terrible, my brand new alienware m15x's alienfx is not working, there is completely no light on my m15x, I tried everything I can but not working, it's the second day since I receive it. should I ask for a replace? If I ask for a replace, can I keep my current one until the new one arrive?

Did you install the CC from the resource disk? I don't know a whole lot about it.

See this sticky at the top of the Alienware forums.

I ordered mine with 6GB Ram and the i7 620M, I am interested in seeing how it ends up scoring compared to the 720qm. I will post a screen shot when i get a chance to test it out.

The i7-620M and i7-720QM will probably get pretty much the same CPU score, though perhaps with a slight advantage to the i7-720QM.

Here's an update with my order. The Purolator rep I talked to this evening said I may have to file a missing package claim with them.

Should I do so, or use the missing package form on the Dell site?

Man, that is the most unfortunate situation possible. Did you call dell to confirm your order was even shipped out? You do have a tracking number correct?

You what? The the drivers didn't do anything. I thought they did, but Blood still runs like crap. Crysis at 720p and high details (No AA) runs VERY slow when in gunfights. A Geforce 9800M GS ran this game better. HD videos through VLC or Media Player run slowly. F.E.A.R will go great for a little, but then run very slowly for no reason at all. I had to restart the game to get it run right.

This is sad. My one week old m15x HDD crapped out. Somehow, something happened to the boot sector. I could not even get the F8 screen or use the F10 (Alien Respawn) to fix it. I have to use the only cd I got with the system (windows 7 install) to get the system working.

Now I had to go to dell site and download all the drivers for the system but one driver is missing - the 5850 driver. Called Support and they don't even have it available. The Technician logged into my system and downloaded the 5870 driver instead.

What he told me was the Datasafe backup software from dell does have problems with the alienware systems. He mention that could have screwed the system up.

    Remove that crap people!!

It was shipped, and I did receive a tracking number. The last scan was, "On Vehicle for Delivery". This was April 20th at 1:30 PM. It was scanned in Saskatoon, which is approximately an hour and a half away from here.

All of the reps don't seem to know why it wasn't scanned again, or delivered on that same day. They put me through to a tracing specialist, and she said they will have them search the warehouse for it over the weekend, and since it's a long weekend, she would come into work tonight to see if they found it and contact me. So far, they haven't found anything. She will update me on Tuesday morning if they do find it.

As far as I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, Purolator misplacing the laptop is on them?

Edit: Also, I did email Dell about it, but still no response.

That sucks but at least it was lost while in someone else's possession and not yours.

Hopefully they manage to find it asap and you can get to benching it :p

HAHA, that happend to me when I got my new system as well. Glad it fixed your problem.

Stealth mode automatically downclocks your system to preserve battery life and power usage. Its basically useless if you ask me :D

Guys, is this normal. I got a 3D Vantage score as

    Vantage 3D Marks 3365.
    CPU 12312
    GPU 2709

Though I have not overclocked my ATI5850 or my CPU, but still the GPU score seems very less  . Am I missing something here or was I expecting too much from my system?

From what I know, stealth mode doesn't work on battery correct? And if it does, is the battery life actually improved with stealth mode on?

You can run on battery without stealth mode being on, just do not expect to get much done for very long

unfortunately the M15x lacks an IGP so really no matter what you do, battery life is somewhat poor since you have to always use the discrete GPU

Some of the processors they offer (such as the 620m that I got) have an IGP, but for some reason they chose not to wire it... O well I don't plan on using it much unplugged anyway.

Got the laptop just two days back.
I installed the recent 10.4 drivers. Played COD2, it runs fine
but it says that 1024X724 is the optimum resolution for my system
i am really confused what's wrong with this machine. Do I really need to
    overclock my GPU?

cause its dell and they hardly do much in terms of support for their computers only when it is something drastic that doesn't make their products work.

^^^ very very true. there are some people who just hang around and help people out and talk about tech, but you have to understand that people are far more likely to post a thread about a problem that they are having then to make a thread that simply says that all is going great. haha

I'm wondering. On notebookcheck, the 5850 runs at 39w while the 5870 at 60w. Wouldn't the 5850 OCed to match the 5870 be the wayy better option? Or am I missing something...

when you oc it, you raise the voltage, in doing so you also raise the power consumption

it will consume the same as an equally clocked 5870 because they are really the same GPU

    Everything runs swell. :)

Only issue is, occasionally my cursor will randomly become HUGE. Only way to fix it is to change resolution or restart my computer.

Anybody else experiencing this? A quick google search indicates it's ATI's 10.4 drivers.

Edit: I will get benchmarks in the official benchmark thread. I've been out all day.
