Hey guys, I have a question about the OSD icons. Whenever I use the fn+F2 combination for enabling and disabling the battery, why are there three icons? One says it's disabled, and the other two say enabled, except one shows the battery logo with color as being less than 100% charge, while the other shows it as a full battery with no color. (I have done the OSD mod) What do the different icons mean?

Good question Zswick, I've always wondered that too.
I'm a believer in the 1080p screen too. I love it. Takes getting used to though (My last laptop was 1280x800 LOL) -
i have yet to discover what the battery button does period. Forget the OSD lol... never used it once...
-
I think I figured it out! When you push the battery button (fn+F2) it tells you what the charge of your battery is. If you push it again while the OSD is still up, it disables the battery (stops it from charging if you want to save your battery life without removing it) and if you tap it again it re-enables it. It all has to be done while the OSD is still on the screen, however, and the battery that shows a charge is just showing what the charge of your battery is. It's a quick way to check it if your too lazy to look in the task bar. Hope this helps!
-
Lol cool thanks! but i always thought it was quicker to look at the lower right of the screen, instead of pressing two buttons... Lol hahaha
-
Haha yeah me too... I'll never use the combination, it just irritated me not knowing
-
think im getting confused.
i downloaded 10.6 and it says true not false so i didnt change anything is that correct.
also how do i find out if ive installed it correctly cant seem to find 10.6 anywhere? -
if you did it right you will get ccc working. and ccc will tell you what version you are using.

If you uninstall the Synaptics driver, is there a way to disable the tapping option?
I can't seem to find it with the windows driver. -
sweet guide!
hmm, i may sound noobish, but would be great if u could include a small section on a fresh install of windows (including formatting and subsequent driver installs or things to watch out for).
Thanks tho, I'm sure to use whatever guide when I get back to the states and reinstall windows. -
-
i think codec packs are fine, i'm using one for window media player. working much better then vlc, well at least for what i'm using it for.
-
and no i dont think basic windows drivers have the advanced features such s disable tapping in them.
you could also try going to synaptics web site and download their generic driver. -
two reasons i installed and not saying its worth it were
1. the quote on this thread to install it.
2. ATI 10.6 + having code for it to run HD better or something. -
Here is why I cant recommend using codec packs:
Why Codec Packs Are Bad - How-To Geek Wiki
Separate decoders are fine though -
6) DO NOT install codec packs. Instead use VLC
May I ask why is so ?? -

Hey guys just got my M15x and im loving it. Already reset the thermal paste for the CPU/GPU thanks for inaps guide!
Small question though (hope this is the right place to post). I'm trying to run the FFXIV benchmark and I get an error... Can't recall it exactly, but long story short the program closes with the error message.... I look into the issue and apparently it mentions that atixxxxx.dll is the fault. I downloaded the new drivers (they didnt need the fix since dell actually fixed it) and everything went smoothly.
Any help?
Also +1 rep for inap for his awesome tutorial!\
Update: FFXIV Benchmark not running due to ATI 10.7 drivers, rolled back to 10.6 drivers and it fixed the issues. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
FFXIV Benchmark runs fine on 10.7 drivers here, so must be something else in play.

Thanks for your time.
Could you tell me about AlienRespawn 2.0, It will come will my laptop (installed inside or they will give me a dist). What will I do when I want restore factory system. Just click F10 and step by step?
Thanks again. -

Actually I didn't find it came with any bloatware. The only programs which I removed were Dell Data Safe and McAffee.
-
5850 is one year newer than 260m. 5850 supports DX11 and SM5 while 260m is stuck with DX10 and SM4. Most importantly 5850 is 1GB GDDR 5 while 260M is 1GB GDDR 3. There are many other factors like 5850's power consumption being half of the 260m etc.. -
@Phoestre and Wattos: I got it
You guys could tell me how we can restore factory system without using Norton Ghost?

@Wattos -- love the Stealth Mode Indicator. The Enable/Disable functions completely eliminate Stealth mode issues. Added it to the Startup folder with disable function -- no more Stealth mode. +Rep when allowed.

Well, I don't remember doing anything special. Created a shortcut on the desktop, ran the program, right clicked on the Tray icon and selected StealthMode|Disable (icon green). Then, I just moved the shortcut into the Start|Startup folder. Now, at Startup, it runs and switches to Disable (icon starts red and turns green and the touch bar emblem dims). I don't even have to think about Stealth mode anymore.
