3DMark06 depends heavily on the CPU, but with the i5-430M the HD 5850 GDDR5 gets ~11.5k. In any case, I can tell you that around 7.1k Vantage GPU score is typical at stock clocks.
-
-
well thats what im saying in a way so if it finally proves itself to have GDDR5 i will start to call for prices on buying the 5850 from dell
-
I hope that the DDR5 model at least hits 13k for me at stock clocks. (thats based on my systems current configuration with the new card).
Vantage I scored a 6k for GPU only not including the CPU score. So it would need to beat that as it would be a better reference of what the GPU itself is capable of. -
yes which i am hopeful it will kinda want to just sell my nvidia card cheap cause i don't like nivdia they talk to much and don't give enough good results i.e. renaming a gpu and clocking it higher lol

awesome. best news ive gotten all week. i cant wait to order. thanks new2ark
-
Rep for you! Thats amazing.
-
wow, thats great news guy. thanks dell for not dropping the ball this time.
ok time to bench it and see what this baby can do!!!!!!!yeahhhhhh -
argyle_gargoyle Notebook Consultant
cant wait to see the benches. i wanna know what were getting compared to the 260. +1 rep and congrats for being the first person we know of withan M15x with 5850
-
also can you do me a favor, can you open up the bottom and take a picture of it, i want to see if they did anything special to the heatsink. thanks
-
Now you can compete with all the MSI GX640 owners (like myself ) - they're the only others around with the 5850 GDDR5.
Not much of a contest there in any CPU-intensive benchmark for the most part, though, since most people with the GX640 have the i5-430M - Vantage GPU scores are fine, though. -
That shouldn't be difficult considering the M15x has much better cooling.
@new2ark: get AMD GPU tool and overclock that sucker to 700/1000 and see how well it holds up at reference 5870m speeds. If it works flawlessly, then you should just flash a 5870m bios on there and be done with it. I'd love to see how far this 5850 can OC. My guess is in the 750 mhz range on average to 800 for the golden samples. -
While I wouldn't run FurMark on an overclocked GX640, the cooling holds up fine at 700MHz for those who have tested it. If we were talking around 800MHz or overvolting, then it might be a problem.
-
Can we have some picture of the actuall machine? I want to see how the heat sink look like too.
-
woohoo time to start calling up dell to get prices
-
They're going to wohoo you right into the "um, sorry sir there's a glitch in our system, here's your card now. You wanted the Nvidia GTX 260 right? No? Ok here's your 240M. Thanks for your business".
-
Any update on your card? -
So the 5850 is better than the 4870?
-
Eventually they'll get it out, I just don't think it'll be this week anymore. -
-
-
any picture yet, just curious of the heatsink.
-
did i miss something, but how do we actually know that screenshot was from the M15x?
-
Bloody hell!
I am awaiting the AW M15x shipment to be delivered by 19/05/2010. Do you think its going to be worthwhile sending it back and reordering one with ati 5850 card? Is its performance/relaibility better than GTX 260?
How unlucky can one get. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Sorry if I missed it, did anyone's M15x with the 5850 arrive yet? If not when is the ETA?
-
I will hopefully be getting mine on the 20th or the 21st. -
I am buying this system now. Thank you guys for all the information. Thanks to the dell reps that were right. I hope I get the right video card hehehe
-
That's good though we haven't get 5870CF for m17x yet
at least hear something positive from M15x. -
I'm a little behind; so we have one person who has the 5850 correct? Anyone able to contact Dell to swap the 260m for the 5850 yet or is that still ongoing?
Thanks guys. -
lol im going to try that later next week.
one because i going to plead with him about how my audio issues stem from my video card and that i want a different card i.e. the 5850 so we shall see next week.
two this is really a no brainer as i can now say that their 5850 does come with GDDR5 -
Cool. Good luck with that. I think once someone confirms that Dell will actually ship the cards then I'll get in on the action as well.
-
Still ongoing, logistics issue. It will happen though. Eventually.

HI EVERYONE my first post. Been reading this from Melbourne - Australia since day one. Finally signed up to see the DDR5 picture.
Just wanted to say Gratz to new2ark, now BILIS and hurry up and benchmark it haha. 3dmark06 and vantage. is all I care about. Even if 3dmark06 is biast on CPU.
p.s. baby hemi I like your 5870 but the dollar conversion rate to Australia really is too much which is a shame.
p.p.s. Hi too hitokiri1, InappropriateName_3, KodiBeast, s0ysauce45, claxdog, 5150Joker, scook9, The_Moo, fzhfzh, DR650SE (love ur m11x), Phinagle, Dell-Bill_B ( for confirming), tuenkamen and everyone else I missed for contributing to this post!
p.p.p.s Now I still have to decide on plain boring Clevo w860cu (5870) or new shiny/flashy/expensive M15x (5850 DDR5) -- stock cards only!! -
Welcome Aus8ball,
well the two your comparing is one is performance oriented and it looks like a slab of concrete and the other is the stylish but still powerful stealth bomber.
final decision is up to you.
glad your considering the M15x -
Thanks tuenkamen! Does anyone have any Idea when the m15x with 5850 is coming to Dell Australia? We are always 6 months behind ;(
Ipad never heard of it! I'm Australian -
better be patient, AU is always several steps behind.

-
Hai everyone!
I've been following this thread since i heard the m15x will be getting a ATI HD 5850. I'm from Malaysia and i'll be ordering my m15x soon when the benchmarks are out for the ATI HD 5850.
This may be old news for u guys but i'm just gonna share that the 5850 will be GDDR5. =) at this website. Its Dell Malaysia and the ATI HD 5850 information is under Video Card.

Its not going to get much more conclusive than this. -
Mine just shipped with the 5850. I've got Dell's little DLP projector coming too.
-
i like how the one dell employee thread says the m15x cant handle the thermal requirements of the 5870 when a bunch of people have obviously got it to work with temps that are just fine. lies lies lies
-
It funny how new2ark post his screen shot of showing the 5850 is GDDR5 and haven't post since then. No benchmark or anything. It like he vanished or disappear.
-
awww no pictures yet.....
-
-
People have installed it, not dell.
-
installing themselves
-
people are installing it themselves, like me. true thermals are fine but takes alot of work to get it there.
-
Wow. I won't touch a laptop's innards (other to replace the harddrive). Desktops I'm fine with fooling around inside.
M15x now with the 5850!
