all of these have mxm 3.0 type connections, so they should work, but only the 280 has been proven to work on the M15x.

Anyone knows if the GTX 240 can be upgraded in the new M15x? Is it built into the motherboard or what?

    Thanks

It can be upgraded, as it is not built into the motherboard, but it's much less expensive (and much easier) to buy the computer with the 260 rather than upgrading it yourself later.

I received my Dell outlet m15x yesterday, and it has a dead pixel. :(

I read some forums online about possible fixes (software and hardware), does anyone have any experience fixing a dead pixel on these 1080p glass covered screens? Any help is appreciated!

Also, wonder if its worth returning for that problem??

okay, is it a dead pixel or a bright pixel?

dead pixel - always dark - (use a completely white background to see it)
bright pixel - always lit lit up - (use a completely black background to see it)

You may be able to fix a birght pixel with UDPixel ( http://udpix.free.fr/) if you use it for long enough. Sometimes they go away forever, sometimes they come back after the lcd has been off for sometime.

I dont know if you get the full dell warranty on a refurbished machine, but the dell warranty (for the alienware machines) states that you are eligible for a screen replacement if you have even 1 bright pixel. With dead pixels, you need to have at least a group of these.

Unfortunately it is very hard to "massage" the screen because of the glass cover. In my case, when I had a bright pixel, I first tried UDPixel, which worked, but the pixel kept coming back. Then I called up Dell and after an hour on the phone explaining that I am indeed eligible for a replacement, they replaced the screen without any problem.

    Hey, Good news.

It would seem that you are eligible for a screen replacement. According to this:

and then just use this policy for dead pixels. The page refers to the M17x but its exactly the same as for the M15x.

dell has a pretty good policy on dead pixels, just gave them a call, should be repaired the next day in most cases.

thanks a lot guys, very helpful.

also, I was wondering which DP to HDMI adapter everyone was using... I read here that you can call Dell and request an adapter when you receive your new m15x, but I doubt that will work since I purchased mine at dell outlet.

any popular adapter other than the one provided by dell?

It seems to look fine, but I cannot give you any guarantee as I have not used it. Also, I prefer it to be a cable for two reasons:

    1) harder to get lost
    2) less stress on the port.

but I guess its up to what you prefer

steam is probably the best place to go. most of the time they have demos for the new games, so you can try out before you buy it. and once in awhile they would have awesome sells.

It seems like I ordered only a couple of days ago because that is exactly what happened.

3.5 days from day I ordered --> boxing (Monday) and shipped today (Wednesday) :) So only 2.5 days in boxing, too.

    Specs are lunar shadow, 620, 240 (5870), 250GB 7200 RPM (either 160GB G2 or 256GB Samsung SSD), 5300 (6300).

Everything in () I have and am swapping into the machine as soon as I open the box.
