his post didn't have any bios, so where did you get your bios from??????
if your system won't go into the bios, then there is pretty much nothing you can do to fix it, sorry to be a downer, but i've been there. -
Heres the rom I used.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Will it boot from USB drive you used to flash with?
-
-
-
Does anyone have any idea what I've done then?

did you mod that bios yourself?
a clevo bios only have 1 set of clocks. and the msi has 4. but yours has 6 sets of clocks. -
I did what the guide said. I set 3d clocks to 700/1000 1.10v and 2d clocks to 100/150 0.9v
-
-
thats was for dell cards with powerplay the clevo card doesn't have powerplay. plus you have too many clock and voltage types in there.
sorry but your card is dead -
-
No no no. Are you sure? I want to cry right now. Yesterday I just lost every bit of data I ever had and now I've just ruined my GPU.
-
well it may not be totally dead, but you will need someone with a duo card setup to help you try to re-flash the card.
the problem is you need to be able to get to post for you to be able to reflash the card. the M15x only has one card so you really can't do nothing about it. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Guys, his vbios is identical to my original vbios in the Clevo 5870 except that the voltage was reduced (.05) in Clock Info 00 (boot) and in Clock Info 01 (plus went from 110/1000 to 110/150), nothing that should cause any problem. The other difference is on Page 1/Information, where the Video Card is shown as "Broadway" vs. "unknown" on mine. Changing that can cause problems. Almost has to be something gone awry in the flashing process.
-
So what exactly has it done to the card. Its not dead I just need to reflash it right? But that pretty much impossible on a single card computer.
-
oops thanks rev didn't catch that, was looking at the msi one. geez
yup your right rev. just doubled check. his bios looks good.
so andre, when flashing did you see any messages? -
No nothing. Some stuff came up on the command prompt but I assume it was just part of the process. There were no error messages or anything to assume it had gone wrong.
-
but he has a clevo card, so dell can't do nothing about it. geez i feel sorry for andre, cause i've been there too.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Excellent point, most esteemed colleague.
-
Do these cards not come with any warranty
-
where did you buy it from, if babyhemi then only a DOA warranty.
-
I got it from sleey0 but I'm not sure where he got it from.
-
oh he got it from babyhemi, so no warranty on the card.
-
So reflash is the only way to fix it
-
if somehow you can flash it back, then i guess it could work. but i really don't know if it possible now. maybe someone with a clevo can get it to work. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Only way I know of and reflashing a broken card is no simple proposition. Sorry.
-
If I could sell it at least for a discounted price it would be better than throwing it away.
-
And what do you know, my 240m which has been for sale for months finally sold this week.
-
yeah it sucks how things work out sometimes. sorry bro
maybe next time get the 5850 from dell. -
I don't think your card is fry. Did you flash it to 100/150. When you turn on the screen is just blank right?
-
Did something similar happen to you tran? Did you get the flashing error lights?
-
Yea it happen to me be before but it wasn't a bad flash. You know whenever we not playing game we downclocked our GPU. Will one time I had downclocked it to 100/150 and my screen go blank. I had to restart my computer to reset the clock back to stock. I didn't flash my card to that clock it was set by using AMD GPU CLOCK so a restart had fix the problem. With andrea situation if he flash it to 100/150 that mean the card will read it as 100/150 so it can't be fix with a restart. So I think he just flashed it to a wrong clock setting.
-
I am satisfied with my 5870, Thanks to inap and babyhime. But the problem is it takes half of battery life, on nvidia 260 battery life was 2.10hour now its 1.10hour
-
jeehan, are you underclocking it when not using 3d?
i use amdgputool to reduce the clocks when not gaming.
also, i undervolted to 1.05 by editing my own bios dump in rbe, down from 1.15 since i'm not overclocking and it's 100% stable for me at that voltage. reduces heat and power, so as a result, battery life goes up. -
Yea i use that when not gaming, but in AMD GPU Clock Tool saying Voltage VDDC :1.0500 V, doesnt it mean mine is set to 1.05v ?? Thank you.

I don't know about other 5870 but when mine set to 100/150 my screen will go blank. If somehow you can just flash it back to 700/1000 I think that should fix the problem. Can you boot from the usb drive so you can flash it to a different clock setting?
-
yeah i don't think he can boot up at all, he is getting the gpu error light. so the laptop can't post.
-
No it won't post. Should it boot from the USB if it's plugged in?
-
does your usb stick flash or show signs that it is working when plugged in?
i still doubt you can do anything to fix it. -
Is it ok for me to Install the 10.8 drivers when I have a 5870 in my 15?
I just installed windows and figuring out what driver. ATI site didn't have the 10.6 that I was goin to put in -
Yeah its ok to use the 10.8 driver. But you will need to modify the config folder. I'll will explain more once get back from lunch, hehe.
-
alright i'm at work so hopefully you get it cleared up for me before I get home!
-
-
taken from the owners thread, also a link to a 10.6 driver with the fix already.
NOTE: The ATI drivers require a small modification to be installed properly. This can either be done manually by doing the following steps:
a) download the driver through the ati utility
b) let the drivert extract
c) at the installation window of the driver press cancel.
d) Now, navigate to the place you have installed the driver. This is usually "C:\ATI\Support\xx-x_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc", where xx-x stands for the driver version. In the case of the driver version 10.6 that path would be: "C:\ATI\Support\10-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc".
e) Once in that folder, go to the Config folder. Inside, you will find a file called "InstallManager.cfg".
f) Right click on that file -> open with... and select notepad.
g) Locate the line where it says "WorkaroundInstall=false"
h) change this line to "WorkaroundInstall=true"
j) save the file and exit notepad. Now go to the driver installation folder (e.g. the parent folder of the current folder)
k) Run set up
For all lazy people out there, Quad provided a modified version of the 10.6 ati driver with the fix described above applied. You can grab it here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/6388616-post18.html
ALSO NOTE: It is highly recommended that you uninstall your current driver and run a tool like CCleaner + reboot before proceeding with the driver install
please rep wattos for writing this up. -
ah yeah I saw this posted before I just couldn't remember where, I guess it was right there
