45°C is reached when we are in idle and throttle at 200/300Mhz.
I also use a themal liquid pad for GPU.

The bios comes from clevo. I have juste change index of clock info to enable throttle with RBE.

the bad think is that powerplay is not supported. powerplay permits disable some functionnalities of the GPU and to gain autonomy. Throttle is not considered as a powerplay functionnality.

To have powerplay, we could use the MSI vbios with throttle but this one is not very stable and hdmi is not working.

How much is Dell charging for 5850's?

Whoops, wrong thread, but perhaps one could answer anyway.

I'm trying to run the Windows Point Index to see how my system scores. When I try to run it I get a error "Could Not Measure Video Playback Performance" it's always near the end. Any of you ever encounter this with a 5870? I never had this issue with the 260gtx.

yea wei is a crappy indicator of your hardware performance, mostly for the general public who don't know sqwat about their computer hardware, to give them a general indication of how good/bad it is.

For the computer-technology-inclined, disregard this score as it will change for no particular reason after runing it a couple of times. VERY inconsistent.

Try installing the most recent DX9/DX10 update from Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime. The DirectX versions included with some games and other programs are outdated and cause problems, including the WEI glitch you mention.

just installed my 5870 but had major driver issues. i did the config mod, however i'm still showing a "standard vga adapter" every time.

also the fans are much more active than with the 260m, i'm guessing cause it's running at full clocks all the time.

do the drivers from ati's website (10.7) mobility of course, work?

    *edit*
never mind, ty so much inap for helping me get it to work!
now i just need some new thermal paste, my AS5 is sooo old it actually seperated and is not really effective, temps are through the roof at stock so running at around 1/2 speed lol.

    @inap

How you doing bro? Been running the 5870 for 2 months thanks to your guidance and haven't got an issue to date. So far, did a benchmark which got me a >10k P Score at around 900/1100 with the only incident being a BLUE SCREEN error when I clocked it up a bit higher to 950/1150. I'm not sure if its due to heating seeing the room temp here is at best 24 celcius. You think I can clock it higher? I see JStarnino clocked it to 995/1190 which got me thinking how high have you guys been able to clock this baby?

You may need to flash the card with a higher gpu voltage if you have not already done so. Also the vbios you are using will also effect how high you can go. And last but not least, some cards will simply clock higher than others due to being better samples

well glad at least you got it working. getting the right temps may take a few tries.

nice, glad everything has been smooth, Jstar car is just a beast 995 on the core is insane. but normal range is about 950 for core. so don't worry about it and no body games at those clocks anyways.

well i confirmed it, my paste i had really expired... i guess that's what you get for keeping the same tube of tim for around 5 years.

replaced with noctura nt-h1 and now temps are SWEET.

average gaming temps are in the high 77 - 83
furmark for 10 mins got a max of 95
3dmark vantage got upto 83 on it's second runthrough.

pretty happy, btw that's all at stock voltages/clocks.

    booyah!

now to find some spare time to enjoy :(

also, i know i keep saying it, but i coudln't have done it without the help of Inap or babyhemi. awesome blokes!

I don't mean to offend anyone but I'm just curious...

What would be the difference from buying the HD5870 from Dell or a Clevo HD5870 like the one babyhemi sells?

Is it just flashing the bios?

the dell card seems to have better performance for benchers, but overall pretty similar cards. the cards have different bios, but flashing a dell bios to a clevo card would kill it.

i dont think anyone managed to find it out. I have a hunch that the graphic card wiring is at fault here, but I cannot be sure since I have never designed a graphic card. Nothing I have tried worked till now, that is why Im still bugging dell to get a 5850 ^^

for those using amd gpu clock tools to set gpu clocks, i made a small batch file and thought i'd share.

    Code:
    @echo off
if not exist "amdgpuclocktool.exe" goto end
    IF exist uclock.txt goto restore
echo now underclocking gpu, please wait
    amdgpuclocktool -eng=150 -mem=100 -i=*
echo "please do not delete" > uclock.txt
    goto End

    :restore
echo now restoring clockspeed, please wait
    amdgpuclocktool -eng=700 -mem=1000 -i=*
    del uclock.txt
    :End

use notepad and save it as acs.bat (making sure that you're not saving it as acs.bat.txt) and place it within the amdgpuclocktool directory.

basically i use this in conjunction with watto's stealth app to change my "turbo" button into a toggle switch for clocks. on the first press, it will underclock my gpu to "desktop" mode, on the second press it restores it to 700/1000 (note you can change these values to whatever you fancy)

i know it's quick and dirty, but that's all i could think of at this time of the morning.

note, if your card already toggles to lower clocks when on the desktop then you have no need for something like this. i did it because i got fed up typing in the numbers every time for the app, now i just hit my turbo (stealth) button.

Dont try this. The asus has a reverse MXM slot and therefore this will not work. You may only damage the GPU or the motherboard on the machine.

you can try contacting babyhemi (forum member) and see if he sells the Clevo ati card. I will be selling mine if dell approves giving me a free ati :D

    @xeroxide

Using the stealth button to activate your batch file (GPU underclocked) will also underclock the CPU, right? Or there's a way to prevent the CPU from downclocking when the stealth mode is activated?
(Not familiar with stealth mode b/c I only use Proc power management - 5%/100%)

Another question, anyone using stealth mode when not gaming?

yes and no. If you use the stealth mode indicator and the autoFix function, then you will not enter stealth mode once you press the button, but it may launch an application for you.

I dont think so, the laptop automatically clocks down anyway. Think of stealth mode as a limiter, so that when you are on a plane or in car you dont blow the fuses.

If i run the batch file manually it works, just not when i press the stealth mode button.

you might be running an older version of stealth mode indicator which had a "cwd" bug. Either get a newer version, or place the stealth mode indicator into the same folder as the batch file and amdclocktool

u can use watto's autofix function to ensure stealth mode is ALWAYS off regardless of how many times you press try to activate it.

to those who are having trouble getting this to work, ensure you are running it in the same folder as amdgpuclocktool.exe

in fact, i also put watto's app in that folder as well for good measure.

my startup shortcut runs as follows

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\StealthIndicator.exe" -autoFix -app "c:\program files (x86)\amd gpu clock tool\acs2.bat"

where the name of my batch file is acs2.bat

i've edited my code a little so that it now toggles between power save mode and high performance mode, so as well as underclocking the gpu, it now toggles windows power scheme as well... as it stands it toggles between balanced and high performance, if you would like it to toggle between high performance and power save, replace the word "SCHEME_BALANCED" with "SCHEME_MAX" (for max power save)

    Code:
    @echo off
if not exist "amdgpuclocktool.exe" goto end
    IF exist uclock.txt goto restore
echo now underclocking gpu, please wait
    amdgpuclocktool -eng=150 -mem=100 -i=*
    powercfg -setactive SCHEME_BALANCED
echo "this file is used so ACS can remember if your card is underclocked" > uclock.txt
    goto End

    :restore
echo now restoring clockspeed, please wait
    amdgpuclocktool -eng=700 -mem=1000 -i=*
    powercfg -setactive SCHEME_MIN
    del uclock.txt
    :End

oh and yes please make sure you're using the latest version of wattos app. it's the one i'm using anyways and it works perfectly for me ;)
i also have uac disabled and havn't checked if this works with uac... i hate the thing and will never put it on... EVER!

I can't get the stealth button to work as overclocked/underclocked feature. Do I need wattos stealth indicator to get it to work? I place the acs.bat in the amdgpuclock folder and when I press the stealth button I see the alienhead guy light up green or red but the clock stay the same?

    150/100 idle ~45
700/1000 idle... what madness is this? :p
700/1000 gaming ~ 80 (70 in WoW, really depends on the game)
    700/1000 furmark ~ 95 (after 20 mins)

i'm guessing you may have UAC enabled so my batch file doesn't have access to write in program files, i've pm'd you a new batch file, let me know if it works fine.

Hey Guys.. i asked Dell for a Intel Wi-Fi 6300-N module. But they told me, that they cant sell me this module for my M15x.

I have seen that some of you have installed this module. Where can i buy it? Is it difficult to install the WiFi module?

Will it boot from the USB stick? If so, just report back. Don't do anything else. Is this a Dell 5870 or a Clevo 5870?
