I've ahd better scores, I dont get why, but my gpu is going nuts. When I try to overclock it too much it seems to block, and I get a low score.. With 650/1100/1500 I got 12k, when tried to push it a little further( 675/1150/1600) I got less than 10k![]()
Though the temp was quite low and all!![]()
Could it be a driver issue?

after measuring my m15x nameplate it was about 1.5 x 2.5 inches.
-
-
>.> That would be stupid.. My cpu never got over 70 degrees and it rarely goes up 60...
Baw, anyway, there's not need to overclock it like that, its just for benchmarks and all -
Thanks steelcurtain11 for the measurement. I appears to be the same size nameplate.
SoccerThierry, I suspect it's either an unstable GPU OC or you are throttling during benchmarks at higher clocks. Just a theory. -
what villosa said
-
I just ordered my M15x and it is already in boxing
3.5 days!!
I wish Dell was able to get the R2's out as quickly as the M15x... -
I'm sending mine back. I'm going to wait for a refresh on the M11x.
-
YAY
My Baby finally landed a couple of hours ago!!
Funny was that it is about 15mm bigger in every dimension than my gf's 17" toshiba, and twice as thick, and twice the weight.
Damn it is heavy but also equally solid and I am sure it could take some punishment too, feels almost like made out of one piece.
But I do have a few questions, I have a clicking sound and small give in the keyboard where the arrow key blank spacers are, and if I press on this area it makes a kind of click.
Another thing I noticed is that the intake vents clatter if tapped just lightely, do you guys also have this?
I read some people got rid of the give in the keyb by having it replaced.. But I did not see anyone talking about the clatter at the intakes.. -
Mine has slight flex by the arrows along the lower right.
-
called dell to see what is taking so long with my order guy comes up with the same excuse then after some badgering he caved and told me that it would be shipped Thursday finally some good news -
seems like A05 did something, now all my benchmarks are much lower, so weird but gaming has been smoother.
-
Hey everyone...haven't been on in a while but i did skip through the posts i missed....
And by intake vents do you mean the two vents facing you that light up? Those are actually speakers and intake vents are on the bottom lol. But if you do mean those, then yes, if you press right over them, you do hear some creaking...im assuming everyone's does...and pretty sure its normal as well...
Just remember plastic will always flex...so its normal... that being said... its still the best built laptop i've ever seen -
EDIT: hey tuenkamen, D3 coming out december 31st? REALLY? or is it going to get pushed back another decade... LOLL -
wow bro!!! answered ever question in one swoop, lol.
yeah using newest driver, doesn't bother me that much because it doesn't really affect gaming but just thought it was strange. thinking of puting in a 5870 soon, saw one on ebay the other day. -
Patient: Doctor, doctor it creaks when I push the intake vents
Doctor: Don't do it then! -
I had the keyboard flex problem too. I just removed it and bent it a bit until the flex was gone. It's perfect now.
-
-
Or maybe if i sell my 260? How much do you think i can sell a 2month old 260m for? 250? 300?
-
-
Still, 3.5 days? That's frickin' lucky.
-
yea i was wondering how in the world sleey0 getting his right away in under 7 days
-
don't really recommend selling the 260 for warranty purpose. but if you do $300 is a good price since nvidia cards always sell for more anyways. i just ordered the 5870, hope all goes well with it.
-
-
should be a similar or same card,
hey J want to help me put together a petition that we can send to dell and engadget about the throttling issue. since i'm not very good at wording and spelling, lol. -
Where you buy it off of?
And as for the petition...id be glad to helpbut i doubt they'd give a rats ___ about what we have to say..
-
How much is this worth?
A newly factory refurbished Alienware M15x with 2 year accidental coverage still active meaning if you run this over with your car you are guaranteed a replacement
i7-920XM extreme Processor
4GB 1066 RAM
512 GB Video card GT 240
1600x900 Res Screen -
Meh, i dont know, the GT240 is a bummer.. But with the 920XM, it worths at least 2k..!
-
yeah just wanted to do something since everyone seem to complain about it, may as well try something better than doing nothing. -
@ Anand00x ..ran that config quick quick assuming 250gb harddrive, and dvd burner.. i got $2,949 Canadian before tax. the 920 and 2yr adv care bring its value WAYY up.
@ Inap... damn 420 sounds like a sweet deal hehe...As for warranty...are you keeping your 260m incase you decide to send to back to dell for repair? think they'd be able to tell you swapped it out for a 5870m? i think im just going to wait untill dell releases them. After all, i dont game all that much and the 260m is enough for me at the moment... although i do REALLY REALLY want onelol
I got to many upgrades to make
from the blu-ray player, to the SSd, to the 5870m...were talking about $1300-$1500 worth in upgrades...sheesh...ohwell il keep dreaming...
Damn man your setup with the 5870m is going to be rediculous! you have everything!! your laptop going to be worth like... 5000? LOL -
420, thats a good price, and an awesome number as you stated
Your M15x will probably be the best in the world after that upgrade, you realise that right?
You just need 8gb of ram and you're all set -
-
-
Yeah Jstarnino, these update are costly! Just bought a SSD since it's supposed to be he best upgrade possible for laptops.. Will eventually consider a new gpu but I think my habilities with soldering and computer hardware are too limited! :O
As for the Blu-ray reader, I will probably end up buying an external BR Reader/Burner the prices are going down pretty significantly! -
hey guys try to make a petition so you think i should add a poll of some kind?
-
yes ask everyone to poll in we should actually make a petition to finally relieve what more and more people seem to be experiencing as "throttling" with a05 when playing video games and benchmarking cause the gpu to run at below 100%
-
This petition is going to be a tough one for Dell to accept. I'll think about it over lunch and will get back to you. I'm a future M15x owner (still haggling for lower prices lol) with an i3 (shouldn't throttle at all) but I want everyone to have a perfect machine.
-
yeah if anyone has a suggestion on what the poll should look like please let me know.
-
i dont know how to go about creating an online poll so that we can get everyone voting....but i would structure the poll quesiton somewhere along these lines:
"Would you consider buying from Dell again after their negligence towards resolving the throttling issues present in their Alienware M15x line, despite the numerous complaints/requests to address this issue from current costumers?"
WIth : 100% NO | 0% yes | 0% maybe
Total : 100,000 votes
MAYBE they'd do somehting about it then.. but even then i doubt it.. loll
I'd say out best shot is to make them realize that they won't be securing long-term customers if they keep ignoring this issue, as they should know Long-term returning costumers are highly Valuable to any business. -
I honestly can't understand why they wont own up and just fix it. It sounds so simple...
-
Hmm will try the bending the keyb thing to see if it fixes the flex.
But JS, I wasnt referring to the speakers on the front, the intake vents on the bottom toward the back.
They soft of clatter when I handle the laptop which takes a bit away from the otherwise really solid feel. I think I'm going to pull the cover off and check if the grill stuff inside is loose somehow or something like this. That's what it sort of sounds like, the metal mesh grill tapping on the magnesium around it...
Hmm I'm curious about the HD5870 tho, I wonder if the display port works correctly and with sound if one uses a card from another maker.. I'm not familiar enough with mxm 3.0b standard... -
@ Villosa...honestly...i don't understand either...
@ Noth666, yea the removable platic plate is the weakest part of the M15x... would have been nice to have it made out of magnesium ...not sure why they went plasic there...Not sure whats making the noise either, as i dont experience this problem :S ... but open it up like u said and check out if everything is snug. -
nice sign Tuenkamen
As for dell, I think we can give up, they've done nothing about it so far :S -
thats what dell is praying on our inability to come together and have a solid petition against them for selling an incomplete product
lol ima miss this year -
wow looks like dell has already whipped us,lol. to be honest i've haven't experienced the throttling in any games i've played. Just wanted to see it get resolved once and for all, for the people that it does affect. but seems most have given up already, kinda sad really.
-
my point exactly its not widespread but in select cases people are having the unlucky disease of throttling
-
honestly.. since it only happens in synthetic testing for me... i dont feel the REAL need to go through all the trouble to hassle dell, and most likely get nowhere with it...especially since its reportedly only current on systems with the 260m...with 5870m's around the corner for upgrade...throttling will probably fade into a thing of the past with the revision. And thats why i honeslty think Dell isn't even bothering with it anymore... I know its wrong for them to forget about their current customers... but thats what i think they're doing.
-
ok bro, understood. just sick of people complaining all day and not doing anything about it. i haven't experience throttling also. k so this is dead. lol
-
Err
My whole gpu is going nuts.. I cant even get 20fps on COD (I'm not on stealth mode..) When I try to overclock my cpu I get this:
Any idea why? I guess I should reinstall my driver again huh? -
... but... are you on stealth mode?
