try using a old setting and editing that one.

My fans go nuts while gaming on BC2, temps are in the 60s. Is there anyway to control em?
-
fans are suppose to full blast when gaming that why your temps are low.
-
I would recommend only using Rivatuner if your staying stock...but if your going to OC, then only use NST. -
anyone here that also has an M11x, posted this wuestion in the M11x owners lounge but never got a reply. how is the audio on it, planing on using it as a media center for my car.
-
I dont get it, simply closed and restarted my control panel and it worked.. even though I had done it before..
Baw, anyway gotcha, now running OC-ed and smoothly, still confused though! -
-
ok so i've been searching and havent found anything bout the sound card malfunctioning... so u should be good
-
sweet thanks bro. and yes money does grow on trees here also in canada too,lol you just gotta know what kind to grow. hahah just thinking about replacing my old pioneer z2 and put in my stock deck. thinking of selling my z2 for $500 and chip in a few hundo more for the base M11x. and no i'm not super rich, i'm just plan regular rich, hahahah. i work 6-7 days a week man, let me enjoy my money.

still drooling over the idea of a 5870...
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
and yes i agree... only experienced throttling with prototype and you can't tell while playing the game ... you have to look at the logs. All other games like bfbc2, mw2, nfs shift.. everything runs fine.. even Just cause 2 runs smooth for me but with OC gpu... -
I'm having the same problem that soccerthiery was having. WHen I try to OC in NST, I get the "The changes made were invalid and will not be applied" error. I don't have RivaTuner installed either.
I've also tried uninstalling both NST and the drivers, then reinstalling and it still happens. -
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
1. Uninstall NST
2. Run CCleaner
3. Uninstall Nvidia GPU driver from device manager and tick the option to delete driver files from computer
4. Restart
5. Run CCleaner
6. Install GPU driver 197.xx
7. Restart
8. Install NST.
9. Restart -

Damn Man.... UPGRADES!!!!
Stuck between 5870 and SSD... or both lol!!!! -
given it a try right now..
-
hey you only live once, you may be broke but you'll be happy, lol -
5870 for sure. -
It worked! Thanks wizard
-
Oh also, I'm out of cash for my laptop, already put 3000$ in it and as I'm barely 17, I cant buy anything... YET. -
I don't know why you guys say you don't see throttling in BC2... to me it's quite evident.
-
-
SoccerThierry,
You don't need to solder anything to swap the GPU in the M15x. It's simply a plug n play operation (if you have the right heatsink, which you do). -
Just ordered me a new Timbuk2 bag, since my old one was a medium, and I think I'll need a large for the M15x. It's pretty awesome, I made a custom bag with them, so it's nice and personalized
I'll be sure to post pics of my whole setup when my M15x arrives- I just wish I didn't have to wait any more, it's torture
And this HP mini is starting to get more and more annoying every day.
-
lol jwest i know that too. i cant wait any longer either wish the thing was here already
-
As far as overclocking. The last I asked about it, the GPU couldn't be overclocked too much because of the voltage. Joker did post up a procedure to change the voltage on the GPU to allow further overclocking. Since I'm a complete O/C'ing noob, I decided to stay away from that type of change. Are things different now, can I just use NST and start testing, or are all of you doing that procedure to up the GPU voltage?
-
Pretty sure most do it without the voltage change. Temps get pretty toasty using the latest furmark on extreme burn, 16xAA on native resolution. But I haven't reached those numbers in actual gaming.
-
Although, I am getting old (almost 29) so I might not notice it. -
Just got an email from one of the reps who's been helping me. Apparently the 620M is on backorder, as is the keyboard (the keyboard? really?). I have been assured that my order will be on expedited production once the parts arrive, but this kind of sucks
-
^^^ dude thats a bummer, nevered would of guessed they were out of keyboards.lol
-
-
just was called by the rep who i called on friday who told me that its now in the final production stage and should ship in 2-3 days WOOHOO. -
wow 5870 in M15x is insane, just saw an oc'ed benchmark over 9k and a non oc'ed at 7k.

hopefully by end of the week or beginning next week. man can't wait.
-
Well, officially moving from the Dell XPS forum to the Alienware forum,.
Just got approval to replace my Studio XPS 1645 with an Alienware M15x. -
wow congrats man!! you'll love it
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Congratz man!!! you are the second person to get a dell 1645 replaced with a m15x....
-
Ya I can't wait, it can't get here fast enough. Now to sift through 4 threads of issues to see what I can look forward to. Unless someone wants to give me a rundown of things I need to look out for/do.
If any of you are familiar with the 1645 then you'll know about its throttling issues and "resolutions" so that being said anything similar (i know about throttling issues that some complain about) is there anything else? -
I almost bought a SXPS also, but I changed my minds when I saw a great deal on dell.ca, it was a good idea
Congratz!
-
here is the oc'ed bench:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48588 -
Ohh, gotcha
Damn, thats more than 3k over the 260M scores O_O -
whenever there is a stall in production, especially for replacement units, the CSR standard response is that the Keyboards are back ordered -- I found it hard to believe also but didn't help me get the system any faster -- Dell has it set up so that your rep who is taking the order can not access the information on the build so they can not verify which components are back ordered either -- if there is a good side to things, the new units do have keyboards that are better quality than those in the original units shipped in the Fall.
I am also another xps to M15 replacement beneficiary: once Dell has stepped up and given you a replacement M15 it does tend to bias you to view the corporation more favorably! -
So out of curiosity has anyone gotten an i3/i5 model and tests the battery life?
I remember when I was looking into this notebook when they had i7 and the battery life was poop. -
Well on the i7 the battery life was like 1 hour gaming, 2 hours basic stuff. I got the i3 because I don't need the extra speed or extra cores now. I got the 9 cell as well and I'm estimating perhaps 2 hours 45 minutes browsing with my SSD.
-
Hopefully everything goes well and I get my new PC without anymore issues (on the phone now having them re process the order with the correct parts) -
-
oh I don't have mine yet, it's on order. I got the 260m to make up for the i3. I'll upgrade via ebay when I decide to go the 5870 route.
Anyone got a list of the cards that do work on the M15x? I know 240m, 260m, but what about 280m, 285m, or even the 360m? -
Ah okay gotcha
