You have bricked your card :( inap and I tried almost everything to make our cards work again.

The only option we have left was to take a m17x (R1 or R2) and put the card as second card into it and put the original bios back (see one of my previous post for the bios if you don't have it). We couldn't get our hands on a m17x so we don't know if it will work.

Sorry inap, I also answered for you :p.

I now got your nickname ;), you own a m17x so you may be able to flash them... And $20,- for each is really cheap to get 2 of those cards.

I'll just wait for a solution, maybe sending the card to you so you can flash it and send it back to me?

Maybe you could cut a deal with Joker, so that he fixes you the card for some compensation?

EDIT: no idea if its actually fixable with a M17x, but apparently it should be

M17x won't post with a bricked card either. You might be able to make it work in a Clevo or MSI system.

Anything that can talk to the hardware at a lower level should work. The problem with our system is getting the system bios to recognize the card. If you bypass that then you should be in business.

So it also doesn't post as a second card? The flashing itself goes beyond the bios if i'm correct, so the card may not be detected by the bios but the flash util will still find the card, at least this is what I expected.

Do I have to enter the clock frequencies at the VBios of MSI, for the powerplay, manually? Or are these adjusted automatically?

Can i still overclock my mobility 5870 to 800/1100 with the MSI VBios without problems?

The flash program simply talks to the PCI-e bus and assumes that the card installed is the correct one I believe

So it very well may work if you can boot the system with a working card in primary and a brick in secondary

I'm having a problem with mines. I just finished putting in the card but windows reads it as a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". I tried installing the ATI drivers but it doesn't change anything. Is there something I'm missing?

This is typically what you do.

Right before you turn your computer off you uninstall the current Graphic card driver via Device Manager.
    Install the Card.
The computer will probably pick Vga as the driver.
Download the proper Ati driver from their site.
Run and install all the way through.
When its done uninstall the vga driver and restart the computer, it should pick The Ati driver you just installed.

I've tested this VBios with the following clocks:

    3D: 700/1000
    2D: 200/300

But with this VBios i got sporadic flicker. Sometimes, I got the flickers after a reboot, or when I am changed to the desktop from a game. :(

Therefore I changed back to the old BIOS again (clevo)

I had the same experience, but was mildly overclocked. I also reverted to the Clevo vbios. I don't recommend the MSI vbios, I was responding to a request for its file location. On the other hand, some have used it successfully.

I still can't get the ATI drivers to install properly, it doesn't detect my card and only downloads the Catalyst Download Manager.

    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Was this what I needed to install?

    Hi guys,
I have managed to get a second hand eurocom ati5870 for my M15X. I have tried reseating it many times and each time performed the power drain and CMOS batter removal. I keep getting the LED code flashing on the control centre panel indicating a problem with the card. I can't get the system into post at all. Does anyone have any ideas? Have i bought a duff card?
I'm starting to think I got ripped off on eBay!
    Thanks for listening,

instead of pushing the all the way back, pull it back out about .5mm and see if it would post. so do you get the blinking lights when you use your stock card?

    Hi inap
I tried different positions and still no post. But the stock GTX260 boots fine. Is it really that tricky getting the position right? I didn't have much play at all in mine as the screws that hold the card in place seem to pull it forward into the socket as you tighten them
    Cheers

Hi, as I mentioned my card was second hand from eBay. The chap originally got it from ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 5870 GPU MXM 3.0 Type B on eBay (end time 13-Aug-10 15:14:51 BST), a seller called upgradeyourlaptop, it was advertised as a card for Eurocom W870CU and W860CU Notebooks.
I am pretty sure it is the card, the LED flashing tends to point to it.
Here are some pics of the top and bottom of the card, if anyone else has bought from the original eBay seller and had success please let me know.

you should contact the seller and in worst case ebay/paypal.

On another note: Always be carefull when buying unprotected electronics on ebay. Static discharges can easily destroy a card, therefore you should only buy from trusted sources.

Thanks for all the help guys, I can only guessif it isnt a mboard issue that this card has either been damaged in removal or transport somehow, or was flashed with a bad bios. If I get any sort of refund I will definitely try again, where's the best source for a new card? should I try 'upgradeyourlaptop' directly this time?

babyhemi is the best for 5870, he has doa policy. but why not just get a dell 5850. if your not a bencher then i think thats your best option, it can easily oc to 5870 clocks and would have a dell warranty, so you won't run into problems like this.

Yea UpgradeYourlaptop is a good seller on Ebay, bought stuff from them many times without a problem.

As to get your money back, don't sweat it. It'll be mad easy to do so. I just hope you have all e-mails and messages form the transaction. Also before you file a complaint, speak with the seller and see what he can do. Take note that all messages will be investigated by ebay/paypal to decifer who's right/wrong. SO keep your messages polite, and to the point.

I got my money back 3 times from ebay with ease. Every time was because the item i received wasn't the same as was advertised. So if the card was DOA, then it shouldn't be a problem and ebay should be in your favor.

after reading the pros/cons of either (and a few rather unpleasant discussions with dell support)... i decided to order the 5870 from babyhemi. i'll miss hdmi sound out thats for sure, however just using the soundcard outputs instead is ok by me.

wish me luck boys and girls
