3DMark06 depends heavily on the CPU, but with the i5-430M the HD 5850 GDDR5 gets ~11.5k. In any case, I can tell you that around 7.1k Vantage GPU score is typical at stock clocks.

Yeah, when I mentioned that it was weaker or on Par i was referring to the DDR3 model.

I hope that the DDR5 model at least hits 13k for me at stock clocks. (thats based on my systems current configuration with the new card).

Vantage I scored a 6k for GPU only not including the CPU score. So it would need to beat that as it would be a better reference of what the GPU itself is capable of.

yes which i am hopeful it will kinda want to just sell my nvidia card cheap cause i don't like nivdia they talk to much and don't give enough good results i.e. renaming a gpu and clocking it higher lol

Now you can compete with all the MSI GX640 owners (like myself :D) - they're the only others around with the 5850 GDDR5.
Not much of a contest there in any CPU-intensive benchmark for the most part, though, since most people with the GX640 have the i5-430M - Vantage GPU scores are fine, though.

That shouldn't be difficult considering the M15x has much better cooling.

@new2ark: get AMD GPU tool and overclock that sucker to 700/1000 and see how well it holds up at reference 5870m speeds. If it works flawlessly, then you should just flash a 5870m bios on there and be done with it. I'd love to see how far this 5850 can OC. My guess is in the 750 mhz range on average to 800 for the golden samples.

While I wouldn't run FurMark on an overclocked GX640, the cooling holds up fine at 700MHz for those who have tested it. If we were talking around 800MHz or overvolting, then it might be a problem.

Yep, the card is in stock, they can't figure out how to ship it out because the order keeps failing and defaulting the the GTX 260M, They are working on the problem and trying to figure out how to ship it out.

Eventually they'll get it out, I just don't think it'll be this week anymore.

The 5850 is probably roughly equal to a GDDR5 HD 4870 overall.

    Bloody hell!

I am awaiting the AW M15x shipment to be delivered by 19/05/2010. Do you think its going to be worthwhile sending it back and reordering one with ati 5850 card? Is its performance/relaibility better than GTX 260?

    How unlucky can one get.

lol im going to try that later next week.

one because i going to plead with him about how my audio issues stem from my video card and that i want a different card i.e. the 5850 so we shall see next week.

two this is really a no brainer as i can now say that their 5850 does come with GDDR5

HI EVERYONE my first post. Been reading this from Melbourne - Australia since day one. Finally signed up to see the DDR5 picture.

Just wanted to say Gratz to new2ark, now BILIS and hurry up and benchmark it haha. 3dmark06 and vantage. is all I care about. Even if 3dmark06 is biast on CPU.

p.s. baby hemi I like your 5870 but the dollar conversion rate to Australia really is too much which is a shame.

p.p.s. Hi too hitokiri1, InappropriateName_3, KodiBeast, s0ysauce45, claxdog, 5150Joker, scook9, The_Moo™, fzhfzh, DR650SE (love ur m11x), Phinagle, Dell-Bill_B ( for confirming), tuenkamen and everyone else I missed for contributing to this post!

p.p.p.s Now I still have to decide on plain boring Clevo w860cu (5870) or new shiny/flashy/expensive M15x (5850 DDR5) -- stock cards only!!

    Welcome Aus8ball,

well the two your comparing is one is performance oriented and it looks like a slab of concrete and the other is the stylish but still powerful stealth bomber.

final decision is up to you.

    glad your considering the M15x

I've been following this thread since i heard the m15x will be getting a ATI HD 5850. I'm from Malaysia and i'll be ordering my m15x soon when the benchmarks are out for the ATI HD 5850.
This may be old news for u guys but i'm just gonna share that the 5850 will be GDDR5. =) at this website. Its Dell Malaysia and the ATI HD 5850 information is under Video Card.

That is some very good information you posted there. It shows clearly that the 5850 is GDDR5 whereas the 5730 is GDDR3.

Its not going to get much more conclusive than this.
