Don't really need gpuz to check for throttling. If you run furmark & prime with the settings from the throttle thread, you'll still notice cyclic temperature dips if it is throttling.

    as seen here. http://img24.imageshack.us/i/furmark000007.jpg/

Can you replace the 240 with a 5870?

You'll need a GTX 260M heatsink, for sure.

No point in using a larger heatsink on a weaker card, so the 240 comes with a smaller sink.

I really wouldn't try it with a 240 sink on it. With a 260 sink, the temps are pretty good, but with a 240 sink it'd probably overheat.

I didn't know they would go skimpy again on HeatSinks, Beefy Heatsinks are always good reaguardless if they''re needed or not, you want to protect your Product don't ya? :D

Maybe it would be worth upgrading my 240 to a 260 if people are unloading their 260's.

So with the Adobe release tomorrow, and the Apple refresh Tuesday ;), do you think Dell will let us join Ethan, by having a similar refresh?

I would go R2 if Dell could actually ship on time.

I would rather wait till summer, then I will re-evaluate the M17x-Rwhatever

Well, by summer it might be the M171x or something.

I don't see Dell keeping the -R2 thing going for much longer. In fact, I think that is it and the next refresh will bring a new name similar to my example above.

A one inch upgrade? If they do that they may as well give all M17x owners with warranty a free upgrade to it. Not that it would be worth it in the end anyway unless the specs were insane.

16:9 in the summer? Nah. We might see a 16:9 in the future though. Personally I much prefer 16:10 screens like the current R2.

I have never cared one way or the other re: 16:9 vs 16:10.

people get VERY heated with that debate and I could never understand it really.

I think everyone prefers 16:10 but unfortunately they are going the way of the dodo

my main reason for preference is I spend alot of time in documents and browsing, both of which greatly enjoy that extra vertical resolution

That screen protest thread is a joke.

It's the loss of vertical space that bothers me with 16:9. It is completely useless for computers IMO. They just adapted it thanks to hollywood.

Well, they most likely adopted it because the LCD fabrication facilities are all setup for cutting glass at 16:9 for HDTV's.

So it is cheaper most likely to keep it the same.

I agree with this statement. I like the extra vertical space. This is why I'm set on getting the M17x when the 5870's make an appearance. After that I'll keep that system for some time to come. Simply because I'm going to resist the change. Change bad...

Actually thats my biggest complaint about the M11x. 16:9 :(

my mother purchased a laptop recently and I checked it out for her. It had a 16:9 ratio and it drove me crazy. Everything fell distorted. If I had it as my own computer I would probably be driven literally insane. for movies its fine but for actual surfing and daily use, gaming...yeah.

    Buy this stuff.

@DR650SE The worst part about the 16:9 screen in the M11x is the fact that it could easily house a 16:10 of the same width.

I hope any of you who bought the eurocom ebay 5870's don't have problems. Their email response on DOA:

"We fully test the card to ensure that it is working before we ship. The only refund we offer is if we accidentally send the incorrect part. In the past buyers have taken a card we know is working, tried to install it into a unit and caused a fault in the part. Then they claim the part arrived DOA and want a refund.

Sorry but that is the best we can do!

    Thanks"

Looks like I lucked out by not buying from them. Yikes!
