dttran so your havinf similar issues with yours, hopefully it just the power brick. but its no biggie since the 5870 runs so smooth with stock clocks. haha just noticed your sig, i oc'ed the wei bench too, hahahaha.

hehe yea it increase my wei to 7.4. Whever I overclocked to play GTA IV I have to use throttlesop or my fps would drop. With stock clock everthing max out except shadow set to high at 1600 x 900 I got like 37fps. When overclocked without throttlestop I got 33 fps but with throttlestop i got 43 fps. So I don't know what the problem is.

smooth as butter on dx11, yeah i did try with oc for awhile, but didn't really see the need for it since it run so smooth with stock clocks.

You're probably running against the power limitation of the laptop. I'm not sure how much the limitation is since this is limited in the BIOS and not related to the adapter. When the power limitation is exceeded the gpu/cpu will throttle. Throttlestop aviods this but it can harm your power adapter if the limitation is on 150W. You'll use more power than the adapter can provide.

Try to play on an external screen (and all the lights off) without throttlestop and you'll probably notice that the speed is increased without OC.

i suggest using a lower setting for brightness because it with hopefully stress the system less for power and in theory give constant power for the other components without the dreaded throttling.

as inap said using the lowest setting for brightness and on an external moniter should give you better fps.

i myself find that the screen is just too bright on the max and have it set below 50% and that is still bright enough for me

benching with trottlestop gave me higher GPU numbers. I dont think the ATI card throttles, as it seems it always runs at 700/1000 but the CPU might be throttling.

try logging your cpu clock and chip modulation on a file with throttlestop (throttlestop turned off) and bech to check if the cpu throttles. If you get something like this
    [IMG]

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

then your CPU is throttling... but throttlestop should be disabled

i'm still using 10.3, i think they perform alittle better than the new 10.4

    Previous Catalyst? Drivers

just download amd gpu clock tool to oc or underclock.

also if ccc don't install, download the dell version for the m17x and extract the file and use the ccc exe.

Just found a new way to install the latest ccc(ccc only).

    1. Uninstall your current ccc from control panel
    2. Download DELL 5870 mobility driver, unzip it to a folder, assume it's folder.1

    3. Download ati 10.4 mobility driver, unzip it to another folder, assume it's folder.2

    4. Go to folder.1-packages-apps-ccc, copy these files
    1.JPG
    5. Go to folder.2-packages-apps-ccc, paste these files
    6. Run setup.exe in folder.2-packages-apps-ccc, finish the installation, reboot.
    7. Right click on desktop, go to ccc, choose information center, and you should be able to see something like this.

After having the card for quite a bit now, here are the 2 issues I have not been able to resolve:

    1) Sound over DP. Couldnt get it to work with different drivers. There seems to be a wiring problem. Maybe a Dell Oem card is needed

    2) running 2 external monitors. THe 260m could supply 2 external monitors using vga + DP, but the ATI card only ever sees one monitor.

Again, maybe having a oem dell card solves these issues?

yes, the video works with the current cards. Both VGA and DP but not both at once.

What about the 5870's from the M17x? Maybe those would work with DP sound ?

I never use DP sound myself. My monitor only has HDMI and DVI but I know with HDMI it's a separate audio driver. I would assume a different driver would be needed for DP.

Probably in the 6k territory. The 5870m overclocks like crazy, 900+ on the core is insane. The 10.5k vantage score that some reached is in dual 260M territory.

For those who did the swap, have you tried doing a multi-monitor eyefinity setup via display port daisy-chaining? I might go with an Alienware over a Clevo and MSI if this is possible.

Thank hemi lol, unfortunately I believe its very hard to push more than 10k on that with a 820 i7 processor. Those with the 920 can push heaps more. I'll try do what I can :)
