M15x + ATI 5870 (MOD)

Could you please tell me which are the vantage, on the 260gtx compare to this ones?

How big the gain on percentage, M15X vs R2-M15X

I have the feeling R2-M15X is very very near

I be buying soon just waiting

Still haven't made up my desition Clevo or Alienware

 

Vantage scores and such will be forthcoming within a week or so as ones get their ATi HD 5870's. As far as the difference in performance over the 260GTX, it will be substantial for sure. I don't know the highest scores with the 260, maybe someone else could chime in on this

 

If I remember correctly the 260M was 6000 Vantage GPU but that might have also been OC'ed.

yeah I think 6000 was a high OC'ed number.

Well, I don't really know the driver that I am using, a software called driver genius found this driver for me.

 

It's THIS ONE but there are newer drivers I think somewhere.

The temp was high, 80 max. Also, if I set the frequency lower, the temp will be lower, it's core400 memory300 now, temp is about 50.

 

80 max is not bad at all doing benching.

Upgrading to 5870 all the way.... But can't find any on ebay UK. I can buy it from babyhemi but worried about the customs and taxes...

 

Those are some pretty good benchmarks, would be great to hit 10K on it!

 

I bought it from babyhemi and live in London. It took only a week.....custom did not charge me because of this, or I was just lucky?

You can download 10.3 from the ATI website, I think 10.4 has a preview version. It might be worth trying the drivers from Clevo.

I tried ATI offical 10.3, 9.2, the preview 10.3, 5870 driver for G73 from asus offical site, none of them work...

 

If you go to ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/W8xxCU/VGA/ there is a VGA_64.zip file in there. See if the driver is part of that.

 

Question for the lycky ones with the 5870 - does the displayport work as it should with it?

 

Haven't tried that yet....guess it should work....

 

HERE is a recommended driver for the card, although I haven't tried it yet.

When doing the install, at what point do you get the error? Have you tried installing it when in safe mode?

 

In the installation, the pogress bar just jumped to the end within 2s, and it says this

Oh, I tried to install driver in safe mode, it said"can not load the driver", and then, just like above pics....

 

What I would like to see is if ethanh8791 tried these drivers, but he hasn't chimed in in a while.
So, you have completely removed your driver and restarted the system in safe mode and tried to install this driver by right clicking the exe and install by administrator?

I successfully installed that driver. I always get an Error but it says Success...really confusing.

It works fine. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and result is about the same so conclusion is: not much difference between most recent driver babyhemi suggests and the 10.3 available from ATI directly. And I still don't have CCC.

Note on the display port...I did notice when I was uninstalling one of the ATI driver it did note that it was uninstalling audio driver for HDMI so at this point it's speculation but I have a feeling display port should be working alright.

Sorry for my silence recently...happy to help anyone with install questions. Unfortunately I've been out of the "modding" scene for several years so benchmarks, drivers, etc...are not my strong suit.

 

So, you don't have ccc installed?

That is going to suck if I can't get ccc going.

One would think that, but they were a nightmare for me and many others to install

ATI did something wrong in the install.....it is really hell

 

yah. No CCC right now...obviously eventually it will be possible.

The only way I'm able to install drivers is by doing the manual (device manager) Update driver method and point it to right directory.

 

Some have done this with success...

First, uninstall the ATI software
Do this Control Panel...

Second, clean CCC entries from the Windows installer. Download Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, run it and remove everything that looks like it has to do with ATI/CCC.

Reboot, and Windows 7 should automatically install the Microsoft WDM driver for your ATI card. Now you can start fresh and install any version of CCC.

 

I am going to be doing mine with a fresh install because I have an SSD to put in.

Hopefully, it will go a little smoother that way...

 

Well thing is I never had any ATI card so there's no files to clean.

In packages/apps/ccc/ there are many folders. For example Graphics-Light and Graphics Full Existing...just to name a couple.

Would like to get CCC...someone in BC2 game said the bug that makes game load take so long is because you have to enable A.I. which is is in CCC....
