Funny you mention that, I thought the M15x in my possession had throttling due to some hesitation until I realized it was the stupid McAfee software real-time scanning that you can't even turn off with msconfig. According to the GPU-Z tool it doesn't show any throttling under sustained load, was this only a problem with some of the M15x' or all of them at one time?

Haha, I uninstalled that immediately and never had throttling issues. Wouldn't it be funny if that was the cause rofl :)

OK, so I ran the benchmarks for CPU and GPU with 3DMark Vantage and I don't think the 240 card comes out of it too well:
    CPU: 11277
    GPU: 2172

Power settings on High Performance, the rest just stock settings, Stealth Mode was off and no one touched the machine while running the benchmark.

Now, whatever everybody says about the results, I'm absolutely happy with my machine and do not need a better card for what I use the computer for. I simply ran this benchmark so people would have an idea about the 240 card.
I hope this gives interested people some idea.

Is the 335M better than the 240? I'm not sure how they compare, but the 335M on my M11x scores about 3300, although thats overclocked. Did you run it at the default Vantage settings? Mine is linked in the sig. Default vantage 1280x1024 resolution on an external monitor.

No, I couldn't run default settings because of my screen resolution. I clicked options and the used the settings that appeared there (I could not change those settings). I don't know anything about OC'ing, so I didn't do anything like that. I did see later the MSE had run a scan at the same time as the benchmark, though. That might have made a difference. As far as the 335M card goes, I have only heard and read great things about the card, so it wouldn't surprise me if the card outperforms the 240GT.

In performance terms, the 335M supposedly falls between the 240GT and 250GTS (according to notebook check).

It's actually a new world record set the day before yesterday, using 4 GPU's (nVidia 480 I believe) and 2 CPU' in the machine. Virtually all world (vantage) records were broken.

Be nice if somone tracked the scores on page 1 like the other bench threads. I find that it makes it more competitive since others want to be on the list. Also be easier to see where people stand.

PM batboy and ask him. I am sure he will do it.

Might just have to pm him whenever you break a record or if you need him to add something to the front.

EDIT: I just sent him a pm to see if he would do that.

If somone steps up I'm sure BatBoy can move thier post to the front. I'd also send them the code for how I designed the M11x Benchmark tracking post. I just don't have an M15x.

Anyone want to step in and track the digits?

It really isn't much work. Although there might be sub sections for the 5870 and nvidia cards.

I just PMed Batboy. I'd like to take over tracking the scores for the M15x. The lack of organization is killing me. :p

For those interested in this thread, please PM me with suggestions as to what you would like to see in the score tracking.

Obviously there are going to be 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage catagories, but I need to know if you want it split up into catagories as far as GPU goes. Obviously the 5870 is going to be in a league of it's own. Let me know what you want to see as far as how many make the top scores, ect. Currently I am tracking the scores for the M11x benchmarks. I have put together a decent (I like to think) tracking post for the M11x.
Please check this out for a referance. *OFFICIAL* M!!x Benchmark Thread

Also, let me know what all you want to see as far as tracking goes. Also please keep in mind that I will be doing this in my spare time. Lately my job has kept me at work 15+ hours a day, 6-7 days a week, so there may be delays in updating, but I will try and keep up with it at least on a weekly basis, more frequently if I can swing it. Send me your ideas so I know how to format the tracking post.

Also, Keep in mind that I don't own (never have) an M15x, so I don't know much about it and have done very little reading on it. Not too familiar with the configurations.

Since it looks like I will be keeping the M15x now I am getting intrigued with the idea of swapping out the 260m for a 5870; maybe I'll contribute some benches.

I'd say you'd need to keep it split up by CPU+GPU. It was a bit meaningless to read someone had like 3K greater in score and when you checked they had an oc'd 920qm instead of a stock 720qm. Made comparisons and health checks nearly impossible unless one crawled the thread piecing the scores together.

Also, make sure they provide a clear screenshot of the cpu + gpu clocks (gpu/cpu-z) and score (vantage, 06, etc).

I did mine, so you can list me whenever you get a chance (it's in this thread a few pages back and I also have a link to my most current run in my sig).

Hmm.... I would think it would have to be a matrix of the three processors (just thinking R-2) crossed with the video card options. That's six combinations; if you factor in some form of SSD vs. HDD it doubles to twelve.... kind of hard to keep track now that I think about it

Maybe just a quick list of the scores by member and the key specs: CPU, GPU, HDD Type (SSD or HDD). I think it would be wise to include BIOS as well.

Sounds good, eventually I'll get to it, once I figure out what people want to see. I'll post rules, to include a clear screenshot with CPU-Z/GPU-Z and the score for verification.

EDIT:Since BIOS can be changed by the user, that won't be included unless you want to include it on the screenshot. Since SSD/HDD doesn't make any differance that will also not be included, but it breaks down to CPU/GPU which as you stated is six, but then twelve lists if 3DMark06 and Vantage is tracked for each one. Then included can also be 3DMark05, PCMark Vantage ect. Then it all depends on if somone wants a gaming benchmark section, which only makes sense, but then that would have to be broken down as well to satisfy everyone. As you can see it piles up. Gaming will likely be narrowed down to the top 3 scores per game regardless of hardware setup.

Can't you just take a peek out how the M17x Benchmarks thread is run (by drake)?

Might be easier seeing a format already in place. It's what I would do, anyways :)

Yea, and thats easy enough, and I have formatting from the M11x bench thread, which can be copy/pasted and tweaked, but I'm hoping more catagories would stimulate more interest in benching among M15x users  Especally since the M17x thread is only tailored to the 920xm users, which are few. Once I get the formatting down, which would take an hour tops, then it's al a matter of copy pasting peoples score. Although the first 20 pages of the thread would take a few hours to go through and verifiy everything. After that it's easy pesy

I'll work on some formatting tommorrow and see what every thinks. I should be caught up with work and all so I'll spend some time on it. Theres nothing to do out here anyway so it'll keep me from getting bored :p

    Edit:
Can some post a list of available CPU's/GPU's for the M15x?

    Is it the 260m, 280m and 5870?

    Not sure on CPU's either.

    ----------------------------------------------------
NOTE: When posting your benchmarks, please include a screenshot of your final score, along with CPU-Z and GPU-Z in your screenshot alongside your score. This is to verify your information. Without screenshots with the information, scores will not be included in the top 5. If you need an example please reference benchmark links in my sig. If you have questions how to get the screenshots, please PM me and I will explain it. This is not the case with gaming benchmarks that have in game benchmark tools. Please refrain from attaching large photos (greater then 500x500) causing slow load times and excessive scrolling. You can use links to your photos from sites such as imageshack.us. If you have qualified into the top scores, please PM me with a link to your post so that I may link your score in this post. I will try my best to update this post on a weekly basis. Please PM me if you wish to add something to the list and we can discuss it. Now let's have fun and push the system!

NOTE: Any images posted must be 500x500 or less. If larger, they will be removed by a moderator (see forum rules). For information on using thumbnail previews for large images, see here.

I think you should get rid of all the different combos.

Just have top 10 GPU scores and top 10 CPU score.

Then have a top 10 or more overall score for each benchmark.

And when you list the "username - score" just have the 2 main components next to it. For example, "sleey0 - 9654 [5870/620]" or something similar.

I really don't see the need for individual component brackets like that - its just too much to look at.

    Just my .02

Hey guys, just got my M15x. I've been experimenting with some overclocking, but I had a few more performance questions. First of all, should I install different video drivers? I was a tad disappointed with the performance of the 260M, even overclocked. It was an improvement over my 8600M, but not by as much as I thought it would be. Also, can anyone direct me to the stealth mode indicator app that someone had created?

The 260 is a mediocre card, really.

You should ask mandrake which drivers he used when he went bananas with the 280's in his old M17x.

IIRC there was an older driver that benched the best (186.xx I think).

great layout i agree with what sleey0 said about having each card individual score and the overall scores for each card makes it easier to follow and not so complex and would be a lot quicker for newer members to follow. also it would make people want to out do each other for example ;someone with an i3 tries to overclock someones score who has the i7 720. friendly competition of course :)

Sure, definately easier to remember and type ;) and I agree on the work. Doubtful many of the spots would be filled. I'm thinking of going with sleey0's suggestion and just breaking it down by card.

Post 1 updated with a link to the scores. Thanks BatBoy! I have also updated the format of the scores list. Let me know if you have any suggestions ;)

On an interesting note, it looks like "Side Topics" is being replaced with "Alienware Owners' Lounges and Large Threads " for the large discussion threads...

Edit: now it was changed to "Alienware Owners' Lounges, Guides and Large Threads" :p

Hmm this thread just got moved while I was typing :p

    Woohoo new sub forum.

Are you getting a M15x? Just wondering why you decided to keep track of the scores.

Nope, no plans on it. I'd browse through here just to see how the scores compared and the fact that there was no tracking was driving me crazy. I like things orgainized. Figured once the layout was done, it would be easy to maintain since this bench thread doesn't seem to be to active. The M15x crowd doesn't seem to be the benching type.
