it's coming back with an overall score of 0?
-
ran it at 1600x 900 don't know why that happens, but i had one with the pscore on page 33. i always get a p score when i'm home but when i do benches at work i don't get it for some reason.
awesome scores jubbing, after i messed around with eleet all my cpu scores went up but my gpu scores went down. i can't get them both high at the same time. and now with eleet off i still get the same thing. thing were looking good yesterday untill i ran eleet.oh well -
internet port blocked maybe?
-
that could be it, no wifi at work and turn off my wireless card to save some juice for benching, hahah. thanks
wish i would of had the p score for that high bench but oh well -
1600x900? To qualify for the score board make sure they are run at 1280x1024. Also make sure you include a shot of CPU-Z or EVGA eleet in all your screen shots so that CPU clocks can be verified as well. Vantage should just be left at the default settings minus all the extra stuff at the end that doesn't need to be run.
-
thats the only reason i could think the overall score wouldn't show as future mark updates to the internet whenever you bench to their system database
-
hahahha all my 06 runs are on default. so those are ok. hahaha i failed.
-
Scores have been updated. Let me know if anything needs changing. I reviewed it a few times, but looking at it with all the coding gets confusing. I also double checked but it looks good.
Remember everyone. To qualify for the score board all runs must be done at the default settings of 1280x1024 and You must show GPU and CPU clocks. You can use CPU-Z and GPU-Z for this if your unsure. -
Hey DR650SE, you may want to update Page 19 with the new 5850 Video card. Shortly people are going to start acquiring those and benching them (myself included).
-
ok here are my latest runs on vantage and yes 1280x1024 this time around:
sorry forgot to add cpu-z but ran stock on the cpu.Attached Files:

i'm using the 10.3 right now, i tried the new 10.4 but it gave me lower numbers.
-
I ran my bench's with the Feature Tests enabled. Think i'd get better results without them? Or is there some requirements here as to what should and should not be enabled so there is no variation in the benchmarks. ( at least on my part ).
-
yeah most people run without them, plus the test takes forever with them enables.
-
Definately run without them. Pretty much a waste of time unless your interested in the info. Scores updated,
ATI 5850 section added. -
Okay, got my PhysX off
Here's Vantage and 06 running at 700/1100/1750 on a 260M & 720QM with DDR3 1333MHz Ram

heres my new 3Dmark 06 score physx off oced to 650/1100/1625
-
awesome scores guys, keep it up.
-
ok new bench I BROKE 13k !@#$@!Q@# no bios flash only nst
no physx oced 660/1125/1650
@DR650SE if you update the scores use only this one as to not crowd the board thnx -
-
wow thats close to mine but im wondering why your score isnt higher since you have the 820 proc
-
maybe cuz my clocks weren't as high as yours?
-
wow 2 people breaking 13k in the same day, nice.
-
new score a little bit higher
oced to 680/1175/1700
the memory clock got held at 1170 when set to 1175 in nst -
nice, have you tried running throttle stop at same time to see if it helps the cpu score.
-
nope as i haven't experienced any throttling so i don't know if it would help, but i'm done for benching today 6 runs and now i want to game on it lol.
i could try this the next time when i will be wanting to bench so will see next time if it changes or improves my score. -
Your last run seems to be beyond my system at stock voltages lol.
I'm trying a final run now at 660/1650/1125 -

well even with a bios flash i don't know how much further you could go without being hit by the invisible power supply limit imo. i know i can easily flash mine no prob and get heaps of more performance but im waiting on some more funds never like having too low of a bank acct to change the thermal paste(i hate high temps) and to buy a new mouse, external hhd so shipping is less overall. also im sure once you get the 5850 you will have a huge curve upwards in terms of performance and even if i have 5850 you would still out perform me due to your gpu and cpu having adequate power supplied to both of them 39(5850)<65(260m).
-
I'm extremely happy (and genuinely surprised) that my scores are competing with those with a 920xm (for the most part anyways), and would love to see more from those who have a 820 processor.
Although I wouldn't mind holding the title of the fastest 820 computer in the world (least from Alienware if not more). -
yeah you got really nice scores man, don't forget that the top gpu score is still sleey0 with a i7 620m.
-
I haven't forgotton.. he's putting us all to shame
I was referring to overall score as well -
-
it would be sweet if you would list your specs forest.
-
Specs are in member info page. But ok I added info to the post .
-
wow your specs are top notch. great setup man.
-
just did another 2 vantage runs: my best so far.

got very good deal at local dealer. normally I would't go such crazy configuration due to poor price/performance ratio.
yours 5870 is really good at Vantage. nice upgrade! -

-
yeah still same drivers, do you have a recommendation on drivers, the 10.4's isn't as good for benching but only tried like 1 or 2 runs before i ditched it.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It seems the 10.3 drivers are the best for benching. I haven't seen higher scores from any other driver...
-
thanks baby hemi, have you seen anyone break the 10k mark with a similar setup? i think i may be at the power limit for my laptop.
