I find it better than before...by how much i'm not sure... its hard to tell....because i hate using touchpads to begin with...maybe its not the best touchpad in the world... but its definately worth installing the new drivers...After all.. you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain :D

I would suggest everyone to download and install them no questions asked.

Eh, installed the multitouch drivers, and they're just as bad as before. But the added functionality is interesting. I'll stick to the mouse though.

Just got this backpack. Anyone here own it? I've read great things on this forum about it, but mainly for M17x owners.

I just overclocked my GPU. Is 80 degrees celcius acceptable? That's the temperature i'm getting after about an hour or so on bad company 2.

Yes, It is acceptable.. But if you have a 9 cell battery it gives you more air flow and the temperature is much lower.

I have a 6 cell battery but usually have a book beneath the laptop to provide more air flow. My GPU temp are like 68-72 but if I don't do that my GPU peaks at 79-80 degrees. The GPU are rated for 110 degrees after that throttling occurs to lower the temps down and the laptop eventually shuts down. (do not cover the air vents, place it in between the two vents. Usually use a a4 size book to provide more stability).

also looking for a used 9 cell battery for m15x, so i do not need to use a book all the time when i am overclocking.

Btw what clocks did you hit (stable)..

may as well get a laptop cooler be cheaper than a 9 cell, and also helps with oc temps. yeah 9 cell does provide better cooling though.

you know what's strange...After OCing my GPU, even though i only left it on OC'd once for about 1.5hrs to game....and since have always used my stock clocks ( even for gaming as borderlands doesn't require the xtra boost)...i find my gpu reaching higher temps than be4 i OC'd...

I used to never see my temp go over 68 even playing Crysis...now im regularly seeing 73-75 degrees playing borderlands...

    Anyone's take on this?

Borderlands --- more GPU intensive. that is why you get more temperature when you are running Borderlands.

I ran Borderlands O.C. GPU @650/1125/1625 temperatures around 80 degrees...... ran crysis OC around 68 - 70 degrees. Ran BFBC2 O.C. arnd 66-68 degrees. It is different for different games...

Just googled it!!! many have reported high temperatures when playing borderlands as compared to crysis. Not only does Borderlands use the UT3 engine, which is demanding on its own, but it uses cell-shading, dynamic shadows, high particle counts, bloom, ambient occlusion, and large textures. Those combined can really tax a system. ...Check this out

    Borderlands: Just GPU intensive...

Wow nice findings man! Thanks alot bro! You really got rid of some worries i was having...

Thing is since i would get like 40-60fps everything maxed ( im sure i'd get more but vsync locks FPS at your screens refresh rate) playing Borderlands, i would've thought it was much easier on the gpu. Guess not.

Again thx for your posts! i'd give you rep if i was allowed to, but i will when i can :) .. i Was about to start ripping out parts and applying an UBER THICK layer of Artic Silver LOL...i get pissed when things run hot. I like 'em nice n COOL :D

I am tellin' ya... This thing is a cooling beast..... High 60's even when O.C. on maxed out setting on the most demanding games.. IS AWESOME!!!!!

I tried maxed out settings (1920x1080 Qx16 AA and 16x AF HBAO off Vsync on) on BFBC2 with GPU O.C. @ 650/1125/1650 it gives around 25 -35 fps... dipping to 21-22... and is pretty smooth... you could lower the AA and AD to 2 or something it doesn't really make a huge difference. Since 1920x1080 on 15 inch screen u don't need that much of AA... in BFBC2 it doesn't make a difference.. Atleast I couldn't see any difference in q16x and 2x....

Lowering AA gives you a solid 35 fps..... and if you want more fps lower your res to 900p... get around 40-45 fps and get few dips of 35....

There is more bass in the output for the earphones which they can't handle since it is the output for C SUB... when there should be 2 more 3.5 mm panels which not listed in the m15x which has sound problems ...

Nothing to do with drivers... Installed the same drivers look at the driver version.. also compared the hardware IDs, they are same as well...

reading from other post about all these audio problems. all of these seem to be from the current batch of M15x within the past few weeks to now. could there been some kind of hardware revision in these newly received ones.

I think i overclocked my GTX 260m a little too much. My screen started flashing, so I restarted but now i can't do anything with nTune. Any changes i try to apply will give me an error "the changes made were invalid". I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. I also tried using Rivatuner, but my settings don't save after I hit apply and they reset to default settings. Any idea whats causing this problem?

EDIT: I forgot to add that right now I'm getting really bad framerates in games that I can normally play.

Uninstall the drivers and select delete the driver files from computer... Restart...

Use CCleaner or driver sweeper to clean all the registry..

    uninstall ntune use ccleaner...

    Restart and install drivers

    Restart again and install ntune....

    Might help this way....

I wouldn't worry if your temps were below 100...it shouldnt have dmagaed the card...( if it was only for a short while) .. Try what whitewiz said it shoudl fix it...

OK!! the same audio problem is there with Jesse who opened up another thread and checked his audio settings as well... It shows only Csub..... The same problem... All the other forum members have the same issue I think.....

    ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS...

    1. Connection between motherboard and I/O board loose or faulty.
    2. I/O board faulty.
    3. Motherboard faulty.(highly unlikely would notice some other inconsistencies)
    4. Some problem due to M15x chasis.. building up of static (some part touching the motherboard ..the capacitors - highly unlikely too but may be the case)...

I ended up returning my M15x a while back. I couldn't wipe out the hard drive since the computer doesn't even start. If Dell does sell the returned products as refurbished, they do wipe out the HD and do a clean OS install right? I've been worried about this a bit. I mean I don't have too much personal information but most of the application I used had saved passwords on it.

Yeah I just changed most of my password. I didn't have the best experience with returned products. One time when I returned my cellphone as a defect, 2 weeks later I got a call from somewhere in the east saying they got my phone with all my information still on it. I politely asked them to delete everything. I'm from California so I was a bit stunned with the fact that some companies sell products without wiping everything out.

Yea i know what you mean... i bought a set of 4 Panasonic house phones once, supposedly "brand new" and when i got home n plugged them in, they had a full phonebook, missed calls, and everything. Returned it, sales guy was more confused than i was lol...anyways they eventually gave me new ones.

But yea, you never know what gets erased or what doesn't. In the case of your hard drive, they can't sell it like that, even refurbished. So i wouldn't worry, as they're going to erase everything and do a clean install... so no worries bro :) I used to work at bestbuy YEARS ago... The techs only go through your stuff when you bring it to them to repair...and even then its only to find dumb things to pass the time ....You'd be surprized how many woman have ***what i wanted to say got erased by the mods*** naughty pics, videos, websites (that'll do i guess) on their pcs...and what kind of freaky things theyre into....im talking about... married middle-aged soccer moms... mm mmm mm.. gotta love em milfs LOL...gd times...

^^^ LOL! As long as they wipe out the drive then sell the product. I don't want the next buyer of my computer to find my "secret stash" ;) . Heck, you never know a kid might buy the computer and open up the stash and bam! His mother walks in! Imagine how he tries to explain it was already there while his parents are in shame. I am so pissed at dell because their estimated delivery date is so screwed up. The estimated delivery date was on 4th of april but they suddenly shipped it on the 19th without telling me and I am going to be out for the whole week, I am going to be back on the 30th of march. Now I have to have it held in the fedex facility. Oh, and I do not trust fedex AT ALL because they just leave the package in front of my door. Has anyone held a package in the shipment facility and is it safe there? Do I have to schedule the pick up or just have it held there and pickup whenever I want? Are there any services that could ship my package from the facility to the original address later on(delayed shipment?) for a fee? Please and thank you very much because I am freaking out since I would kill myself if i lose my $3,700 beast. T_T

Anyone else having problems with their M15x optical drive rattling? I can tap anywhere on the front end lightly and with or without a CD loaded you can hear a distinct rattling. Now this computer has never been dropped and has been handled with absolute care since I got it in December. Now even as I'm typing I can hear that distinct rattling.

Yes you can call the 800 # at Fedex and give them your tracking # and other details they request and they will arrange for your package to be held at the closest Fedex in your area. Trust me, it is very safe with Fedex. When I picked mine up you would have thought I was trying to get in the White House.
