I noticed a tiny little pin head type size "hole" near the light up alienware logo on the front. It's just like the black part under the screen is missing a little bit so in the dark you can see a little dot of light at that spot. Also in the corners of the speakers when i have them yellow, a red tint shows up even though i have no red on.. the colors don't really blend well sometimes.. hmm

The color thing is because there are three LEDs

    RED
    GREEN
    BLUE

    Just like a TV

Yellow is made from Red and Green, and like on a tv if you look close enough, there are some parts more red and some more green.

    Red+Green = Yellow
    Green+Blue = Cyan
    Blue+Red = Purple

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=261929

btw this was for vista but i think it could carry over to win 7. i have alot of work this week so i can't try it out yet, no time to reformat incase something goes wrong. try at your own risk, i'm just putting it out there.

Just picked up a m15x from Dell Outlet. Refurbished.

$1,250 after taxes and 20% coupon-- how did I do?

    720qm
    gtx260m
    1080p
    6gb 1333mhz
    500gb

    black
    dvdrw
    intel wifi
    6 cell
    win7 prem
    1 yr basic warranty

Also, I'm new (and haven't checked the FAQ's yet) but what are the basic things to do specific to my m15? Disable/enable anything, update anything, buy anything extra, etc? :D

Thanks guys, any help or input is appreciated!

    Hi people
    Have couple questions here.

I'm buying new m15x from ebay(yes I'm a tightass) and it's supposed to be brand new.
Does the warranty transferable from the seller to me? As I see few sellers mentioned warranty is transferable with the new m15x.

If it does, is it international warranty or the warranty only works in that country?

I'm not sure about the warranty, but how good of a price are you getting on it? It might be worth a shot to see how good a price you can get from a Dell rep first. I not only got a student discount, but my rep took off an additional $90. The system (in my sig) originally was supposed to be $1824, but we worked it down to $1559.

To be honest, I'm a little nervous about the Alienware I just ordered. I am typing on a less than 2 year old XPS m1530 that was loaded and it is a piece of junk, absolute junk. Kind of scared to own another product by Dell but went out on a limb for the Alienware name. This XPS had the slot load drive go out the first week. Had been fixed 3 times and went out again and it was out of warranty so I was out of luck. Had to order an external drive because of it. The bluetooth module has only worked off and on since I got it and Dell could never duplicate the problem so I was forced to live with it, which means I don't use aything bluetooth. I don't have a shift key, spacebar, enter key, or alt key because they fell off and the clips to hold them on are broke. Within a month of owning it, some of the plastic molding came off and has never laid right since. My original AC adapter now doesn't work anymore, and this computer crashes, freezes, and bottlenecks like none other, and it was a $2000 laptop a year and a half ago. It has poor build quality and is just a very poor computer and at the time was the best Dell made. Please tell me my new Alienware will be a cut above the other stuff Dell sells? I am honestly excited to get it!

I think they learned a lot with the previous models..

As far as I know the All-Powerful range is developed to address these kinds of issues and is not a stock desktop replacement chassis from Clevo or someone similar.

These chassis' look well designed to me and should stand the test of time, who knows if they will in the end :)

don't be. one xps is nothing compared to an alienware and these machines have improved in quality since the m15x had its latest refresh. I have looked at how the laptop market has been for a couple years read a lot of reviews and seen that alienware has been having the best quality as of late not excluding other brand names which i will not mention as they don't have the same build quality. Im just waiting to have my new system and hopefully have a bug free system but one can dream lol. well all i can say is this is no plastic crap its magnesium shell gives you the feeling of quality right away. and when you get all i can say is enjoy if not come back to this forum and the guys in here will know what to do if you ever have a problem :D

wow great deal man! you will prob need to update your nvidia driver and update the bios. also uninstall your synaptics touchpad driver, but test it out first, if you don't like the feel then uninstall it. otherwise just get some games and enjoy. :D

i think the warranty is transferable but call dell to make sure also the original owner must pay off the laptop before the warranty can be transferred.

sweet man congrats!! you'll love it!!!

sorry with every system it will be hit and miss. but the new M15x build is excellent. and if you do find problems within the first few days, ask for a replacement, don't get it fixed. within your first month you can return it if there is something wrong. but its really a great machine.

here is a link for the service manual, all new owners should keep a copy, so you will know the ins and outs of your system. and also really handy just for references.

yea sucks waiting for it, but opening up the box for the first time is worth it. and also don't drool all over it when turning it on for the first time. and refreshing the screen every 2 minutes doesn't make it ship faster, i know i've tried, lol.

I actually own both machines at the moment and I can assure you that the build of them are 2 worlds apart. You can feel the flimsyness of the Dell whereas the build of the M15x is like a tank. I would need to stand on it to achieve some sort of flex, I think (but I won't!).

As many people on this forum have asked me the same question, why did you opt for the 240M?

Enjoy your beast once it arrives, you'll love it!

    You sound like me :)

I have a micro-Fiber cloth to wipe off the dust/fingerprints on a daily basis, and every week or so i give the case and screen a nice Windex-ing and use my canned aero-duster for the crap that gets in the keyboard/ports etc...

So far not one scratch on this baby, and it still looks as it did when i got it .

What everyone has already told you about OUTSTANDING build quality... is true...

Closest synonym to describe this BEAST on the build quality... would be TANK. And i'm sure everyone would agree with me.

Haha I remember for the first month I practically wouldn't touch this thing without glvoes on, but with all the gaming I do at my friends houses and going to class I've gotten some scratches (dunno how? probably some sexing blonde clawing at my M15x). I could care less though, I love this machine and it meant to have some battle scars!

EDIT: Any idea how much it will cost to upgrade to advanced care J? I couldn't afford it back in Nov but it's probably a good investment once I get some more coin.

Yeah was just joking, my baby is still flawless. I blow out the fans and clean it once every week, since I smoke around her all day so I have to take a little extra care. Yes the dam thing is a tank and weight like one to, hahaha.

I wet with the 240M for 2 reasons. First I get a new laptop every 2 years, so I have a certain budget I work within for my business, so my choice came down to the blu ray drive or the bigger graphics card so I went with the blu ray since this will be used as a portable player as well. 2nd was that for what I do that card will be plenty powerful. In addition to work, I also do play games, but am also a console gamer, so I tend to buy a lot of the newer games for the PS3. I honestly like to play a lot of the older stuff on PC. Diablo 1 and 2, Nox, Dust, American McGee's Alice, FEAR 1, you get the point. This card should be plenty powerful for that, as my XPS was fine for it and this is a huge step up in horsepower. The only newer stuff I am planning on getting for the PC is Diablo 3, possibly Starcraft 2, maybe Oblivian, as I loved Fallout 3 and have yet to try that and it would make a good single player game for the road away from the PS3, maybe Mass Effect 2, and maybe Tropico 3. For those this graphics card should be just fine and I don't care about having everything maxed on Ultra settings. I guess the blu ray drive just meant more. Are you happy with the performance of the card?

Welcoming myself BACK to this lounge. Its been a long journey, but my M17x-R2 was delayed which gave me buyer's remorse and I'm going out of town so it won't be here on time.

Decided to go with a refurbed system and take advantage of that 20% off. Specs below :)

Well Dell sent me a email the other day saying 8/4/10 instead of 19/4/10 and tracking at the moment it's in Tamworth Uk. So close I could drive there myself and get it :D

Aceuk: Hmm from your sig I also see you nabbed 4Gb DDR3-1333 :p.
When did you order? I ordered mine actually the 16th of March but payment cleared only 24th for some reason, dell claims "computer issues" haha.

    But when I ordered I had the choice of 3Gb 1333, or 4Gb 1067, 6Gb 1067 or 8GB 1067... So I ordered with 3Gb thinking I'll throw in the second 2Gb stick, or maybe a 4Gb myself later.

Oh also btw, I am in the netherlands, but since they are all being built in the same place it makes no sense to have different stock/options...

Did you get a delivery time also, or just at some point during the day 9-17?
