Try uninstalling NST, run CCleaner, restart, run CCleaner, and then reinstalling NST. I had that issue some pages back and thats what was suggested to me and it worked.

If you have the money to spare, then I would take the 250GB HDD (or the cheapest avaialble) and go for SSD 250Gb. Also, unless you are doing some memmory intensive apps (e.g. Vide editing or VM's) you wont need more than 4GB.

Finally, the M15x looks a lot better (to me) than the Asus, and I have had better experience with AW than with Asus

Can you overclock to numbers less than that? If you can't overclock at all another thing to consider is the presence of stealth mode (make sure it's turned off!).

Hrmm I think i solved it. I DL'ed rivatuner just to see what the clocks are at. And it looks like it the Nvidia tool won't let me put the memory clock past 950. I doubled checked in the hardware montioring with with rivatuner and the clocks are 648/950.4/1620. So i guess everything is ok, just need to monitor temps now.

    *EDIT*

Hrmm after a few reboots everything is working as it should for some reason... Oh well :) I settled on OC'ing the card to 600/1000/1500.

Hey, just came back with a razer DeathAdder.
Pretty happy with my purchase, I dont think the Mamba was worth the extra 100 bucks..
I'm now lurking to find a bluetooth mouse that I can bring with me when I'm moving!

    thanks for your advices.

yeah pretty much the same for me, using deathadder and orichi. if orichi was the size of the deathadder then it would have been perfect for everything.

EDIT: isn't it just CRAZY how torrents eat up ur bandwidth? downloading 3 blu-ray movies and when web surfing sometimes it says "page cannot be displayed". LOL. a quick refresh solves it tho.

i have a suspicion its because with the i7's, when your cpu load is low, it downclocks your cpu, tricking dpc checker that you have a slow one core pc that can't handle media streaming lol, vs an ultra fast i7 lol... so i wouldn't worry about it in real-time. I dj and this thing never skips a beat bro...

I'm getting the same yellow spikes... don't worry

Hey guys, so I've been following some of the older threads, and I just now got some money I saved up for a new lappy.
But now I'm torn apart between waiting the M15x having new graphic cards or just buying now the Alienware M17x with double cards.
    What do you guys think?
PM me for suggestion so we don't flood with spam the forum

im all good except for the occasional uber spike of doom which sends a nasty noise through my headphones so should i do another fresh install and install the drivers in a particular order
stealth isnt on and high performance makes them happen even farther apart

before another fresh install.... id try uninstalling the IDT drivers...rebooting and seeing if the problem happens with the windows default drivers.

That way we could narrow it down, as to where the problem is :)

    didnt really pay attention but
    osd
    audio
    chipset
    video
    lan adapter
    wireless card
i really was hap hassardly doing a fresh install so im thinking if i have a specific order i would go in that order other than that everything is good except for a single stuck pixel to right area of my screen
ok ill unistall the idt drivers brb

yup what jstar said but list what drivers you are using and the order you installed them.

chipset should always be installed first and osd and command center last. somethime if you do command center first it will cause issues with other drivers.

Lapo you don't gotta worry bout spamming here :) we aint like those other forums, with a bunch of kids talking nonsense. we all family here :)

And if i were in your shoes? as hard as it might be... i'd wait for the gpu refresh... but thats just me...

crossfire and sli configs aren't supported by all games and some games don't get a substantial boost from it. So i'd always prefer having one MOTHER of a card, instead of two solid, but not quite as good cards....

Single gpu card configs work in every game...whereas cf, sli configs don't. ya know what i mean?

5870's in CF on the other hand...now thats just INSANITY :D :D :D :D hehe

yup M15x with 5870 and 900 screen will be almost as powerful as M17x with 4870's in 1200dpi.
and M15x are way more awesome then M17x owners, lol

Yeah it makes sense to wait, it's just I'm so excited about the fact that I'm now able to afford such a laptop that I would LOVE to have one now, but I'll just wait until they offer new GPUs, hopefully before the end of summer!
    Thanks for your help pal!

yeah i have the unknown device too. so that shouldn't be an issue. i guess you have to uninstall each at a time to see which driver could be causing the problem.
or it could just be a bad i/o card, which a few owners had a problem with.

well this systems gonna be replaced cause of a stuck pixel tried JCscreen even hard reset which worked last night but come this morning it was back but not as obnoxious. so im not worried about this but the number of times i see the 66000 spike is a lot less since uninstalling idt drivers
