Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST

Don't really need gpuz to check for throttling. If you run furmark & prime with the settings from the throttle thread, you'll still notice cyclic temperature dips if it is throttling.
as seen here. http://img24.imageshack.us/i/furmark000007.jpg/ -
Can you replace the 240 with a 5870?
-
-
-
Oh they have different heat sinks?
-
I really wouldn't try it with a 240 sink on it. With a 260 sink, the temps are pretty good, but with a 240 sink it'd probably overheat. -
I didn't know they would go skimpy again on HeatSinks, Beefy Heatsinks are always good reaguardless if they''re needed or not, you want to protect your Product don't ya?
-
Maybe it would be worth upgrading my 240 to a 260 if people are unloading their 260's.
-
But you will need the 260 heatsink... which they will be using
-
When do you think you will be able to post some benchmarks?
-
-
So with the Adobe release tomorrow, and the Apple refresh Tuesday , do you think Dell will let us join Ethan, by having a similar refresh?
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I have to make a decision within week ends. m15x-R2 or m17x-R2 or both?
-
Always go big! M17x-R3. Make your own once they release the BIOS for us!
-
I would go R2 if Dell could actually ship on time.
I would rather wait till summer, then I will re-evaluate the M17x-Rwhatever -
-
Well, by summer it might be the M171x or something.
I don't see Dell keeping the -R2 thing going for much longer. In fact, I think that is it and the next refresh will bring a new name similar to my example above. -

More than likely will be an M18x following the trend switching to 19:6 (sad face)
-
19:6?
16:9, maybe? -
-
16:9 in the summer? Nah. We might see a 16:9 in the future though. Personally I much prefer 16:10 screens like the current R2.
-
I have never cared one way or the other re: 16:9 vs 16:10.
people get VERY heated with that debate and I could never understand it really. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I think everyone prefers 16:10 but unfortunately they are going the way of the dodo
my main reason for preference is I spend alot of time in documents and browsing, both of which greatly enjoy that extra vertical resolution -
It isn't so much different that it is worth arguing over, IMO.
That screen protest thread is a joke. -
-
-
Well, they most likely adopted it because the LCD fabrication facilities are all setup for cutting glass at 16:9 for HDTV's.
So it is cheaper most likely to keep it the same. -
I just thought of ordering M15X with 240m which i will add-on with the 5870 later, but seems like i need the 260m heatsink eyh? sad... Should i wait for dell to have M15X comes default with the 5870 instead?man...
-
Actually thats my biggest complaint about the M11x. 16:9 -
my mother purchased a laptop recently and I checked it out for her. It had a 16:9 ratio and it drove me crazy. Everything fell distorted. If I had it as my own computer I would probably be driven literally insane. for movies its fine but for actual surfing and daily use, gaming...yeah.
-
hey guys do you think the 5870 on ebay is a good buy, i was checking it out the other day and somehow got 2 in my cart. just contacted them about it and they tell me they don't have it on record but willing to sell me one if i want it.
-
buy it Inap if your willing to do the upgrade and have the cash dooooo iiittttt.
          -
Hey do I need to buy any thermal paste or the card come ready to install?
-
maybe and no you need to make sure you have the proper heatsink
-
yea i'm using my gtx 260m heatsink like ethan did.
-
I personally would recommend using the best thermal paste possible wherever possible
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
OCZ Freeze has worked well for me and others
-
So I need to buy some thermal paste? What some good brand you recommend? Also about the driver. After I install the card does the driver update automatically or I have to download it somewhere? Thank!!
-
@DR650SE The worst part about the 16:9 screen in the M11x is the fact that it could easily house a 16:10 of the same width. -
K Thank alot! -
I hope any of you who bought the eurocom ebay 5870's don't have problems. Their email response on DOA:
"We fully test the card to ensure that it is working before we ship. The only refund we offer is if we accidentally send the incorrect part. In the past buyers have taken a card we know is working, tried to install it into a unit and caused a fault in the part. Then they claim the part arrived DOA and want a refund.
Sorry but that is the best we can do!
Thanks"
Looks like I lucked out by not buying from them. Yikes! -

Sounds like typical Eurocom... there is a reason they get horrible support reviews, Crylo has a whole thread on how bad they have been

There have been at least 2 successful installs of this card so far, at least 2. Can we get some vantage or at least some 3dmark scores?
-
Still, driver is a problem. Is there a way to overclock this card?
