I dont think that the DisplayPort Sound Issue will be fixed with a Dell Mobility 5870. I think its a general problem with the mobility 5870. Because i had a 285M GTX (Clevo) in my M15x before and the DP-Sound worked.

Now that there has been some benching for a bit, it there any census on what drivers is giving the best vantage scores?

Ran ATI TOOl scan last night for an hour and the temperature went up to 88C. Overclocked at 900/1100. None of the game I play had reach temperature that high before.

How does the 5850 GDDR5 perform as compared to 5870 GDDR5.... because i don't see a lot of difference in fps benchmarks in games according to nottebookcheck.net.....

Once people get their 5850's all will see that the 5870's have substantial better performance, especially in bench marks like vantage and 3dmark, etc. ;)

I think the performance difference will come down to how good the 5850 binned parts are. If they overclock into the 800+ territory, the difference between the 5850 & 5870 will be marginal at best in games. Synthetics there might be a few hundred points of difference in vantage, big deal.

I agree. If the 5850 handles overclocks as well as this card, then you should be able to at least overclock the card to stock 5870 clocks. I just hope dell doesnt underclock the card by default.

The 5850 will certainly be better than 260m.

The HD 5870 is ATi's flagship GPU right now. It should do EVERYTHING better than the 5850... EXCEPT for battery life, imo...

It will definitely be better than the 260M, even at stock clocks. I have a good feeling it will be an excellent overclocker as well.

Yes and the 5850 is identical to the 5870 except for the core clock being 75 mhz lower. So someone with a 5850 can overclock it right back up to 5870 speeds either through software or a bios flash. Given how well the 5870 overclocks, getting 100+ overclock out of a 5850 should be very easy. So if someone is looking for value, the price Dell charges for the 5850 is fantastic.

How much does Dell charge for an outright buying of the card (not with a system) the 5850? Is it less than $349.00? Anyone know?

Good question, you can call Dell spare parts and find out I suppose. Chris from Dell did put up the part number in another thread. Anyway, the price I was referring to was with a newly configured M15x. If someone has an outlet M15x + 240M/260M, they get referred to you ;)

Could be hitting a power limit with the OC'ing. You guys are getting some fantastic overclocking out of the M15x + 5870 though. 900 core on the 5870 with an OC'd 920xm is insanely fast. Makes me wish I had an M15x with 5850/5870 to play with.

yeah just broke 17.5k for the cpu but gpu back down to 9.2k for vantage. yeah the 5870 oc's great. that would suck if that is limiting the power.

Wow! :D 17.5k for the cpu is remarkable! Maybe with some slight adjustments, maybe trying another driver, the gpu could be upped a little...

The M17x R2 never got its CPU score that high.. while the G73 was able to do 20k cpu score.

This is easily the single GPU notebook to have though...(or a single GPU M17x ;) if you want the larger size)

I've used the standard clocks. I also tries the vantage benchmark. With the vantage i got temps like 80°-83° max. I hope they are okay.

I'm asking myself... will Dell use a new/another heatpipe for the mobility 5850?

Life kicked me in the nuts and almost everything I own worth anything is getting sold.

    The Sig. My M15x. Whatever.

I was doing good when I sold the W870 and bought the M15x.

Things have changed drastically and now I will be stuck using some POS Inspiron or Studio from Dell :(

    Oh, well.

I'll have my day once again sometime. Just got to keep my head up and stay positive.
