i run bc2 at med/high setting using dx9, all maxed out is really choppy during intense fire fights. haven't played it while oc'ed yet but will gave it a try when i have some free time. if you like wm2 then i highly recommend this game also, pretty much the same thing but you can destroy almost everything in this game and alot more vehicle action.

You have got to be kidding!!! I'm not doubting you but this is becoming unbelievable. Maybe the reason not many people have a problem with theirs is because you are getting all the lemons. Hopefully #5 will be a winner or if it was me I would be looking for another machine. Fingers crossed for you.

Get Dante's Inferno. It's pretty much godofwar but a little diffrent.. you can download a demo on the playstation network. check it out.

Also i'd recommend assasins creed2...pretty awesome game

Yup That's the one... so has it solved the problem?

Now hold on are you talking about OC'd? I ran it OC'd and got much better fps...can't remember exactly right now, but i'll keep you updated. ANd it was Crysis (not warhead). Sadly, i don't got any of those games (mw2 on ps3, res5 on ps3...) but i have and play farcry2 alot... Get low-to-high 30s everything maxxed out ( even AA) when OC'd.

And hey i just Downloaded Borderlands today and that game is friggin addictive! Played it 5 hours straight! AWESOME game... anyone have it? you can play co-op or muliplayer on it... would be cool to try! PM me if you don't have it... i can help you out ;). I want a game buddy :).

But yea borderlands isn't very demanding...and get 45-60fps on stock clocks...everything maxed!

You do have to go in the .ini files to tweak the game before you play it though...because it looks like crap at first, and all the graphic settings are in the .ini files...

Bad Company 2 is a GREAT game.

The game runs better if you just force DX9 on it.

I have to agree, to have it 5 times and still be ho-hum about it  . I'm sure most people are having a great experience with theirs.

Most people who had this many returns would be annoyed at this point. At least ask for more than just a replacement!

Perhaps you're Buddhist, have bought the M15x as a spare machine or you're working for a competitor to Alienware and trying to scare away their potential customers :)

Don't believe it folks, it's a solid built machine for most of us, or is it just mine?

I just bump down the res to 1280x720.. I know it's a pity in some ways, but it's still HDReady gaming, so fine for me. If it runs smooth at 720 instead of choppy at 1920 then I'm happier with the better visual quality and slightly lower res.

720 makes many games more readable also, 1080 can be a bit much for text and stuff sometimes ;)

I'm not really a resolution junky- prefer visual quality and frame-rate combo over highest res. (I'm already defending myself cos I expect to be attacked as a resolution-blasphemer lol)

Nooo ideaaa....could be another while.. but patience is a virtue, and i'm sure it'll be worth it... or you can just get one now, with advanced care...and when a new one comes out... smash your laptop, and have them replace it :p hehe...it never gets old :D

LOL dont give me ideas...but I've been waiting so far, so I can still wait for a bit. Regardless even now the GTX 260m is pretty solid. I'm guessing in the refresh the M15x will likely get the 5850, which even with GDDR5 is not much faster than the GTX 260m

    This review:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Alienware-M15x-Gaming-Notebook.22280.0.html

Seems to suggest that power supply gets up to 56.9 °C, I assume under load. That sounds very hot, almost hot enough to burn yourself, especially for little kids. Can anyone comment on how hot the power supply gets.

That review also says the bottom of the machine gets to about 48 °C under load. That is also very warm. Is that your experience? If so I guess no-one is using this on their lap?

Yeah it is, indeed very hot on the bottom. But man this thing is huge, I rarely place it on my laps, and when i do im not playing games, so it does not get much hotter than any other laptop... Unless you're naked, you should not have prob with heat!

Actually VBM19D1Q is the firmware and if you've got an SSD from Dell with this it means you've got no TRIM and currently no comeback short of getting it replaced. I think you can expect to have this is if you ordered last year. I've seen more recent Dell Samsung SSD (as in February 2010) with VBM24D1Q, which apparently does support TRIM. See this thread:

Should fit it nice and snug, as the notebook compartment is just short on the depth and width of the laptop, but not by much. You got an extra inch on length though, so you should be good. I fit mine in a bag made for a laptop with smaller dimensions than this one, and it still managed to fit. ( just just though, but thats how i wanted it :p)
As long as you don't got the bulky 9cell batt, that is...

    Yeah

works solid here.. patched up to the latest (1.7 is it?)..

I played it through then went back and modded it with 20+ mods. Then it crashes sometimes.

Did you change any settings? I was using the 195.62 driver..

hmm, didn't really change anything. when i play it i'd get random 1 fps outta no where then there's times where it just freezes and i gotta close with task manager. I'm also using the 195.62 drivers and patch 1.7. i tried turning vsync off seeing how it helped some but guess not me and tried setting the affinity for the cores which just made it crash quicker.

What settings are you using for your game Mr Pras?

No worries mate after all the help you've provided around here we're happy to forigve you such a minor mistake.

I've just had a clean install of Windows 7 etc. After my previous problems with Aliensense not working from the previous clean install, happy to say this time no problems (don't know why).

But I've another issue: shortly after checking out Display / Calibrate color, my M15x displays only grey colours! Using 192.62 drivers. Have reinstalled the drivers to no avail. Interestingly, every time I boot up I've got colour until just after the login screen, when the desktop appears. Then I've got colour for a few seconds before the screen refreshes and it's all grey again. Bizarrely the external display still manages to show full colour. I've tried changing the colours in NVIDIA Control Panel but no cigar.

    Any help appreciated.

Actually solved for now at least after uninstalling and installing drivers again (one more time with feel!) and it's colour again.

Hey guys does anyone know if the mobo on our laptop supports port multiplier for the eSATA port? Im planning on buying the Thermaltake BlacX Duet and people are saying you need port multiplier support on your eSATA to be able to use both HDD bays at the same time. USB connection have no problem though but eSATA is for the win(transfer speed)! M15x will benefit from this device since we can only put 1 HDD in our machine... specially to us using SSD drives with very limited space. BTW this thing supports 2.5" & 3.5" HDD!

Anywho does our eSATA port support port multiplier?

Multitouch with two or three finger!!
this is not the official update but it work great :)
It make the scrolling easier than using the scrolling Region with one finger

When you use one finger it's like you use the mouse normaly and when you use 2 finger in same time it scrolling in the direction you want.

I also feel that the touchpad is smoother than before. But I can be wrong for this point because I wasn't using much

    enjoy

I repeat, this is NOT an official update ^^ I found it in the web

The multitouch work well, but it cannot zoom like the Iphone. which is not important. You can scroll easly than before and you can configue the three finger touch.
I'm not a native english speaker, I can't explain well how it work. sorry

i have the firmware on a disk but didn't bring it with me to work, if your still unable to download and can upload it for you tonite.

i tried out scribe about a week ago, and it wasn't to smooth on the M15x because of the synaptic driver and the M15x doesn't mix well.

don't know what you did wrong, but it was a breeze for me to install it ! Make sure u did the following:

    1. Download the driver provided by Gruiik.
    2. Go to Control Panel/Programs and Features/ and find the Synaptics driver, and uninstall it.
    3.Restart.
4.Install the new driver you just downloaded.
    5.Restart.

and Bingo! You're done! 2finger scrolling is enabled by default. To enable 3 finger swipes (which is awesome for picture slideshows and browsing! havign so much fun hehe lol) Go to:

1.Taskbar and click the little arrow near the batt meter and time, to show hidden icons.
2.Right-click synaptics icon and then click "Pointing Device Properties"
    3. Click the "Device Settings" tab ( the last one).
    4. Click the "Settings" button.
    5. This now opens all the setting options for this device! Tweak as you want! But for the 3finger swipe go to the last option "Application Gestures/Three-Finger Flick and make sure there's a checkmark in the box.

There's even a short video that shows you how to do the gesture so that it works properly.

If you did all these steps, it'll work 100%. Let me know if you STILL can't get it to work :)
